This is so upsetting.PUT Eastern Cape under police administration already! We are already the poorest province with high unemployment. I hate ANC useless.
Once visited Bulungula, what a beautiful and sacred place. I too wish to retire there someday. I am so saddened by these violent attacks and I hope this media coverage will put more pressure on the law enforcement to protect this beautiful community.
I am from the Eastern Cape and am so saddened by this. My mother was born in one of the villages in Ngqeleni. I cannot believe that there is now crime in these communities where everybody knows each other and have lived like a big family for years
We will never completely end the blaming game, but shared responsibility is the way forward. A leader is supposed to represent the people, not think for them. In 2024, the ANC was still blaming apartheid for their failures, while other groups blamed foreigners, and some blamed white people. It’s a never-ending cycle of pointing fingers, all the while ignoring a crucial fact: the ANC was given a country to govern, and they have brought it to ruin.
Crime affect all of us, that's why it need collective effort. If criminals want to rob you of your belongings they don't 1st look at your race....They check if you have what they want.
Thank you for highlighting this story. I lived there for three years and it was so peaceful then. Please do a follow-up story, it sounds like there are more villages affected further up the coast.
The police in that area are corrupt! Why can’t they arrest these people? They have photos! And handprints! I feel so sorry for everyone that have been attacked. All that beautiful work they are doing there.
This saddening, the entire wild coast is attractive because of its tranquility. Now these crimes will serious chase away the tourist and incopetency from police is not helping. Being from wild coast, I know the community knows the pepetrators. In the old days, local chiefs had authority to punish perpetrators because police dont prioritize rural communities. This for me is a better solution, the rural towns of Northern KZN have what is called isikhephe, crime was rooted out of the area because of these initiatives.
Very comprehensive investigative journalism-Masa , rearley disappoints show casing her skills as a professional. This was a well balance insert, both from locals perspective and the consequences of non action from SAPS. That mayor response was as elected official was - embarrassing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️reporting
Such a beautiful country, but the crime and violence is appalling, how can it get so bad?? I know i am very safe in Europe, but I cannot understand that such a rich country like SA can be so crime ridden?
This is among other reasons why my family & I packed our bags & left the Eastern Cape. Unfortunately, some people do not have the luxury to get up & leave.
I had the pleasure of staying at Bulungulu a few years ago. I had a great time there. I certainly won't go anywhere into the former Transkei again and neither will anyone in my circle of friends. A similar invasion happened to a mate of mine a few day ago. What was once a paradise getaway has become a cesspool of crime. The corrupt ANC are to blame. I will forever miss my holidays there. Sadly the local populace are those that will suffer the most.
You get what you vote for. If you vote ANC you are part of the problem. Do the right thing, get your family out of that place and invest your time and effort where you are wanted. They might catch these guys, but the next will simply take their place. The rot runs deep and wide and NOTHING will change. As a husband, dad, mother, wife it is your responsibility to take care of your family!
Future Smart Cities need to take some advice from these ''race-free'' communities! town planners must be aware that its not all about high income society.
Normal citizens on the ground are trying to be build the rainbow nation Mandela spoke about but failed to build or put resources to aid in the build. The man was named Zamukulungisa which is a very telling name, showing that we are trying to fix the past and the present but it seems the government does not care
It's a shame people like these het away with terrorizing these beautiful communities. The wild coast is indeed a sacred way of life. A beautiful place with content hearts
The lack of law enforcement enables these attacks. So this is a direct result of poor governance. Think how many communities like this one could have flourished if it weren't for the fear a violence and crime.
it is so disappointing to watch how criminal activities are slowly devouring these rural remote communities and it becomes worse as the government only allocate a large portion of budget and recourses to the urban areas, leaving these communities to fend for themselves...How are these communities supposed to defend themselves when there's too little resources allocated to them.🙁
Our Army should be in Farms and Rural areas protecting the only last remaining sanctuaries in our country, not Congo fighting for Gold and diamond Mines
They used to be there, they were known as the commandos, run by the local populace as SANDF reservists. The ANC disbanded the commandos circa 2004, a deliberate move to remove all protection from rural communities.
Simple solution...as someone who is familiar withis area. Create jobs. Infrastructure projects. Area has appaling basic infrastructure. Infrastructure jobs absorb huge amounts of the unemployed and also create a natural bulwark against crime as those benefiting, directly or indirectly, from the employment do not want crime to disrupt their newfound gains. But ke, corruption. Stalled projects. Nepotic programs. The root of the problem lies with systems of corrupt patronage. The rest is either a by-product or academic fluff.
Honestly have the urge to pack my entire armory and go stay and remotely work from here for a couple of weeks.. This community is doing a great thing to be ruined by people by such disgraceful people. Stay safe guys.
It's bad that because so many urban communities can centralize private resources to really protect their areas with private security, government and the SAPS have not been able to re-allocate more resources to rural areas. The funding is definitely there - they just need the political will and effective spending.
This often happens with 'locals', they become satisfied and complacent. Sometimes, it takes someone from outside to see the opportunities. That’s why travel is known to open the mind. Only open-minded people, or true geniuses, can recognize problems clearly without needing to leave their environment. But even then, they don’t always have it easy.
I always fear that my village in the NW will be a target of such attacks because one we have projects coming and extortinists will see the opportunity and two our cops fear these people even though they know them
Lol, WC is under DA but violent crimes are at an all time high in Cape flats, Bulgarians &. Other white east Europeans are murdering each other over drugs trades in Northern $Million worth suburbs.
The ANC and EFF will be held accountable for their evil actions! Including ALL these evil criminals and cops! Turn from your wicked ways and repent before it is too late! Jesus is the answer!
Why not start your own protection security teams to raise the alert with an emergency alarm system..forewarned is forearmed... even the young men/women can be trained to be used as eyes on the ground....stranger danger. Look at the modus operandie and plan from there. Get everyone involved!
