American Song Contest has officially begun! Based on the Eurovision Song Contest. It sees all 50 U.S. states, five territories, and Washington, D.C. compete for the title of Best Original Song. The contest takes place between March 21 and May 9, 2022, and airs on NBC. The show is hosted by Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson.
As a HUGE Eurovision fan, I thought we would react to the competition, with my American husband, starting off with looking at heat 1!

She sings a short line in Korean too (난 겠지 않은 것처럼 - as if it isn’t me) because she had debuted as an idol as well and has millions of views!
One of the last lines in the chorus is also in Korean! 난 길을 잃어버린 Alice (I'm a lost Alice)
@@sktzn6829 More like, "I'm an Alice who's lost her way."
sounds more like "난 깨지 않은 것 처럼" to me
@@benjaminkeast5386 "나겠지않은것처럼" makes sense here, but that does, too.
@@SWalkerTTU 나겠지 않은 것처럼 makes no sense in Korean.
It's influenced by kpop too to be honest, she's a kpop idol!
My main complaint for the ASC is that we aren't hearing live vocals for the most part. The studio vocals are louder than the live vocals so you can barely or for some of them not at all hear the live artists. It was even more obvious in episode 2 in which a couple of them like Macey Gray got out of sync with the recorded vocals
Its a song competition, not a singing competition.
So what, nobody needs studio cuts instead of live perfomances
I reccomend watching her semi-final performance, they turned the backing track way down and you can hear her natural singing voice way better and it’s a major improvement
I just don't understand why the backing track has to be so loud, we can barely hear her sing over it... I wish they adopted the Eurovision rule about all vocals being sung completely live.
well she’s delivering an insane performance and it’s almost impossible to sing fully live while doing that on stage
@@marionicolasmartin I mean she does sing live as a kpop artist, so idk why the recorded vocals were so loud here
It was bad mixing; she sings the song live and the backing vocals weren’t supposed to be that loud
Exactly. You can see that AleXa is actually singing live and she even stopped dancing for the belt but you can *barely* hear it which is just... ugh
It felt as though she was juggling with the backing track so that she could be actually heard. That's why, I believe, she belted a note that was not in the original studio version.
I would recommend watching the semi-final performance as you can hear he live vocals better. She is a very stable singer when she performs.
Out of all of the states that have broken the rule of 6 that's in ESC, Oklahoma in my opinion did it best, followed maybe by New York or Virginia. In basically all of the other songs like, say, Indiana or the US Virgin Islands, that many people made the stage look really messy, but the dancers in this song complemented the performance and you didn't lose the performer.
One of the things that Oklahoma did that New York and Virginia didn't do though is make the dancers look distinctive. In both of the latter performances, the dancers looked kind of copy and pasted, but in this song the dancers are all different and coherent, whilst still highlighting the performer (it might be the blue hair idk but still :P)
Couldn't be more proud to be Oklahoman 😍🔥
sameeeeeee
Alexa is just amazing, love this song and she's so talented!
Noosh thanks for being a legend and keep me entertained by your reactions
I just wanted to let you know that the chime at the end is not for ASC. That has been the identification signal for NBC for decades, probably as early as the 1970s or before. The reason you hear it there is because it's an NBC show.
Ahh that makes sense xD thanks for clarifying!
@@noosh101 The NBC chimes date back to the 1930s on their radio networks (Red and Blue; Blue was later spun off into ABC). They were used for program control signaling, and marked off 15-minute blocks for station identification. They're as distinctive for Americans as the BBC's pips might be for you.
Alexa is the best female kpop solo artist thank you for watching her💙
That's the NBC jingle, not an ASC jingle
The jingle is just NBC’s jingle lol
Soo good I love Alexa wonderland I cant stop listening to it on you tube this could win for me and this is a Eurovision song
I can say I love her stage performance better than the others she definitely had that experience for it
Finally 🤌
This is so good I also watched her semi final performance and she improved so much this is so good it's so hard to sing to and to dance I love this song so much if this doesn't win America song contest I will be very surprised.
