I can’t believe it’s been 6 years since i first saw this game, time flies. Haven’t checked you in a while it’s kinda nice seeing what you remember a small youtuber make it. Happy for you bro keep it up.
I can see huge potential in this game. Starting of with just this (miltiplayer) and then constructing a space port. You'd be able to control your fleet of spacecraft which you can use to trade for resources or fight for control over planets and even galaxies. That whould be so awsome.
@Blitzkriegsler there is a planned Lunar base due in 2020, there are plenty of resources on the moon from Helium 3 for fuel and the Lunar Regolith contains about 40% oxygen and high levels of silicon and Iron which can be used for O2 production and for building materials.
+Kenneth Donnelly +Blitzkriegsler Anyone hear that Elon Musk wants to put a million people on Mars? waitbutwhy.com/2015/08/how-and-why-spacex-will-colonize-mars.html
+Alex Edwards *adjusts foil hat --- Do you mean a tinfoil hat? If so, I again learned something new. Wait, what, where are we? Sh*t, they discovered us!
Great video! Just to clarify, each generator produces enough O2 for a certain number of people (20 or 30 depending on size), this is indicated in the info panel when you select the structure. You can see the generation vs consumption in the Grids panel, or in the Chars.
I was doing some planets recap for my schoolwork and I was on the mars part when i remembered this and I cant believe it has been half a decade since this series came out. Memories.
The moon has metals and water in the rocks. The trouble ultimately is that building up a colony is just hard, it takes a lot of resources and time and space to be self-sufficient. You can't just plop down a 25-foot wide hemisphere with some hydroponics racks and actually feed a dozen people over the long term. Food can't realistically be grown in sufficient quantity and variety for a colony to feed itself without an absolutely huge growing building...which wouldn't work anyways because the power and materials requirements would be ridiculous (especially since the lights would need to be on a lot during lunar night which lasts two weeks IIRC) and *even then* it would take many months to yield a harvest, necessitating a lot of supplies very early on. Beyond food, the main problem is building large enough structures; the materials to make them weigh a ton and more weight means more rocket fuel burned to get there. While we can build ISS modules, it takes much less fuel to get into a low orbit than it does to get out to the moon. It's ultimately prohibitive costwise (and very dangerous even if you had the money). As for producing things on-colony, while the moon certainly has metals, and plastics are taking over (and can indeed be made out of organics), a lot of components (electronics especially) require _very_ specific things and often very specific production techniques (can't just 3D-print circuits), which means that even with all the moon's titanium and iron and whatnot, you're still ultimately going to need to rely on supplies sent from Earth to build anything besides basic walls. Then you have to consider the health effects of lunar gravity and cosmic radiation and severe isolation and lunar dust (which is extremely sharp on a micro scale, making it potentially really bad not just for your lungs, but also your equipment, lunar astronauts had a lot of issues with it getting inside their suits and irritating them, and they weren't there for very long each trip)...
This seems really interesting. It reminds me of the old 90s games of Outpost and Outpost 2, though a little better and also a bit different, hehe. Looking forward to seeing how this gameplay progresses and what sort of colonies and bases and structures and components and stuff you can build and explore and adventure and stuff. So very cool looking forward to more of this!
"You take the role of the base *small pause* architect and..." Aw... I was really hoping I'd get to be THE BASE itself, like an a.i or something, maybe with the colonists being A.I controlled and they would be the ones building the base and expanding and etc and I'd get to help them
+Riael EagleEye That actually sounds like it'd be a fun game and provide a useful perspective so we can know what it'd be more like to be a base's a.i.!
This reminds me of an old game called "Outpost". I think the key would be in the balancing, and definitely am looking forward to see how this turn out.
The problems with colonizing the moon are: space launches are INCREDIBLY expensive and still very dangerous -- current technology would not make it profitable yet, so governments are responsible which lead to problem 2; governments do not cooperate as they should -- no central authority; another problem would be who owns/governs the place?; finally (of just the ones on the top of my head) people would probably be more concerned about fixing problems on earth before colonizing another planet, so there would not be high public opinion for it despite how cool it would be.
You were talking about why we don’t send people to the moon but that is because we have such big problems with terraforming and it would take multiple lifetimes just to terraform enough for even just one city
on the moon, moondust is insanely abrasive, it makes it really difficult to use mechanical devices, and even the space suits developed leaks with exposure
