  • In this episode of Cabin in the Woods, we wrap up with the standing seam metal roof installation....for now. We will still have to install panels around the chimney as well as finalize the ridge cap and porch standing seam metal roof. Stay tuned for the metal roof detail work which will be in a little bit.
In this episode we also frame out a walk door and I show you our detail that keeps the jamb solid, even when it is installed in the middle of a bay away from a column. Really love the Stabila LAX 300G laser for plumbing your framing. They never lie. Check it out here if interested. It is an affiliate link which supports the channel and I thank you for it.

We finally wrap up installing the Standing Seam panels on the main section of roof. Make sure if you haven't caught up on the entire series, go back and watch or share with a friend who might enjoy it. Thanks for the support and stay tuned as this project will continue to get better. We have lots in store.

Every time I watch one of your videos, I wish that I lived close to you guys. I'd be at your job sites every day begging to get hired on. Not only do you seem like a good boss, but you embrace technology and always looking at new ideas in building. I used to work for a boss that refused to buy us a dremel tool to grind the paint off installations we were doing. You guys always seem like you are having fun, yet you have such a keen eye for perfection, all while making videos. Great job.

I've been metal roofing for about 5 years now but been doing sheet metal and rain gutter for 10 years. I'm very picky when it comes to my metal roofing and I wanna so you are by far one of the best metal roofers if not the best metal I've ever seen. Great work bro. I'd love to pick your brain about metal roofing. In California we do alot of metal roofs on custom homes and I'm running 4 metal roofs rt now as we speak and I'd love some of your insight on a few detail on running hip caps into a Dutch gable with top flashing.

Heavy yes practical absolutely. Wish I could get a newer one but not worth importing to South Africa.

Since it gets so hot and humid here in the south, to help cool down. I run water from a faucet on my wrist, alternating from one to another. Cold water from cooler works, or out of water bottles at end of day. This helps by cooling blood that circulates through the heart.

You need to check out "Cool Ties" to beat the heat. I live just outside of Phoenix and it was 111 today and I was outside for 4 hours and never broke a sweat. I order them from a construction safety supply company and they work very well. They cost $26.00 for 24 of them so a cheap fix. Simply put them in a plastic bowl filled with water and keep it in a refridgerator. Just immerse the cool tie in the water and the crystals inside it swell up. I wear 2 of them; One as a headband and another one around my neck. The neck one cools the blood in the neck and the headband one cools the bllod at your temples. Try them if you have not and beat the heat!.
I have one of those levels that does plump, level and square, a invaluable tool to have.

Really enjoying this series Kyle! It's inspired me to re-roof my detached garage with a standing seam metal roof. Any chance you might be able to put together a video on your ordering process for a standing seam metal roof? Maybe something along the lines of how to calculate the square footage of the roof (math never lies), layout, necessary components (i.e. panels, trim details, etc.) and any additional lessons learned that you think would help first timers like me successfully tackle a project. Thanks in advance for your consideration and I look forward to your next video in the series!

You should be running your panels up the valley not down the valley if you live in snow country. Snow and ice over time will get underneath the snap of that kind of snap lock panel and will lift it up and potentially unsnap it.
