Like you, I also can't walk very far, not stand very long. I'm still getting used to that fact, always having been highly athletic.
Tom's journeys are so relaxing and show such care, it really is nice knowing people like him still exist.

I love the loom shuttle. Anything associated with handmade textiles is appealing to me since I knit, crochet, spin, dye, and someday will weave when I have a chance to learn how to use my garage-sale-treasure table loom.
I am a second generation wildlife rescuer. I'm fact my mom was a volunteer rehabilitator specializing in squirrels. She raised and released over 100 squirrels as I was growing up. As an adult, I've only raised one myself, but I've rescued many more creatures. ❤️

That was one of the more interesting walks I have had the pleasure to virtually be a part of. Could the bell like thing be part of an old electric lamp? I also wonder if that bird hit one of the windows, it's always nice to see people that care so much about nature.

I’m enjoying the tunnels as the construction is unusual and I find it fascinating.
The view from your window is amazing! If you haven't already shown more of your home in a vlog, I'll bet more people than just me would be interested in seeing more. Even your window casing is intriguing! Your other channel ideas are great ones! Will be on thelookout for them!

I am always amazed at the amount of workmanship goes into those walls and tunnels.The fact that they still stand after all the years of abuse from the water is testament to the people who built them.I really enjoyed this walk ,so peaceful even though there is quite a bit of movement just outside the walls.Thanks Tom looking forward to your next video.

I love your videos when you get to walk through streams on a warm sunny spring day. It’s like your in a different world when you walk these urban streams. The sounds of nature and the sounds of people above going about their daily business just passing by as you go along your own way below. You can feel the history all around you in all the stone work that surrounds the cannal

I would be collecting all of the myriad of old bricks for eclectic garden paths. And even that heavy plinth! I'm a stubborn old woman; my Dad used to say I could give any mule lessons. I'm forever dragging home bags of stones & impossibly large pieces of driftwood.
The stone walls on this wander were superb.

Another great video Tom, although I felt huge anxiety over those tunnels you showed us, they looked so claustrophobic 😱. It looks like you could have made yourself dinner with the onions, carrots etc you found. The solid copper pole was a great find. Thanks for a great video

Love that loom shuttle, and the stone walls along the river. A beautiful place to wander. The item with a line of fluorescent orange certain looks like the clay pigeon pieces I find at the beach. You did say it was glass though so I am stumped.

I know I've said it before but the abundance of old industrial towns in the North of England with associated rivers etc is something is southerners don't have. I'm jealous 😂 can I also mention the fantastic view from your window, I bet that looks fantastic when it snows. Also love the consideration for animals which is a big plus in my book.
The black piece with the orange stripe reminds me of the clay pigeons my grandpa had for us to shoot. Probably not what it is, it's just the only thing that came to my mind.

Great video Tom. Almost felt myself strolling along the river....maybe not the tunnels. We have an old church near us . It's on per lane illingworth and has some very old graves . Maybe you and rowena might add it to your investigation list . Take care....Lynn.

I love the stone work and the wild plants and fungus, which is Dryad's saddle, aka "Pheasant back" quite edible and has a smell like a cucumber. I was thinking of several ideas for the glass bottle stops, perhaps either porcelain or clay, imbed them standing up for hot pot or dish holder you set on the table? or same concept but in a single row that can be hung up to hang your pot holders on? Just a idea though the blue glass would make a wonderful light! I so wish we had ferns like that here! Your bell is a dinner bell, the style is like the Logan dinner bell that had a bracket attached to it and the ringer. Beautiful bell! Wonderful find the shuttle, perhaps glue some dried flowers in it as decoration? A lovely walk in the river...I would love to see all those secret hidden places only a few ever can. :) Thank you for sharing! Yesterday was my Birthday "54" and this to me is a calming gift to be able to watch a adventure from across the seas, it still amazes me. :)

A bit of wreath around the broken edge of the insulator turned upside down as a candle holder on a wall at Christmas would look nice. Another peaceful and interesting video Tom. Still would love a Christmas story told by you on Christmas Eve.
What an unusual selection of objects you found, I was surprised to see the loom shuttle in trhe river, I have always loved textiles and find the old looms etc so interesting. You have a wonderful view from your window.

This has inspired me to use the find a grave website to track down the grave of the man who settled my farm when it was untamed forest. Here in the US it's an old grave, probably would look brand spanking new to you haha.

