Yeah this is greenwashing of the highest order. Firstly, cement making involves heating limestone and other additives to roughly 1450°C to chemically alter them. Thats pretty much the same as ceramic tiles. Secondly, Black Carbon is pretty much the same stuff that would be used as pigment in this application anyway. The only positive here is that they maybe use more black carbon than strictly necessary in the production, but even that only serves to slightly shrinking the tiles carbon footprint and is no way a great new way to reduce pollution like Business Insider wants to tell us.

Well said this is what's about to say you have done, I am manufacture, carbon is just pigment which goes 1-3% in cement tile processing, its no way environmental friendly its just eye wash 😉 😜, to produce cement tile you need lot of water for cureing this water can't be use and cement its self not environmental friendly on the processing and for converting greay colors you don't need carbon, gray cement itself enough

2:55 "But Carbon Tiles made from CEMENT are never baked, so the process doesn't require a lot of energy."
Cement requires HUGE amounts of energy to produce. It involves mining for raw materials, crushing limestone, drying the stone using hot air and grinding. It is then superheated to 1400°C in a kiln. It must be cooled using extractor fans. The resulting clinker is then crushed into powdered cement.
Does this sound like a low energy/low pollution process? 🤔

The amount of actual pollutants captured by these tiles is so minimal that I'm surprised Business Insider got so sucked into this concept. What this video gets wrong the most is that carbon is toxic... ITS NOT. What is hazardous is small particles and breathing them in (and that applies pretty much to all small particles)... Carbon itself like this is actually common in nature. Think of charcoal for example. So what they are doing is not only uneccessary but also health hazard for their workers. Best solution? Bury it. It will work as a natural filter for water and its actually benefitial for plants (of course depending on ammount). After all it is actually common in nature. Every time volcano errupts or forrest burns what do you think ends up in the atmosphere and then in the ground? :D
PS: This carbon is commonly used in dying plastic, ink, or even tires. And in much bigger ammounts. What they show in the video is actually a waste of drinkable water. Nothing more.

This has already been done. Pretty sure it was featured in another business insider video. They basically made plastic trash bricks. Problem with this idea is that micro plastics will be released each time cars go over the concrete - which is extremely dangerous for humans. Most videos I see that have an “eco” alternative, always have a big caveat and are not as revolutionary as they seem. I think the best movement right now is the clean the oceans movement which is actually a feasible goal with no real caveat.

so they burn tires which makes polution > Sells the carbon so they can makes tiles > soon everyone want tiles > more tires needs to be burned off and more polution is made.. I see they are really smart.
Why not dig a hole and put it there insted? if its solid why use it? - Maybe make tires without carbon in it, that would solve both tires burning and carbon in air.
