Here is my .02 for ya. This is coming from a converted quad to sxs guy who still keeps his street cred with the atc 250r in the fleet.😎. It ain’t hack unless you did the hacking. Fixing someone else’s hack and making it look good is art. You got a lot of art work on this thing. Lol. The good thing about a machine like this is it’s now solid, but you ain’t gonna cry when you inevitably scatch it up or whatever. Just ride the shit out of it and enjoy. The Infrared belt temp sensors are the only way. My Polaris runs in the 170’s under normal riding. Once I get over 200 I start paying attention. I would say 220 you are getting in trouble. If you ever replace the windshield get the hard coat/ mr-10 lexan. The non hard coat will scatch before it’s even installed. It costs, but it’s well worth it.

Words don't do justice for the effort you pulled on this.
This video is a year old and no one will probably read this, but I race GNCC and our plastics get annihilated. There's something called a "plastic welder". A lot of people say they don't hold up, but there's a learning curve to get the technique right and since I've gotten it down, I haven't had any failures. Anyway I thought it might help someone restore plastics or bring an old quad back to life.

Also, maybe consider rubber plugs for the angled holes behind the windshield? Or you could score and/or heat up and bend a plastic plug for them

i've used epoxy & also bondo fiberglass repair kit to make plastics look pretty good & to make them sturdy again. Up close they aren't beautiful, but the low cost and rigidity as well as matching up the paint will make it look better than hack method like decals. No worries though, it's an atv, not an art piece
There’s a difference between just throwing zip ties on and placing them nicely and evenly to make a project look so much better. LOL. Great video!

Good job! ..some advice on when you shine those plastics....don’t use anything that has petroleum in it bc it will fade the black plastics. The older Can Am plastics (2012-2015 at least) faded with petroleum products like sc1....the best back to showroom shine that I’ve found is 303 aerospace protectant. I use it on 2015 outlander xmr....also make sure you “break in” the cvt belt before hammering on it too much. ..regardless good job on this build.

I usually praise ya but I’m gonna change it up this time lol Probably regret putting locktite on that bolt, that thread insert will start turning, and I feel the electrical grease was enough on the sensor wire, if out in the field the shrink will have to be cut, to replace a belt, that’s a wire or group of wires that don’t need to be nicked.. older Detroit engines had a similar set up on oil pans and valve covers, the bolts are made to bottom out, when the gaskets leak you have to replace the rubbers on the bolts as well as the gasket to get it as tight as should be. I appreciate the info man and these are good points. At this point what's done is done; hopefully the bolt does not spin the nutsert and when it comes time to unplug that connector I can cut it without damaging the wire.
That sec plug if u put it in the oven at 275 degrees u can carefully push the plug into the hole that has that big angle.

I bought a 13 maverick last year. The sketchiest thing about it was the body roll around turns. it seemed like it was going to roll on flat ground. I had shock therapy rebuild and re valve them. Night and day different. less body roll and way more control. plus better ride in small choppy stuff. Just FYI

Super common issue with the belt housing cover bolt. Comes from taking it on and off with a impact. If it gets to the point you can’t retap just use a bolt long enough to go through and put a nut on the back.

That's called a shoulder bolt and the rubber "washer thing" is a grommet on the cover. The shoulder bolt limits how much compression you can put on the gasket so that it seals correctly and the grommets are for NVH reduction.

@@MichaelSabo no problem. Glad to see you put loctite on it or it would have backed out form the grommet and gasket taking a set. The shoulder bolt retains all of your bolt torque when it bottoms out on the mating surface.
While I'm still waiting on the next Raptor 660 video I got bored and started watching the Can-Am project, after seeing the holes at 9:35, that's project Swiss Cheese LOL but damn good work on this 5 grand goat cart (however the hell its spelled LOL)
Put small air scoops over the holes in the hood. It'll look better and be functional.

Wanted to say good work granted there was options for the odd and end damages but bottom line it’s a well used sxs to put it lightly and I know most if looking at used the idea is to put the money where it matters and do what you can with the rest and though there was a couple things I may have even done a little different as far as the some of the plastic parts simple fact is you took what was well on its way to a scrap yard and turned it back into something you don’t consider covering up on your trailer to keep anybody from actually seeing what you are hauling lol so again fine work

Awesome videos dude. Just got a RZR 800 in trade for putting a Raptor 700 engine back together from a giant bucket of parts. Your videos on that Raptor engine helped me so much. I am now in the process of Un-Hacking this RZR. I find it so interesting that people will spend a ton of money on these things and just F#CK them up. You should buy some flush cut pliers for the zip ties! Cuts the tails down to the cinch block so you don't accidentally snag clothes or skin on them. I've personally gotten some pretty gnarly scratches from the tails that weren't cut flush. I'm an electrician, and we use zip ties a lot to hold our wires in place, every sparky I know has a pair of flush cut pliers because they all know how shitty it is to reach into a cabinet and snag your arm on a fuckin zip tie lol.
Great call man! I've had a few snags myself lol. The only thing is; I've had zip ties skip/break a notch and pop off; I usually try to leave one or 2 notches just in case that happens.

Can you calibrate the sensor? When you first turned it on and it said 95 degrees. Was the temp outside about 95?
I just assume the belt would be ambient temp, as would the reading before you start it.
I had fired it up previously and let it idle to make sure all of the wiring was good; I should have clarified that.

Well I have to be one to ask, because I am not what you would call a smart man :O. I just got my hands on a 2013 Mav 1000, the cab gets hotttttt, to the point its not enjoyable when riding. I am sure the exhaust needs to be wrapped, I am not home to look, but I am 100% that's not completed. Anything else you'd recommend? Or something I maybe missing? I was thinking to Thermo Cool the plastics.......I am just afraid the heat will cause too many pre mature belt breaks and burnt legs! Any words of wisdom would be great!

What’s the plan with the can am? You gonna try to sell or are you wanting to hang on to it? Looks like it will be hella fun! What a total bummer it’s not riding properly. Was the steering twitchy or hairy enough to question the front end alignment, like maybe too much toe in or toe out? Or you feel it maybe something else?
I plan to keep it for a little bit; I took it to the trails last weekend after I made this video... it handles great on the dirt; it was definitely just getting used to it.
Hey, guys, how you doing? I'm having issues on my 2016 can am Maverick 1000 R model, my DPS is not working. The dealer told me it was the DPS module. And they are Charging me $3000 to fix. Is there any after market that I can install? Or a place I can get a used one that will work on man.
