The mysterious clay towel? This one video covers everything we'd need to know. I've noticed that clay towels (or bars) are really good at removing bug 'stains'.. the spots left when bugs are removed and have only been on the car for a short time (aka non etched spots). My helper used the towel with bug remover instead of soapy lubricant. The bug remover left the quarter of the towel pretty sticky, so like you mentioned sap remover, bug and tar remover is not compatible. Anyway thanks for the info. First, I love the clay towel. Currently I'm working with one of the most sensitive paints-Mazda Soul Red Crystal-and I'm finding that the clay towel is leaving fine scratches. I have *plenty* of lube. Any tips? I fold the towel in 1/4ths.
if your car is 2+ years old and you live in a climate that uses road salt in the winter, it's the road salt that causes orange spots to build up each year. You don't even need to iron-remove your whole car, just the side panels (mostly the lower half) and the rear panel. Whereas my dad has a 12 year old porsche that's never seen a winter and the paint still looks fantastic.
Oops I think I used the towel wrong as I folded it with only the Red sides for the paint surfaces. I used Shampoo and Iron Remover spray to the panel and towel. The paint feels smooth and improved. Is the red only side have any working benefit?
This would have been good to know before i used an adhesive remover on my paint and then used the decon towel. It's melted by towel and then it spread all of my paint leaving the spots smeared all over my paint. Towel is ruined. Can i get a free replacement?
So I have been following these tutorials and podcasts for a while now but I’m just wondering if their products and processes revolve primarily around vehicles that have been ceramic coated or do they apply to vehicles with other paint protections on them. They don’t seem to clarify this too much.
Just bought the Decon towel and Iron remover... is this combo ok to use on my ceramic coating on my car? Is there anything extra to be aware of not to damage a ceramic coating when decontaminating? many thanks
23:45 one thing Yvan didnt mention and needs awareness of is when you first start to roll the towel make sure the red edge of the towel folds over the "clay" portion so that it doesnt end up sticking at that first portion as you roll over. Fold the entire red edge over the "clay" then roll. It would suck if a small portion stuck if you over folded that part at the beginning. It also helps rolling it up small enough to fit back into the plastic container.
My decontamination towel came in a bag, not the box in the video. What else could I use to store this other than leaving it out in the open? Can I buy just the decon towel box?
Hi, my car is coated with titan hydrotx145. is it safe to clean the car with the clay towel and ironremover or quickbeads? its been coated a while back and the water behavior is changing a bit. Or is just the waterspot remover enough to "fix" it?
Not wrong or right. There are many good ways to detail. What we found works best with the DIY Detail line of products is the following. -Perform contact wash -use DIY Detail Iron Remover with Perforated Synthetic Decontamination Towel -rinse -apply DIY Detail Water Spot Remover -agitate with damp towel -rinse -dry From there either apply protection, or start polishing.
Ivan often teaches us that the legacy sponge is a great wash medium because of reduced pressure points on paint and that makes perfect sense to me. By using that logic, wouldn’t a clay sponge be better than a clay towel because of reduced pressure points?
Ok, so maybe I'm a little confused..getting a 2025 Traverse. Step one... wash the wet car with a wash mit, using the rinse less product. Step two ensure the vehicle is still wet from the rinse less product, and use the iron remover and the clay towel, one spray on the clay towel, one spray on the vehicle and decontaminate the entire car. Wash the car again with the rinse less product so the entire car is clean and wet with the rinse less product. Then using the clay towel and on spray on the clay towel and on spray on the car, of the Ceramic product, coat a wet area leave it for maybe 30 seconds and then dry it with a dry micro fiber towel... don't let the Ceramic product dry... I hope that's it for a newly delivered car, if I still don't understand.. please help . THKS Ted
Let’s simplify it. Pre-spray with rinseless and dwell Rinse Add DIY Detail Rinse Less Wash to the surface again Do contact wash Apply DIY Detail Iron Remover with Perforated Synthetic Decontamination Towel Rinse Dry using DIY Detail Ceramic Gloss as your drying aid.
When doing foaming on a dry surface, washing it off and then applying rinseless, wouldnt it be ‘bad’ since rinseless is being applied to a wet surface throwing off the product to water ratio?

