  • In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the publication of "Fear of Flying," Sheryl McCarthy and author Erica Jong, revisit the 70's and the sexual revolution. They discuss the attitudes of today's young women toward liberated sexual activity and the backlash that has led to punishing legislation against women's health. (Taped: 10/18/13)
Journalist Sheryl McCarthy talks with newsmakers about their sources of inspiration. She has private conversations about public affairs issues with the people who report on them and those who ARE the story. The subjects range from global warming issues to domestic ones.
McCarthy says, "I'm really looking forward to hosting One To One. One of the best things about being a journalist is you get to meet a lot of smart and interesting people and to pick their brains, so to speak, about a variety of important issues affecting our daily lives. It's a learning process both for the journalist and for the audience you're able to reach. The advantage of One To One is that there are no sound bites - just provocative, insightful, and thoughtful conversation. We have some phenomenal guests lined up for One To One and I'm excited about hearing what they have to say."

I'm reading Fear of Flying for the first time. I think that it's great that I got to watch this before reading it. Erica Jong is a true feminist, and I love that she brings up particular issues during this interview. I can't wait to start this book!

She talks about sex as an actual, healthy thing. Today it is only shiny lifestyle in the media or terrible porn.

great result of feminism , women in there 40,s,50,s 60,s 70 and eighties living alone and loving it. --- Not the ones who sacrificed family for jobs and work , they seemed to panic around the age of forty. Erica is an out of touch wealthy person with dangerous ideas.

Your explanation of feminism is out of touch....period. Erica Jong dangerous? Haha, perhaps to over bearing men who are unable to see that feminism is all about equality. Some men are afraid of feminism, afraid of seeing women as their equal. What a shame that you cannot see that..

It would be nice if the interviewer could look at Erica Jong rather than lowering her head to look at her notes. It might have helped if she actually read Fear of Flying as well.

Nothing quite like rich, pampered, spoilt women whining about how tough their incredibly comfortable, privileged, non-productive lives are.