Johnny 😁😁😁😁😁
you know she from Oklahoma cause she had to be extra asf that's how we do shit outcea! lol she's Fire!
alexa is mi bias en el kpop , reaccionen a sus mv
My friend compared this to a song from Melodi Grand Prix 2021...Witch Woods by EMMY.
IMO, a fair comparison, but not completely the same. AleXa has a better voice, and the song arrangement is not at all the same.
That is not the ASC jingle at the end it is the NBC jingle and it has been around since 1927
React to Texas's performance, please! Another Eurovision material
The jingle you disliked wasn't specific to ASC, it's the NBC network's signature
Well AleXa won as the very first person to win as a K-pop idol also
ALEXA ATE!!!!!!!!!! the grumpy otter on the left didn't say much but he kinda cute i guess
Does anyone know why the original video is no longer available?
alex won and she DESERVED it
Who tf is Alex?
@@ayyydubbs2 lmao your name is the same btw🤩
The song slaps. Some live vocals would be good though.
Yeah, I don't know why some acts feel like they have to lip sync. That kinda takes away the point of the competition for me.
the audience said she was singing live but the backing vocals were very loud
she was singing live but they made the backtracking too loud.
it is live
but honestly she’s doing cirque du soleil on stage so idk how y’all want to sing fully live
Thank god they lowered the backtrack for her semifinals performance! We all know she slay sing live while performing
Please React to Mr indepedent Texas please
Is he your boyfriend or hubby? You look like soulmates. He is a cutie.
Thank you! haha he is indeed my husband :)
Not my favorite, that was Rhode Island, but she did a good job, and no surprise she qualified.
i like it but can't hear her to much noise.
Like K-pop😃
like 69 x Alexa
'New Boot Goofin' didn't get through...but i'm hoping they somehow select it as a wildcard, because it's actually really good and would fit in well with Eurovision. Wonderland sounds very fabricated and the voice doesn't sound like its live.
It was but then they made the backtrack louder in editing. People in the audience said that they could hear her.
Could you please react to Sanah and Igor Herbut - “Mamo tyś płakała” - the profit from this song will be donated to help children affected by the war in Ukraine 🇺🇦
(Please grab the english lyrics first )
Why is Alexa not singing live tho? Felt more like a halftime show, the performance was good, but I am disappointed that she was using so much playback..
she's singing under the backing track, a lot of people noticed that with her performance and a lot others the backing track was too loud which is likely the fault of whoever was handling the music and not the artists themselves
@@rxynecloud for sure, I can’t hear a single word she’s singing, only the studio version!
The audience said that she was sing live and could hear her well,,,, just when they played it on the broadcast, the layering of the backtracking was too loud :((
Wait, wait, wait... Are you trying to say that there is an actual USA equivalent to Eurovision? Like... For real?? What?? But, why? Why, USA?
because it's fun? because we like hearing new music, and our country has many genres of music and it's good to celebrate them! the songs are good quality and it's a fun time to watch 😊
Eurovision helped set this up, so if you are mad at this, maybe you should boycott Eurovision 😉
It literally sounds like Witch woods.
She should not have qualified.
I've seen enough drag race to know when someone is lip-syncing.
America needs to polish up on their format and rules.
She’s literally already very famous in South Korea since she’s a Kpop idol and also she has so much potential and just say next time you don’t think it’s good she can clearly sing
dude its a backing track that was layered on the broadcast people in the audience said they heard her singing live, they did the same thing to other artists as well
She’s singling live but the backtrack is so loud calm down 💀
She is singing live, confirmed by the audience. It’s just that the people working on her sound design made her backtrack too loud, which is entirely not her fault. If you want a better idea of her live vocals (which in my opinion are very stable for her dancing) you should look up her Tattoo live performances, especially the KBS one