The bronze was a statue perched precariously on a branch during a storm when it was struck by lightning melting it before it stuck the water.
The item you thought might be a bell, could have been a string bell. Place a ball of string underneath and feed one end through the hole. I have a smaller version, cast iron with a decoration around the edge like that one had.

mr burleigh i believe you found a hand bell! they have a hole so that the clapper can be on an eye bolt and threaded into a wooden handle. maybe the shuttle can be a canoe or hold a little diorama, perhaps showing the river or the process of cloth manufacturing that it was once a part of. those huge copper bits would be cool to keep as they are because they have mystery to them and might as well be bullion.

I just realised, when you used the word "culvert", that it must be the origin of the québecois dialect "calvette" which has the same signification. We spoke french after the conquest (still do) but our "bosses" spoke English. Most of the workers did not understand them but borrowed words they often heard. We have several of those words directly from the English language. My favorite is the name of an Island. They say that the English called it the South East Island. In french we "translated" that to l'Île Sottise. "Sottise" means idiocy in french. It still bears the name.

I worked in a blanket shell mill the summer before my senior year of college. I filled bobbins in an electronic loom. I was hit once in the back by a 'flying' bobbin shuttle. It didn't hurt. Other coworkers were not as lucky. They packed quite a punch. Getting hit by the large beater bar was much more painful.

This was a good walk.
We have birds that fly into our windows. I have a small box just for them. Put them in it for safety while they regain their bearings then in a little while they fly away.
I love to see the colored dish pieces you find. So pretty
Tom, that insulator looks very special! Odd shape and unglazed bottom which is cool! I don't have one myself anyway! I think that sign you found is a later powder coated sort that effectively "mimics" enamel ones. I'm commenting as I watch and the cast sign is likely a hydrant one, hence the "H". They are rather collectable. That bell thing looks like a hand bell that a wooden handle would bolt on to which in turn holds the clanger. That copper bar could be a solid busbar from a substation or similar and I share your love of fungus! That other rectangular block of copper is also likely a bussbar from a substation. Brilliant amount of copper or brass in them. That loom shuttle would make a great U boat or submarine 😂 I love that spigot tap, a thing of beauty in my eye!
*Edit* Apparently that particular insulator is a type seen around Yorkshire a fair bit. Still a cool find.
Thanks for all the information and suggestions Richard, (and for the edit, so I don't feel too bad about leaving the insulator (though I still fancy going back there sometime, so it wouldn't have been too difficult to grab it)). I hadn't thought of busbar as a possibility for the copper, and there is a substation fairly close to the Tesco I was walking behind. Do you find much copper (and collect it) when you're out insulator hunting?
Reading your comment, Richard, is like having a bonus video after Tom's ended. LOL I was hoping he'd hit the bell so we could hear it. ;) Bye for now.
@@tomburleigh9261 Can't say I do collect it... I do if it's bound onto an insulator though as that improves it! They used to bind the wire on so neatly and well. I wouldn't worry too much about getting that insulator as a whole one will show up at some point.

It would be neat if you put your channel info in the loom shuttle somehow and re float it and see if anyone finds it and comments. Luv your sream walk and I like to think and hope that the bird is doing alright. thnx for another nice video.
The shuttle would work well as a shelf, good for holding small objects next to the bed (maybe your girlfriend would find more value in it for this reason bc we like small dishes to hold hair clips/elastics, jewelry, chapstick, hand lotion, etc…), I can see it with brackets tailored to encircle each end or even the copper wire being used (maybe 1 long piece that wraps around the ends and is hung from one point in the middle, like a wire picture hanger), it would also be of use next to the closet or dresser for holding jewelry or other accessories and even look nice with simple copper brackets, flat as a table/counter display piece to hold small larking finds like colored glass or pipes etc... or used like a candle holder, as the stand for a two sided picture frame or just the hanger for a print/photo where the wooden part is hung and the frame is simply perched on it and leaning against the wall, or it could be hung next to the door as a catch all shelf/tray, u could screw in some hooks or make some out of copper wire for keys and small jackets or just use it to hold keys, mail and the like. I would kind of love to see it used for sewing or knitting again, either with indentations drilled in to hold thread bobbins or somehow upcycled to be a sewing kit, maybe repurposed like that it would make a nice gift for Mother’s Day or a bday for a gma that knits and can hold her needles in it. I like it, obviously haha
