That abandoned building with the smashed windows on Monticello Avenue used to be a halfway House at one time but I think it moved to the outskirtscof town.If you should ever revisit you should visit the"Little Italy section of Clarksburg " Glen Elk" where the last big wave of Immigrants came to town over a century ago.Clarksburg is also home of the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival where over 100,000 people visit during the Labor Day Weekend and the West Virginia Black Heritage Festival the following week.The largest Ethnic Group in Clarksburg is Italian,I think it's like 60 percent of the population there has some italian ancestry.
Wow you missed the chance to get really great pepperoni rolls while in Clarksburg. The Ritzy Lunch has the best hot dogs to, you literally drove right past it on Pike Street..

I was born in the Baltimore Suburbs, have been in every state in the Union east of the Mississippi, and intentionally chose West Virginia to retire to, because it reminds me most of the America I grew up in, in the 1950s. The people are hard-working, unpretentious, mostly Christian, down to Earth, decent Americans. They know they are ridiculed by the left-wing snobs, who couldn't survive on their own for a month without HELP. They don't look down on the rest of depraved America, though they COULD from their mountain perch. They just pity them.

Did you get a steak hoagie at the Parkette Restaurant on Bridgeport Hill? If not, you missed the best hoagie in the world. Make sure you get grilled onions and sweet peppers in sauce. Worth my trips back to WV just for that.

I will say that you are obviously more familiar with your own city and state, perhaps you could pick that apart for us? I enjoy this whole genre of people doing honest close ups of a town - what makes it great, what is challenging about it (have you ever heard of Chris Harden?) you can find Ghetto in any city but Clarksburg is a rather expen$ive community, especially the beautiful homes.
