- Bastard (Bastarden, 2023) is a movie that depicts the challenges of survival and people on the fringes of society. Set in a remote island community, the story follows the experiences of a young man. This protagonist is born into a complex family background where his father is a powerful man on the island and he himself is considered an illegitimate child and thus suffers social ostracism and contempt.
The film shows how he finds his place in this marginalized environment and how he confronts the complexity of his relationship with his father. Through a series of challenges and conflicts, he begins to explore his self-identity and sense of belonging, attempting to transcend the label of his “bastard” identity and find personal dignity and strength. The movie is not only a story of personal growth, but also a profound reflection on social prejudice and the complexity of human nature.
The water was'nt just hot - it was boiling. Between 1733- 1800 Denmark had a law called Stavnsbåndet as a consequence of an agricultural cricis. That meant that young men were forced to remain in the area they where born, work the land and serve as a soldier. The lord of manor had absolute right over your life and could punish you at he saw fit. ( The film is based on the book " The Captain and Ann Barbara" by Ida Jessen)

So, they were a serf like all the peasants in Europe. Central Europe stopped this practice finally with the series of revolutions in 1848. In Russia it was alive until 1905.

I am such a fan of Mads Mikkelesn. Very role is a masterpiece.
I just watched this movie and absolutely liked it! I highly recommend it if you are interested in the story of a man who didn't bow down to his misery, misfortune, and destiny.
He also didn't throw the towel in the silent battle against the nobles.
He showed his mettle, his character, and his will to march on.
So, don't be a pushover. Take a stand for yourself today and watch this movie while you can.
What are you talking about? He suffered and sacrificed his loved ones and happiness for a bad goal in a corrupt system and then at the end realized his farm was not all that so he abandoned it.
@@yucol5661 maybe it's a difference of prespective. But thanks for sharing yours as well. 🐈
Any movie with Mads Mikkelesen is a must watch. Always good
The dialog:
Her: keep the house? My husband is dead and you’re afraid that the floor isn’t swept or if everything doesn’t stand exactly as it used to?!
Him: I can pay you
Her:with what you don’t have any money left
Him: when the king hears…
Her: stop talking about the king as if you know him you have never met him and never will. He doesn’t even know you exist.

There not immigrants there settlers.
What's the difference ?
@@mrsupremegascon well one group are Danish just moving to another part of Denmark the other is totally foreign by definition.
An immigrant goes someplace where there already is something. A settler goes to someplace with the goal of building that something from scratch.
This makes no sense.
Why sending someone to work on land that's already claimed by another lord?

great actor but boring movie , you will fell asleep or play your phone during the watch . thats a pity to use his talent in this way .
It's a drama movie, it's supposed to be like this.
It's so painful to watch how European civilization was involved in slave trading .... What a waste ...
And they're proud of that
If you are pained by slavery, know this as fact: There are more people in slavery in 2024 than there ever were in the dark ages, with all the savagery and brutality unabated.
@@Kumar-fg1cj Who told you this nonsense? European peasants were slaves to their lords (serfdom) and handled as farm equipment up until 1848. So, you are blaming the victims (90% of the population). Talk to the Elit if you have a beef with it.
African leaders started it then the Arabs got in as merchants working closely with Jews and Europeans. I guess, the indian Elit also practised it within their small kingdoms, just like South Korea with its own population. Show me a country where it didn't happen.
What you are talking about where serfs, not slaves, serfdom was anolished in meny countries way before 1848.
