    Kiwa Puravida is named for the Costa Rican phrase “Pura Vida”, “pure life”, used there to represent Costa Rican life and culture. Appropriate for a chill crab hanging out right off the costa!

    There's a crab of the same genus called Hoff crab.
    It got his name, because of his hairy chest, as a tribute to David Hasselhoff chest hair ahahahah

      AFAIK, "Hoff Crab" is the common name for K. tyleri: the species that got special mention for its chest hair at 4:08 ^_^

    As with all of these so far I'm like "oh yeah I've heard of those, I guess I should click anyway" but then I always every time learn something absolutely fascinating that none of the hype ever bothered to mention - farming bacteria on the fuzz??? that's so cool. I also never thought about how cold seeps are actually also solar energy- galaxy brain moment there, lol

      Ha, I learned about bacteria farming yeti crabs from the Octonauts! Seriously, that was an amazing cartoon teaching so much. Seasons 1 and 2 are my favourite.

    Wow, its crazy that the actual tectonic plates themselves move faster than this colony can move. It's like the entire species is a moss colony. It makes me think of the difference between stagnant life forms, moving life forms, groups of life, stagnant life groups, and moving life groups. Changing from relatively nonmoving species to moving speices is kind of a big change, even if the individual life forms themselves could move either way

    I just discovered the copepod Sapphirina, which is, I think, the most bizarre beast, the strangest thing being their ability to get invisible when the light angle is just right. It would be great if you could talk about it !

      @@SatanRomps They’re literally known as Sea Sapphires. They basically *are* living treasures.
      Their gem-like appearance is actually a fault in how they grow. If they grew just slightly differently, then they’d be near invisible *all the time.* However, evolution really only cares about the good enough, first and foremost.

    Unlike coal, they're not solely a "fossil fuel".
    That name is an unscientific myth.
    Cold seeps tend to be a combination of biogenetic and abiogenetic sources, as indicated by the isotopic testing and biomarkers.
    This means some would probably exist even without biogenetic sources.

    Damn it i guessed it wrong i was thinking of a Coconut crab which are still the coolest carb ever! But the yeti crab was very interesting! Glad this channel exsist! Also could you make a video about a Sri Lankan fauna?
