    5 seconds of continued stationary wheel spin is natures way of saying you are about to break something...
    I quote: "Unlike some of its competitors in this segment, the MU-X doesn't feature a rear differential lock. Isuzu says that its inbuilt traction control systems manage wheel-slip effectively enough..."
    Izuzu - I beg to differ :-)
    Awesome attitude from your old man though. Pragmatic and seeing the positives of the learning experience. Kudos to him.

      Glad you enjoyed mate. Yep he held it a little bit too long. And haven't seen much of the traction control system coming into play in the videos haha, doesn't seem to do much at all

    Mate! I've just got to say, that was one of the best 4WD videos I've ever watched! The way you both kept your cool, and just kept plugging your way back up those hills was a breath of fresh air to me. A lot of blokes would have spat the dummy, and or, gone to get someone to get them out of trouble, but your attitude and resolve was enough. I'm 60, and only just starting out 4wding, and like you dad, can accept the fact that I'll probably scratch, scrape, bend and break a few things along the way. But the rewards are worth it. My first trip was just up to Mt Allyn lookout with a short look down a side track which was fun, but as it got rougher I turned back for saftey reasons (only one vehicle), but it gave me a taste for more. Excellent editeding on the video, particularly the voice overs giving an explanation of what or why you did certain things. Another thing that your video has confirmed for me, is that my desire for a winch is well justified. Keep up the great videos mate, and thankyou.

    Agree with your appraisal of the situation. Dad pushed too hard for too long and that was it..
    Really well done getting out. Goes to show why it's important to have the right gear.

    Hey Tyler,
    After my son & I watched your video we decided to give Bullridge a go ourselves yesterday (bottom to top). Now that we've done it & re-watched your video I now realise how luck we were to get through. The track looks like it's gotten even worse from when you were there and there was more than one section where we struggled to stand or walk!
    Anyway we had a ball and that's the main thing, we were glad to see the end of the trail however.
    Cheers & keep up the good work.

    • @TylerThompson90
      @TylerThompson90  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate, thats awesome you did it! Yeah it always hard to fully know what the track is actually like just from a video, can be worse or easier once you get there. Definitely some steep and loose sections on the track. Cheers!

    We did this exact same track down the slopes... crossed the river into "private property" and continued to the main road. We even spoke to the farmer, which only laughed at us... saying the hills was "hectic" ...
    Respect for trying the climb back up that silly hill, but was not necessary.

    • @TylerThompson90
      @TylerThompson90  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the track conditions had got worse since I was there last. We did consider heading back down to the private proper to get out but then we thought if the gate was locked or we couldn't get through we would be completely screwed haha

    Air Been to Barrington many time and I can’t describe how much I love it. Next time you go you should defiantly spend a night a horse swamp camp site. If you go for a walk over a creek/river you will come across a beautiful waterfall. And if you take the drone up you will find a creek ( that is if it’s not dried up )
    BTW I recently found your TH-cam channel and I have loved.

    Sometimes in situations like you faced with your Dad, you have to do what it takes to get you all out safely. I had a similar situation with one of our five vehicles blowing a CV joint and we had to contend with rain coming in and making the clay tracks so slippery and some seriously steep and off camber sections and deep ruts. We had to do multiple vehicle snatch/tows with up to four snatch straps connected to get him out and a bit of winching (but not as much as you guys had). It certainly was physically and mentally taxing and took several hours before we got him back to camp. Two of our TD42 Patrols had twin lockers (one of which was mine) and we still struggled for traction in the slippery clay. They are useful items but they aren't the be and end all when track condition dictate otherwise. Really enjoy your vids Tyler. Keep up the good work 👍

Would love see you & your Dad in remote areas where U are loaded up to the gunnels with supples & water for 2 weeks & have to tough it out. Sadly, in most of remote Oz there are no winch points, U just rely on driving skill. Best to have a HF radio, sat phone or Eperb so that U can be sure your group will survive if it all goes pear shaped. Keep up the good work

    Some of your videos are a good source of inspiration for me to head off road, this one not so much..

    Yip he spun the wheels just that bit to much thats a bummer. Really surprised it was the diff and not the cv

    • @TylerThompson90
      @TylerThompson90  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep you would think the cv would let go long before the diff. I feel like there might have been some sort of weakness in the diff but not sure

    How would max tracks go on those loose rocky sections? ( just to start and get momentum)

    • @TylerThompson90
      @TylerThompson90  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not that great in my experience, they make minimal difference on steep rocky hills, the tyres just spit them straight back out

      Ok good to know. I run a Colorado 7 with basic 2inch lift and at’s. I better be easy on that front diff if hill climbing.

    If ya going to do the harder stuff consider a GQ Gu patrol or 80 series cruiser with lockers there about all there is with tough drive trains other than that drive accordingly some of the modern vehicles with good traction control will surprise you where they will go.

      Yep maybe on the next 4wd mate. These ones get us most places for the mean time, we try to keep to the more moderate tracks but unfortunately you can't always know the exact condition of tracks ahead

    Another great video Tyler. You really do take some great footage and have some very talented film skills. Pretty impressive you kept the camera rolling all through that, really gave a great impression of the experience. Nice to see it in everyman's terms, no flashiness, except for the camera skills. Be interested to hear the costs of repairs etc. Also did your dad throw a front locker in to replace the diff? Looking forward to more of your stuff. Cheers PP

      Thanks mate, appreciate it! Im slowly getting better with the filming and editing the more I do :). Nope he didn't put a locker in, I'll have to check with him the cost but think it was in the $3000 price range including labour

      Thanks for the reply. Yeah, well if you play enough sooner or later something is bound to break, nice to see your dad take it in his stride. It would be interesting to see some footage of some of the breaks etc. you get. Would be nice to see you review your veh. and gear and give some opinions about it. I asked about the locker as it sounds like an elocker might be cheaper than a standard rebuild. Did you say it ended up with a hole in it? I liked that you were honest enough to put a trip in where not everything worked. The footage takes you there, dust and rocks etc. I really enjoy your stuff more than the hyped commercial ones, more relaxed and feels more like stuff we can do without killing cars. You have a really artistic streak with your filming. Great stuff. Always look forward to your new videos. G.@@TylerThompson90

      Yep I'll try and do some review videos etc over the christmas holidays on my gear plus im going to do a video on my 4wd. Yep the whole thing had a huge crack through it plus it literally blew a hole in the side of it and gears were hanging out, it was unrepairable haha. They replaced it under warranty which was really good so he didnt have to cover the costs, very lucky. Thanks for the feedback mate, we got a couple of big trips planned in January so plenty more videos to come :)