+Aslo Aso If there is any motion at all, stuff will wear. Only way to avoid it is if the mechanical components actually have no points of contact, example maglev. Solenoids and motors, the fine dusts will just destroy any bushing. The fine dust is the settling out from impact. Never been to a moon to know precisely what moondust is like. The physics speak though. As Blitz said above, there is no motion to cause erosion of sharp edges. As soon as any dust is stirred up, it will settle on something, get in there and just grind it down. Would be like if every bushing surface was sandpaper. On the moon, the best way to operate would be by maximizing usage of sacrifical layers. For example, a structure could have a surface layer much like paint. Some non volatile (won't boil in a vacuum) liquid or resin that goes on like a paint. Mechanical parts and seals designed with both mating components to be easily replacable.
Sold... I have been hmmming and haaaing about getting this title. So many negative reviews. Enjoyed your play through of the tutorial. Looks like my kind of game :-)
You know, I remember playing a game called Moonbase Tycoon? Was it? Anyway, it was a grid-base tycoon game where you, what else, set up a base on the moon (or asteroid with greater chance of shit hitting your base.) I'll be sure to pay extra close attention to this.
The moon can be colonized and isn't a waste of resources. The moon is made of valuable resources and elements that are hard to find on earth. While it isn't possible to use the surface for farming soil can be bought up and use and will be easy to do. Plus in a colony it would be easy to stop soil erosion because the air system would use filters to pick up the dirt kicked up in the air from the equipment.
That would be awesome if this game supports mods because there coıld be mods like advanced waopons mod or new bots or bioshock mod xd maybe STARWARS TRLOLOLL that would be awesome
Oyuncu Dedeler Yeah, plenty of possibilities of it, but i rather have a stable game without mods, then have an unstable buggy game with mod support ;) though Mod Support does help with longevity
The moon base might actually become something soon for the fact that helium 4 wich is an isotope of helium is need for fusion (process thats on the sun) to make power. While earth has some its not enough to last very long while the moon has a large amount of it
On the subject of moon colonies , it's not that there are no resources or that we don't want to land on it, it's that it ridiculously expensive. It costs 130 million dollars to land three people on the moon for a half hour and get them home; to support a colony until it became self sustaining off world would be the single most expensive project in human history.
Heh. Don't worry about the reading thing. I can read mentally/silently at a over 500wpm plenty easily myself, but as soon as I'm required to read something out loud, I regress to a first school level and start muddling words all over the place. Makes it sound like I can't read. Is a distinct skill of it's own I guess.
Just a few hurdles colonizing the moon. One of which is that we have no current rockets that could lift enough materials to reach lunar orbit. Next is the financing; no current government has the motive or political will to build something there. Then there is the argument that corporations will do it. They won't not without government incentive to offset their costs until there is a suitable profit for them, but they'll still argue that they need government subsidies to sustain a proper operating medium. I.E. oil; auto; banking;medical. Way too many. There are plenty of resources on the moon to sustain a colony, even more then enough to make money with to send back to Earth to make money with. With enough of build up on the moon you could supply the worlds material needs for construction resources or even luxury goods. The problem being that there is no way to transport it reliably back and forth, which goes back to the rocket problem. Yes we did know how to build them back in the 60's, but once the US switched to the shuttle program ditching the plans for further upgrades on the Saturn program they lost the experience and most of the tech to do it. Current rockets are great for getting into orbit, but do not have the throw weight needed to get the even 15 or so tonnes with supplies for two people lasting just over three days there now. Yes we send probes to the outer planets and into all sorts of orbits, but we can't do that currently. The average launch weight of most probes are from 1500kg to 20050kg via the Atlas launch rocket; whilst the Saturn V rockets had a payload launch weight of 47000 - 118000kg which enabled the program to send the lunar modules. Time for me to stop taking up space on Blitzs' comment section. Anywho's thanks again for the videos Blitz.
Seems Fallout Shelter (mobile game) inspired except more 3D. Also a bit weird that the bots have to do all the building while the humans stand around being lazy. You'd think with nothing else to do, the people would at least help.
7,5 minutes in only, but have to say already that I'm so going to get this! I've been waiting forever for a somewhat realistic planet building sim! :-) Thanks for the video Blitz! (My wallet hates you though) :D
Love the art style! Love the system. Love. . . .well everything :D See remember how basic rimworld was at some point? Imagine this game being as worked on as rimworld is. Wouldn't that be amazing? I'm sure at some point this build of the game will seem so basic to us we will laugh. I look forward to that day. until then I'm going to sit back and enjoy the art style! I'm also going to make this game with a model maker system. just for fun.

