    Honestly, this is the best podcast about wine. No nonsense, just pure knowledge. I would love if you do more based on wine region.

      I can’t agree more with you. It’s unfortunate that these are no longer being produced but I understand the caster has moved on to his day job. Excellent information

    Thank you so much for sharing your valuable knowledge with us! I am using your channel to educate my Italian restaurant staff and we are both gaining a lot of knowledge. They are assigned an episode each week and are tested on the info. Working out really well. Cheers!

    Great cast. For the future topics, I would like to see how geographic (mountains, rivers, soils, oceans) and climate affect the grapes and style of wine. Thank you again.

    I know this is two years on, but I'd say that I am using these to help study regions for WSET 3.
    It could be interesting if you transferred any of these into podcast form. Not to capitalise on the knowledge, but I find it's easier to cue things up in Spotify.
    Thank you for all these videos! I bet a lot of people who have passed WSET have you to thank.

    Great new cast! Bellissimo! At your request for a request on new cast topics, I rather enjoy this particular style. Zoning in on a particular sub region of importance, briefing on the laws of the area, noting on the major grapes and notable styles with some maps sprinkled in. I also wanted to mention that I was listening to one of your earlier casts yesterday and noticed how you have progressed on confidence in speaking on the subject in more recent casts. Nice work my friend! Thank you. Cheers!

    This15 minute video would take me a semester and hours of study time to learn. Very informative but intimidating. The best I'll ever do is pick out flavors on the nose and palette, know if I like it, be able to pair with food, and basic knowledge. The nose, palette, and pairing are gifts, lack of knowledge weakness. Great video.

      Thanks for the kind comment. Knowing about appellations and history and such isn't particularly important to enjoying wine -- the important things are well made wine and people to drink it with -- but I've noticed that not knowing about them sometimes keeps people from trying new things and exploring, so I hope these casts make it easier for folks to take chances and see what's out there. Knowledge is just a tool, but wine is magic.

    Individual grape varietals would be very interesting, especially with consideration of tasting notes and food pairings.

    Nice summary on the best of what Veneto has to offer! Now that the demand for prosecco has risen, the price has grown over its value. (In my opinion). Because of that I have been looking into the other sparklers from this area. Bardolino Spumante for example, has some great ones to recommend! I also would love to try a sparkling from Soave at some point (Didn't even know they made any! Thanks!)
    I honestly enjoy all of your content! But if I have to narrow it down to a single theme, it would be great to see more grape vids and maybe some timeline of important events in the history of wine production (hint hint to my cast request, hehe).

    • @TheUnknownWinecaster
      @TheUnknownWinecaster  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've heard a lot of people say that about the quality vs. price of Prosecco. I think there are still some real finds out there, but you do have to look for the more innovate producers. As for other sparklers, I'll tell you what, you look out for the sparkling Soave and I'll keep an eye out for the sparkling Bardolino. Cheers, my friend!

    Thanks for your point that the .5-1.0% more alcohol to the superiore level indicates likely more time on the vine and ripeneing time. I had always heard that Superiore had no legal meaning, and thus I kind of tossed it to the side as a marketing word. This helps me key into the possible benefit to the wine and my palate, grazie! Salute!

  • @swivellogic
    @swivellogic 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    as per your survey: If it works for your studies and interests, I'd love to see some casts on notable producers (of a given region, style, etc.). I find myself focusing on the what of wine much more than the who. I find myself focusing on the grapes and regions, but I don't no a Masi from a Tommasi, a Dr. Konstantin from a Dr. Frank. I'm not sure if that's as useful to others, but it's my two cents. :)

    • @TheUnknownWinecaster
      @TheUnknownWinecaster  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for that feedback. I struggle a lot with the idea of naming producers. It's not that I have a problem with it in general terms -- it's very useful information -- but I worry that these casts have enough going on in terms of information already. If I do a really thorough treatment of producers from an area then the cast for that area is likely to be too long and unwieldy, but if I mention only a couple of producers then I'm almost certainly skipping a number of producers that deserve to be mentioned probably in favor of a few that are already famous. So, I've tended not to see discussing individual producers as part of my "mission." Perhaps that will change in the future. Meanwhile there are a lot of great reviewers and commentators on TH-cam and elsewhere that take up my slack. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!

    I don't know if you're still answering to the comments from your old videos, but could you tell me how much residual sugars is there approximatively in Recioto della Valpoliccella please ? Because I've read online up to 160 g/L and I don't understand how is it possible if there are only 4 %vol difference from Recioto to Amarone ... Thanks, great video !

    A fine overview of the Veneto wine region. I find these casts immensely interesting and would like you to drill down and explore in a more detailed cast a sub region or variety of the region. Although you do not promote specific brands it would be helpful if you mentioned some of them. There is a wealth of variety in the Netherlands where I live and a pointer to brands or reading the labels would be helpful;.

    • @TheUnknownWinecaster
      @TheUnknownWinecaster  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for taking the time to watch and write in. I will eventually return to the Veneto to do more specific casts; perhaps one on the wines of the Valpolicella might be the first that I do. I understand the interest in specific producers, but I don't see mentioning brands and producers, unless they're uniquely important to the story of a style or region (like Domaine Tempier in Bandol, for example), as my "mission," so to speak. Ultimately, it takes time away from what I think I do best, which is providing specific information that helps my viewers make better sense of wine history, law and culture; so, I'd prefer to leave producers and such to others to mention. Thanks again for watching and commenting. Cheers!

      I welcome the plan to include Valpolicella wines in a specific winecast. Pity about not mentioning brands but I understand the reasons why you do not. Keep wine-casting, drink good wine bur drink responsibly. Happy Christmas

    Can we get a Podcast on Puglia/Southern Italy?

    • @TheUnknownWinecaster
      @TheUnknownWinecaster  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will eventually do a cast dedicated to Puglia and ones dedicated to each of the regions in Southern Italy, but the logical time for me to do those would be when I'm working on the second unit for Italian Wine Scholar, and that should happen later in the year -- perhaps mid-Summer or Fall. Cheers!

      The Unknown Winecaster ok well I'm doing the unit 3 exam for WSET diploma in exactly two months time - this exam covers wines from all over the world so the more podcasts you can do between now and then, the better! It's good revision

    Hi there, you said 332 DOCs in Italian wine classification video and here you said 329, which one is correct?

    • @TheUnknownWinecaster
      @TheUnknownWinecaster  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not sure either of those is anymore, the most recent list I've seen counts 334. Part of the problem is that new DOCs are being created but also that some lists or curricula divide up and count the DOCs differently based on specialty wines within them and such. Personally, I've moved away from trying to give specific numbers for these appellations for these reasons and more recently you'll just hear me say things like "more than 300" or something like that. If you're studying for a certification and they give you a specific number, that's what you should commit to memory. Hope that helps. Cheers!
