    I worked at LCY for KLM GS and had the pleasure to fly in the cockpit many times with some great pilots of VLM, Crossair and KLMuk Some great landings and a great time with the KLM GS family, How I miss them all.

    Thanx for this. When flying into LCY, would always keep an eye out for the tower block where I once lived and was thrilled to see it in this video. Brings back memories.

    Hey, thanks for 'labeling' everything! As a Yank, I see some of the landmarks in MS FLT SIM and X-Plane, but seeing them IRL, is amazing and it is nice to see the real landmarks in real scale. I have a new respect for that approach.

    Thank you for posting this. … Fascinating to see the view from the pilot's perspective. … Being a devout Anglophile, there is the added bonus that the flight landed at my favorite city. … Great to watch.

    flown to this airport in a sim without proper briefing and got caught by ap not being able to follow the ils. Thought it was a bug with nav data, but you showed that this is a real thing.

    I landed there in a Dash-8 coming from Bruxelles in the early 90's, I can't remember the year but I remember we landed in the opposite direction due to strong winds. Landing towards the Canary Wharf was astonishing.

    I land and maintain glideslope in simulators using my very favourite instrument (PAPI) .
    Hats off to the person who came up with the idea of PAPI lights.
    No crashes for me (manual landing) after understanding what the lights mean.

    Perhaps NOW I'll be able to land here using Microsoft Flight Sim 2020! I bet pilots are glad to see the new taxiway construction too. That's one heck of a hairpin maneuver, but the Dash can handle it all! Thanks for the great clean video!

  • @rvnmedic1968
    @rvnmedic1968 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Scenic but scary. Surprised how much time on the approach is over city buildings, etc. And yea, that glideslope is pretty steep! Reminds me when I was stationed at Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Saigon in the late 60s. All aircraft did combat landings with a high approach, lights turned off before going down the glideslope at night, lights turned on and a radical flareout at touchdown. This was really impressive when the civilian contract airlines (707s) did this. Passengers were briefed on this.

    Thank for the cockpit view for this technical approach.
    I have a bit of an affinity with the Dash 8, living within 5 min of EGHI, I also fly C42 around EGHI CTA / CTR from Lower Upham, (Bishops Waltham Flying Area) So encounter Dash 8 visual and Solent LARS comms quite regularly. Also flown as passenger many times, and have come to hold a deep respect for this type.
    Thanks again,
    Jules.

    If the initial explanations are way too short in time (you have to pause the video to be able to read everything), all the rest is excellent : technical as well as landmarks subtitles are very clear and easy to read, and give the essential.
    Very fews of such aviation videos make this effort to give even basic comments, so thumbs up !

    • @SalPilot
      @SalPilot  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comments nanba25, I'll take note of it ;) my initial idea tho was to create a very easy vid to watch, not making it too long to watch otherwise ppl get bored... difficult balance to achieve 😅 but thanks again!

    The runway used to be warehouses. They were knocked down and the rubble cleared and flattened. I watched the first aircraft land on the strip to see if it was possible to build an airport there. That was in the 80's, I think it was a Dash 7. I then watched as the airport grew into what it is today. Great video and thankfully no music.

      Looked more like the glider approaches I'm used to, to be fair. We're only doing 55-60knots but we're less than a mile on finals - possibly even half a mile - and we have a 20-30 degree glideslope. Looks similar to your 5.5 degree, 160 knots from the pilot's eye view.

    I fly this exact approach with FSX using the Majestic Dash 8 Q400 Pro with the FlyTampa London scenery and have all the options maxed out. It is as real of an experience you can get without flying the real thing. I always struggle with this glideslope. Speed control is the key here. Well done with the editing and callouts as you progress.
