    Jeremy, your videos are great (and this one is really helpful - so much wisdom in it!) but you need to address the low volume issue. Going from any podcasts, news or any TH-cam videos to your channel is always a big volume adjustment. Even at the maximum volume I can barely hear you on my AirPods

      it's a bit strange to me because the piano is audibly clipping - seems like maybe an issue with the mic setup?

    Great guidance--as always! Esp resonant for me:
    #1: @4:00 Ranked List of goals (#1 next for me is voicings: 1-hand: 2,3,4 notes & 2-hand 4,5,6 notes); for maj & min 2-5-1s.
    #2: @7:00 Community & Deadlines (and on that note, can't say enough great things about Jeremy's virtual Fullerton College course--check it out--put me on a great (and Misterioso) jazz path). And thanks for the cool version of Monk's Dream!

    This wasn't my question. I've known this and have commented a few times about it. But I have a specific question that I would love a tutorial on, and have never seen any. Whenever I listen to good jazz musicians I notice that their ACCENTED NOTES define their sound and make them sound much better than I, even when I play the same notes at the same speed. I do accents as I feel them, so to speak, but would appreciate instruction from someone like yourself, who is not only light years ahead of me but also has a keen analytical mind. Thank you.

    misterioso! thanks so much for sharing your wisdom! after getting a new instrument i have been so excited to start practicing again using your books! this topic is extremely relevant and i have decided to forego serious focus on anything other than what's in your jazz piano fundamental books for the first year. so far it's been really interesting to see where my knowledge and technical gaps are, and i want to be able to drill those thoroughly - it's not useful for me to get distracted trying to practice whatever new licks are in my feed this week. can't express how thankful i am that you've put this method together!! 🙏

    Jeremy, great suggestions and video. Some comments: 1. "Community" is perhaps the most important. All the online instruction won't work if a pianist cannot play in real timte with others on a regular basis -- ideally others that are better than you. Teachers on TH-cam give all the chords, scales, etc. Few mention the importance of playing with a small group. 2. Following your McCoy Tyner pentatonics video, this week I'm into pentatonic scales and patterns. But let's face it, pentatonics only work if they are played very fast. To do that one must start off slow so as to get things in all keys in your fingers. I'm finding that is rough. 3. Please do not take offense but you need to improve the audio of your spoken word in your videos. Too much reverb so that it's muddy and not clear. However, your piano sounds great. 4. While your rendition of Monk at the close of this video is done without a rhythm section, you are able to incorporate a momentum and feel as if you had a rhythm section. How does one practice for this? End of comments and thanks.

  • @vickivolper367
    @vickivolper367 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Jeremy, there is something wrong with the audio and video for a while now. The piano sound has a vibratory buzzing after each key is struck, and the video image of the entire keyboard "shakes" which creates a feeling of nausea in the viewer. These are new problems of the past few months and are not present in older videos. What's up?

    • @JeremySiskind
      @JeremySiskind  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! I'll watch some of the videos to see what's up. The video shouldn't be shaking...I'm not sure what's going on there. No earthquakes in California recently. 😂 Maybe it's something about the new location since I've moved. I'll look into it and see if I can make it better.

    • @PlayBetterJazz
      @PlayBetterJazz ปีที่แล้ว

      The "buzzing" is coming from the pre-amp level of the microphone being turned up too much, or the microphone is too close to the audio source (the piano), with the incoming audio signal peaking (producing too much signal for the mic to handle within it's pre-amp), which causes distortion of the signal when played at loud volumes. Personally I don't mind and I never see any shaking of the overhead view. Perhaps it's his fast playing and moving his hands fast that is making you dizzy. Plus, this is amazing FREE content, can't complain too much. I'm willing to bet Jeremy is already well aware and is doing the best he can with what he has.

    It would actually be better if the people who don't watch your videos unsubscribe. The current youtube algorithm penalizes channels when the subscribers don't watch the videos.
    I personally watch your videos to see how you practice/play, not to copy everything you do.
