    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
    Archer (Frank Langella) uses Alan's (Gregory Smith) computer to learn about the world.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
    Joe Dante directed this satirical action-comedy about talking tech toys accidentally juiced-up with military microchips. After the defense industry firm Globotech takes over a small toy company, Heartland Play Systems' CEO Gil Mars (Denis Leary) gives the green light to develop a new line of action figures, requesting an upgrade to more realistic figures from Heartland toy designers Larry Benson (Jay Mohr) and fumbling Irwin Wayfair (David Cross). Mars wants toys that act like the ones in TV commercials. The results are fierce fighting figures, the Commando Elite, programmed to seek out and destroy the kindly alien-like Gorgonites. In an effort to make the toys as natural as possible, Benson inserts Globotech's most powerful military computer chips. Meanwhile, in quiet Winslow Corners, Ohio, toy-store owner Stuart Abernathy (Kevin Dunn) and his 15-year-old son Alan (Gregory Smith) are stuck in a failing business, so when Heartland truckdriver Joe (Dick Miller) stops by with the Commando and Gorgonite toys, Alan is convinced they will be hot sellers, commenting, "Maybe this store will finally make a little money." With blistering blows to their blister packs, the Commandos burst out, receive orders from their leader Chip Hazard (voice of Tommy Lee Jones) and ready for an all-out assault on the Gorgonites. When the Gorgonite leader Archer (voice of Frank Langella) begins communicating with Alan, it causes the Commandos to perceive humans as another enemy, simply by their association with the "Gorgonite scum," so an attack on the Abernathy house begins. Unfortunately, the Gorgonites can offer only limited assistance, since they have been programmed to lose. The film combines animatronics, puppetry, and computer animation. The Commando Elite voices include surviving actors from Robert Aldrich's The Dirty Dozen (1967), while the Gorgonite voices reunited several This Is Spinal Tap (1983) cast members. A dedication to Phil Hartman (the voice of Phil Fimple) after the closing credits features a brief Hartman outtake.

    Archer's design, voice and demeanor has always stayed ingrained in my memory. My favorite character.
    The Score with Archer's curiosity, looking back it feels really epic and wholesome since he wants to go to his home. I thought they were gonna cut to a different scene when they showed the woods picture.

      It's one of my childhood films. Castle in the sky and treasure planet are with this in first place. Believe it or not. I always had the opening of castle in the sky in my head but didnt know where it came from until I was 18. It was my first anime I watched with my dad. I watch it now and I can see why I love the films I like.

      Me to my friend,ah Archer as my favorite small hero,because he was so Noble and Wise leader,its just sad that there werent 2 or 3 movies after this 1 film or prehaps comic seagul.Guys do you remmber those aliens from film Aliens in the Attic i personaly think those aliens should have been in Small Soldiers 3 since both Gorgonites and Aliens are small,that whould have been a good fight.

    I really enjoy the relationship between Alan and Archer. Even though Alan tends to get annoyed with Archer, for all things considered, he was still his friend. In fact from the moment he first opened him out of his box, Alan displayed a childlike curiosity towards him and seemed to like him alot better than Chip. He was even baffled at how someone like Archer could be labeled a "bad guy". It was from there, a beautiful friendship was formed. Even though Alan was a teen now and had a bit of record, he still held a bit of innocence left and knew the difference between good and evil.

    I remember as a kid back in the late 90s using Encarta '98 and after seeing 'Small Soldiers' for the first time I would type "Gorgon" in the 'Find/Search bar only to get a little article about the Greek mythological creature and the 'Mythology and Folklore Collage' feature. It wasn't until some time later that I learned that the location Archer assumes is "Gorgon" is the Merced River at Yosemite National Park in California. The photo he sees is under the 'National Parks and Preserves' title.

    The part where Archer was doing research that music sounded or kind of reminds me of Mulan.

    It's 2018 and we still don't have toys that can walk and talk like these.

    • @tokabee
      @tokabee 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      There's a good reason for that, if a fully articulate action figure was equipped with an intelligent learning A.I. as well as a military grade munitions chip who's to say it wouldn't try to find others like itself, and attempt to gain strength in numbers? Toy companies would have a hard time explaining casualties caused by their product, plus they'd have a shit ton of paperwork and lawsuits on their hands. It's for the best toys never become this intelligent regardless of how cool it would be.

      @@tokabee there's a simple solution to your problem don't put chips designed for the military inside toys
