Well, I was about to go shooting again this afternoon after the winter break, how convenient you summed up all of the basics for me once more.
Edit: Beginners, be sure to turn the arm that holds the bow outwards or the string will hit your arm. You'll hit your arm a few times, but pain is a quick teacher :p

Or buy yourself an arm guard, there are plenty of sizes and different styles available , and don’t buy one that is too short! They do a great job of protecting your inner arm. 👍

Excellent video on the basics. It doesn't appear that your eyes are looking at the arrow tip down at the grass (gap) when you shoot. You seem to be instinctively "aiming" the bow/arm at the target down in front of you with your body properly bent towards it.

Watching this simple guide made me realize my P.E. teacher was absolutely not qualified to teach us how to shoot a bow. Everything from the beginning to the end was flawed. She taught us to draw back from really high up. She taught us to "forcefully let go of the string to shoot" with a "you shoot by pulling your hand backwards fast" (Meanwhile NUSensei says simply to let go of the string.) The posture aswell, and she didn't tell us a single thing about the proper muscle usage and shoulder lock during the aim. After 10min of shooting entire class was tired. It was a longtime ago, so those are the only flawed instructions i remember her giving us. But dare i say NUSensei is the gift of god to us from beginners to veterans. Wanted to get back to archery, but clubs are closed right now, so i keep binge watching every single video of his and take notes ^^ Thanks for making these videos !!

My first bow is coming this week! I bought one after watching Sensei and doing my diligent research into a bow that will fit me. I feel that when this lockdown is over I will have a better understanding and more confidence in myself going into the club for the first time. Thank you so much Sensei for much needed courage. Because of where I live, I decided to get foam broad arrow tips for home practice. So say someone's cat or dog comes out of nowhere, I will not kill it. This is not the rubber broad tip that I almost bought because I thought that wouldn't be lethal, was I ever wrong! As one newbie to another, research everything you are going to get for your bow before you buy! Again Sensei, thank you for drilling this into my head. :)

My left hand (which iam holding the bow) is really hurt from the arrows, and the arrows fly out with an angle.. the arrow plumage hitting my hand and my bow. • @NUSensei

The conventional advice is to lean towards eye dominance for the most natural shooting. There's an argument for using handedness for target shooting, but most people will pick up archery faster using their stronger eye.

Hi nu. I've picked up archery about a week ago. 100 arrows a day rufley. It feels great but I do have a issue with my aim. For some reason I can't get my hight right when I do shoot with one eye closed. If I open both eyes to aim I can get way more precise. Is this very wrong to do and should I just need to learn shoot with 1 eye or is it OK to shoot with both eyes. It might be because I'm use to shooting Airsoft pistols and rifles with red dods for years and there you also keep both eyes open.

Thanks for the Vid. As always, super clear and positive explanation.
Since lockdown I've been getting more bow time and with an eye on your videos my groupings are coming down really nicely
By biggest concern is because I'm Big'n'Tall if I anchor Finger to Mouth my draw ends up 32+ inches, the bow (Black Hunter) stacks out and consistency goes out the window.
Consequently I anchor the 1st joint of my thumb in to the hollow of the cheek bone below my right eye, which brings my draw down to just over 30 inches and the bow seems happier.
Can you give any tips for us Big'n'Tall what to do about over drawing? Is what I'm doing OK or should I consider another way?
My apologies if you've addressed this in another vid.
    Many thanks. 👍

  • @Straggler8

Hello - I started to "shoot" myself, however my compund bow does not allow me to attach arrows on a string - they only way for me to shoot is by holding both arrow and string, but I'm certain it affects my aim and sometimes I even drop my arrow while letting go - are there certain accesories to thicken the string in arrow spot or I simply have a crappy arrows? (I'm very newbie yet and my budget was somwhere near 200 bucks)

Nu Sensei. Could you make a video about vane/fletch position on the shelf and stick on arrow rests? I have a bow I am shooting off the shelf, but am thinking about buying a rest. Nowhere can I find info about vane position apart from "index out for recurve". Not all my index vanes are in the same position in relation to the nock though....

Just started a day ago ..my fingers are paining a lot ..is it common ?

    • @NUSensei
      @NUSensei  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Soreness is normal. Sharp pain is not. If you're not used to doing physical work with your fingers, then it's not unusual to require time for your fingers to strengthen. Many people will also experience blisters and form callouses to toughen the skin. But if it's really bad pain, I'd be cautious of whether you may have incurred nerve damage.

If so, what beginners sight would you recommend. Also where would you suggest I purchase arrows and how do I determine length and type. My starting kit came with 31” 500 grade arrows. How did you know? I’ve already contacted my local archery club. :) Your videos have helped me quite a lot to get many of the basic concepts. I’ll use the current situation to work on my fitness level and drool over the nice recurve bows you are using. Definitely won’t get a Bear Takedown as my first bow. I’ll see what is used at my club and move on from there. Anyway keep up the great work!!