WE can do a base as soon as we have money for the project! The science we have. We will have to sooner or later, we will need the resources!! The moon ,mars , asteroid belt, etc. as far as we want to grow and expand!!

I got 85 people and 5 robots in my colony thus far. Then checked if anyone played this game on YT, glad I came by this channel.
The connections system reminds me of both Interplanetary as well as Offshore trading company in a way. This game looks fun!

+Kenneth Donnelly Nice! We'll see if NASA ever gets the funding for it.
+Blitzkriegsler I highly doubt it. If i recall correctly, they had their budget beng cut significantly in the last decades.

Whoooo!!! I was hoping you would play this! :D
The first time I saw this, I thought: Rimworld in 3D, and oxygen is now a factor XD
Blitz you are the best, you have an amazing voice. You should have 10 million subscribers
I agree
The Caspian u forgot a 0 somewhere in there

James Campbell you forgot 00 in Tharp you know that do you
The Caspian lol i am GONNA spam you

I still love this game, after all these years
I haven't even finished it yet, and I'm subbing. I really like the way you comment on things. Good vid so far.
I made 200 colony in my 6th try.
Sadly 5 colonies died out. Or had 1 or 2 sole survivors.
I was doing some planets recap for my schoolwork and I was on the mars part when i remembered this and I cant believe it has been half a decade since this series came out. Memories.
Yeah, this is one of my favorite series hoping to pick the game up soon.
This is like Terra Tech base building!
The same camera rotation mode was used in the game Ground Control 1. Its a bit more cinematic, but as you noticed, you need to get used to it.
They should pay you because this video just sold their game! Can't wait to play it.
I love this first episode so more
the one thing that needs fixing is the lag that happens when you rotate the cam
This game looks really fun and interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing you play and progress through the game. Good luck!
This looks cool, maybe you should do a quick play through (or long play through as it may turn out). Great work Blitz!!
Grilled onions for the win! So good.
+Derek “Steel Rev” Trahan
caramelized, man. sweet like candy!
nah, pure raw fresh onions! nice and juicy!

Reminds me of Outpost 1 from Sierra (1994), I loved that game. Never found I game like that again ... till now! Just great!
Blitz be like: ah yes let’s put the bay for sick people right next to the place where people eat
this game looks amazing can;t wait till its out of closed beta. this game has so much potential

Sean Jankowski this is all correct
I love space done some research and it’s correct of what your saying
Like this reply for secret

on the moon, moondust is insanely abrasive, it makes it really difficult to use mechanical devices, and even the space suits developed leaks with exposure
+Adam Cradam Parkes I remember reading about that - isn't it because there is no wind to grind down the corners of the dust?
One can get away with using digital motors and large solenoids for mechanical movement without being effected by fine moon dust
BigRedWood, who is this Robot & where do we find them?
+Aslo Aso If there is any motion at all, stuff will wear. Only way to avoid it is if the mechanical components actually have no points of contact, example maglev. Solenoids and motors, the fine dusts will just destroy any bushing.

MarkusReese, well being all pessimistic in your comments I gather you'd never visit the moon.
This game looks like a lot of fun!
KEEP PLAYING THIS PLEASE

BLITZ YOU ROCK
I support your idea to make a series out of this :)
the onion rings have to be gluten free maybe someone there is a cylac
You know, I remember playing a game called Moonbase Tycoon? Was it? Anyway, it was a grid-base tycoon game where you, what else, set up a base on the moon (or asteroid with greater chance of shit hitting your base.)
I'll be sure to pay extra close attention to this.
Wow blitz your base is so neat. Almost OCD symmetrically neat. I like it and hate it at the same time. :P
I think that our moon is going to be a practice for a colony in the future because it s clause and if help is needed it's not that far!
+Никита Ефремян ETs does not want us there.
+Никита Ефремян The moon would be an Absolutely terrible place for a colony. More like a waste of resources than anything.
+Никита Ефремян The moon has a shitty environment and too much problems for a colony. It's way easier building on Mars even it's further away.
***** Mars also has soil that can actually support farming.