We haven’t test that.
Oops I think I used the towel wrong as I folded it with only the Red sides for the paint surfaces. I used Shampoo and Iron Remover spray to the panel and towel. The paint feels smooth and improved. Is the red only side have any working benefit?
No harm done, the red side is simply a microfibre towel.
I abuse my wheels with all clean all the time and quick beads holding up pretty good.
Good
How long we have to wait before applying ceramic coating for fresh spray car?
Find out what paint was used, and get the specification sheet for that product.
This would have been good to know before i used an adhesive remover on my paint and then used the decon towel. It's melted by towel and then it spread all of my paint leaving the spots smeared all over my paint. Towel is ruined. Can i get a free replacement?
Damn this happened to me 2 weeks ago didn't know what caused it
No replacement.
@diydetailofficial what about a discount code or something for carzilla? the supplier I purchased it from...
So with this synthetic clay towel will this be safe to use on cars that have a protective film (PPF) over them?
Yes
@ legends thank you
So I have been following these tutorials and podcasts for a while now but I’m just wondering if their products and processes revolve primarily around vehicles that have been ceramic coated or do they apply to vehicles with other paint protections on them. They don’t seem to clarify this too much.
They work on all, ceramic just makes cleaning easier.
@ thank you very much. Love your TH-cam channel. I. Hooked
Just bought the Decon towel and Iron remover... is this combo ok to use on my ceramic coating on my car? Is there anything extra to be aware of not to damage a ceramic coating when decontaminating? many thanks
It’s great
23:45 one thing Yvan didnt mention and needs awareness of is when you first start to roll the towel make sure the red edge of the towel folds over the "clay" portion so that it doesnt end up sticking at that first portion as you roll over. Fold the entire red edge over the "clay" then roll. It would suck if a small portion stuck if you over folded that part at the beginning. It also helps rolling it up small enough to fit back into the plastic container.
Thank you.
My decontamination towel came in a bag, not the box in the video. What else could I use to store this other than leaving it out in the open? Can I buy just the decon towel box?
Just roll it up and keep it on a shelf
If I accidentally dropped the decon towel while doing my decon wash, can I just dunk it in my Rinseless bucket to clean it, then reuse it right away?
Yes
Can you put quick beads on matte wraps?
Yes
@@diydetailofficial thank you 🙏
Can I use PSDT with Ceramic Gloss if I have ceramics from Gyeon applied on my car?
Yes
The Facebook group is great 👍🏼 lots of good advice
Thank you.

thanks gents great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi, my car is coated with titan hydrotx145. is it safe to clean the car with the clay towel and ironremover or quickbeads? its been coated a while back and the water behavior is changing a bit. Or is just the waterspot remover enough to "fix" it?
It’s safe
@@diydetailofficial thanks, keep up the good work!
Does it remove wax off car
No
Can you wash your car only with rinseless wash v2 or better with foam
You’re choice
did i miss how to "clean" the PDT before drying and storage?
Dunk in your wash bucket
How do you store the clay towel
As described near the end of the video
Do you sell in the uk?
Yes

My understanding was to always do the chemical decontamination first before claying. Is this wrong?
Not wrong or right. There are many good ways to detail.
What we found works best with the DIY Detail line of products is the following.
-Perform contact wash
-use DIY Detail Iron Remover with Perforated Synthetic Decontamination Towel
-rinse
-apply DIY Detail Water Spot Remover
-agitate with damp towel
-rinse
-dry
From there either apply protection, or start polishing.
@@diydetailofficial thankyou
Great episode 😊
Thank you.
Ivan often teaches us that the legacy sponge is a great wash medium because of reduced pressure points on paint and that makes perfect sense to me. By using that logic, wouldn’t a clay sponge be better than a clay towel because of reduced pressure points?
In theory yes, in practice the towel folded in 4 is almost as thick and provides much more surface area to work with
@@diydetailofficial Okay that also makes sense. Thank you.
Pre-spray with rinseless and dwell
Rinse
Add DIY Detail Rinse Less Wash to the surface again
Do contact wash
Apply DIY Detail Iron Remover with Perforated Synthetic Decontamination Towel
Rinse
Dry using DIY Detail Ceramic Gloss as your drying aid.
You guys need to rename your channel to detailing university by DIY.
Thank you.
Great video 👍🏼👍🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Glad you liked it!
I was going to order this towel today until I found out it was $12 to ship for an item that weighs less then 6 oz...
Unfortunately yes
"@diydetailofficial I still love watching and learning from your content! Keep up the amazing work!" Just wish shipping was a little less.
Okay, just to be one of those over-thinkers: foam-rinse-foam, contact wash, then NO 2nd water rinse before applying your decon towel?
Correct
When doing foaming on a dry surface, washing it off and then applying rinseless, wouldnt it be ‘bad’ since rinseless is being applied to a wet surface throwing off the product to water ratio?
Not a concern
Can you clay towel a car that has PPF on it?
Yes
Hey guys! 👋
Hello
I learned the hard way not to use a tar remover with the decon towel. I have CarPro Trix Iron Remover & Tar Remover in one. Ended up leaving melted polymer material behind. Needed traditional clay to get it off 😅
Did the same with Gyeon Tar Remover. No solvent on those clay towel!
Thanks for sharing
30 minutes just to say you can use soap, iron remover, or both with the DIY towel. Goodness.
Thank you
The amount of back and forth between detailers about Clay towels, Decon towels and how little or how much damage they do is wild. No question I take both of your opinions as the truth but there is a ton of horrible information on the interwebs lol
Unfortunately some people are happy to give an opinion without ever having tried a product
@@diydetailofficial I was strongly told by multiple people I should not use the Decon towel on my coated vehicle and if I do there is no way I won't need to polish and recoat it. I'm going to air on the side of listening to you guys about it lol
Ready
Thank you.
Let's go!
Thank you.
TGIF!!!
Yes
$17 to ship 1 towel and one 16oz bottle....yikes.
Unfortunately shipping costs are out of our control
Clear coat is plastic???? Of course their product did it better 😂😊
Yes it’s plastic
Clear coat is paint without pigment. Please don’t spread more misinformation like your rinse less car wash.
