NO!!!! Peptide hormones are faster because: 1) they can be stored in vesicles until it's time to release them (steroid hormones have to be made on command) 2) the receptors for peptide hormones are on the surface of the cell so the hormone can simply scan the surface (the receptors for steroid hormones are INSIDE the cell so the hormone has to enter every single cell to look for a target cell (lipid-soluble) 3) the action of peptide hormones is very quick (signal transduction), activating pre-made proteins in the target cell (steroid hormones always have to enter the nucleus with their receptor and bind to genes and turn the genes on - then you have to wait for the gene to be transcribed and translated). Think about it.. which action is faster, epinephrine (fight or flight - when you're running away from a serial killer) or the long-term slow effects of estrogen and progesterone during the menstrual cycle?
Steroid hormones DO need a receptor.. the receptor is inside the target cell. The action of steroid hormones is to activate the expression of certain genes (this expression takes MUCH longer than activating a pre-made protein that is ready to go - as is the case with peptide hormones.). Do you have a background in biology??? I have a doctorate in genetics and biochemistry and I teach this stuff for a iving. HE IS WRONG.
Thank you. I watched 5 other videos that could not explain it this simply. Thank you sir
Amazing sir thank you so much i have read from my book and then go through your lecture amazing my 3:54 are not wasted

bro just explained 1 hour worth of lecthre in 3 minutes
Thank you from India
can any one tell me which mechanism is faster.
The second one with the steroid hormones
Yup the second one cuz its lipid soluble and doesn't need a receptor

He is WRONG. Steroid hormones absolutely DO need a receptor.. the receptor is inside the cell.

super sir
thanks alot
Thank you for simplified explanation
I just wanted mechanisms of water and lipid soluble harmone action
your explanation was not so clear with the hormones , I would say improve your details and depth of the concept