Voron Agrrav You're absolutely right of course. I'll definitely be picking this up regardless of mod support. I love games where 'Losing is Fun'.
+Spectre v13 of course there will be. computer games would all be horrible if they couldn't.
Blitz you are the best you deserve more subs than dantdm
The moon base might actually become something soon for the fact that helium 4 wich is an isotope of helium is need for fusion (process thats on the sun) to make power. While earth has some its not enough to last very long while the moon has a large amount of it
Moon bases have to be built out of really tough and expensive stuff, the moondust is really, really sharp. Like, *_REALLY_* sharp.

I would appreciate if you would make more videos about this game
This looks really interesting. Ive seen a 16 bit game like this on Armorgames and was hoping someone would do this on a much greater scale.

Why did this got recommended 5 years later??? But im still happy about it lol
More, more, more :D
Woo for being dyslexic, it makes the English language so much more exciting xD
Awesome, I saw this game a few days ago and wanted to get it. I'd need to get a new PC first but still. Oh and keep up the great videos Blitz!

Wait what?
Wow sooooooooooooooooo so so so so so long!!!
Tell that to Elon Musk.
the intro of this vid imediately made me think of rimworld
Reminds me of the game Banished, only on mars. Even the music is similar.
I thought you would say they call it a mine from your forts series
Seems Fallout Shelter (mobile game) inspired except more 3D.
Also a bit weird that the bots have to do all the building while the humans stand around being lazy. You'd think with nothing else to do, the people would at least help.
the colonist do work the engineers construct things it just happens to be the only thing that bot is good at is building
I'm glad kermit the frog found voice over work after the end of the muppet show. 🐸
im up for being in your new colony, but forget the dorms, i want the med beds
when that nostalgia hit differently
The realistic version of astroneer
This is like above-water, RTS Subnautica, or Subnautica is the under-water FPS Planetbase.
i played this game and i got so addicted i played it like 10 hours in one peace xD
and i will play it again when its fully completed
7,5 minutes in only, but have to say already that I'm so going to get this! I've been waiting forever for a somewhat realistic planet building sim! :-) Thanks for the video Blitz! (My wallet hates you though) :D
It reminds me very much of the old DOS based game; "Outpost" and "Outpost 2"
I can't wait for the next ep
speaking of the moon thats a great idea i played a game that lets u colonize the moon its called sol plus the moon is home to many resourcez
i like the look of this game
"Banished" on an alien planet? I'm in.
The moon has a lot of resources like helium H3, h2o deposits etc.
more of this please :)
We want to colones the moon to collect Helium 3 (He3). it is one of the few things we can use for fusion power and it abundant on the lunar suface
Awesome gameplay
Hmmm. What is this almost exactly like? Oh! Astroneer! Lol
Hey ctop I love your voids bro.
Cooked onions are yummy! (Not included onion rings)
haha i thought "is he dyslexic?" 5 seconds later you say "thats the dyslexia talking"
welcome to the club!
lol
I love how you keep saying “Wind Turban” instead of “Wind Turbine”
i miss this game
" Wind turbans " gg blitz
More planetbase please
Love it. Plz play more
Him never connecting the first turbine drove me insane.
19:56 NASA is planing on sending Orion missions to the moon again I think some time before 2018 and build bases and test things there before going to mars
This game it right! The Oxygen bar goes up to only 22% Which is about how much we ideally need to breath in real life!
Are you gonna do the full series 1
I love this game
You are awesome CTop
Ah the good old days
The issue with the moon is water, alongside carbon which means you cant build new filters
even though it's a fictional show
they succeed in making a moon base in space 1999... and Putin already said he was going to build a base on the moon to begin with so...
I might ask my mom if I can get this game and do a gameplay on it and I also really like youre gameplay on this
yeah the moon has basically no usable resource other than that the rocks are good for making cement.
Love your videos
game of the year
that was baller more I need to see more I love the point on what ur supposed to do in the game (ur on Mars )
It looks a lot nicer graphically to rimworld, It will be interesting to see how it develops
+ZemZoid Rimworld's graphics are niche and a lot of people love that style
love it!
WE can do a base as soon as we have money for the project! The science we have. We will have to sooner or later, we will need the resources!! The moon ,mars , asteroid belt, etc. as far as we want to grow and expand!!
