Well this is the one thing most people don't quite understand. The ESC isn't the only thing that needs to be able to handle the increased voltage, the motor also have a max voltage rating, and it's somewhat related to kv of the motor. If you exceed the voltage rating, you also pull more amps, and more amps results in more heat. And if you look at the same motor segment(Same wattage range from the same manufacturer), you will see the amps and kv go up hand in hand, while the max voltage rating goes down. And reverse, if the kv goes down the amps rating goes down and the voltage rating goes up. So just adding more voltage to a motor, could run it way out of spec. And result in a motor and/or ESC burning up. I would recommend people start by looking at the spec sheet of the motors, and not just focus on the ESC.
As I did mention the cure is to either stick to 6s with the stock motor or upgrade to a poseidon 8s motor like I use on my twin 8s infraction. You raise good points though
@@DriftomaniacsRC It wasn't aimed at you. As you said yourself, it was the whole point of the video. I was just trying to spread the word, as it seems like everyone just thinks that higher kv = faster motor, like there's nothing more to it.
HAVE you ever ran the 8s esc/motor combo in the FELONY? With the 27 pinion? My goal is to have a little more torque and stronger acceleration without cogging or heating up. I don’t need to go above 70mph but I do want the best control/performance
Glad yu got it sorted Rich. Definitely will stay cool on 6s now with the 160amp ESC.. You can always gear it up taller for more wheel speed, while keeping 6s.
Good knowledge being shared here . I put a max 6 in a few of my 1/8 RC’s , it’s 8s capable but I generally run 6s as well. Seems to be a good way to keep the electronics alive
John that depends 100% on where you have to run either car, Infraction V2 is going to be at it's best on an open parking lot 1000ft+ It'll do 90 and so a 500ft lot won't cut it! The xmaxx is good just about anywhere, but if you more likely to be running on grass / loose dirt the xmaxx is the best over multisurface terrain. If you've loads of good blacktop near you then I'd say the infraction
My V1 Infraction did the same thing on stock setup. I changed motor, then changed the ESC. Finally upgraded the stock 4mm bullets to 6.5mm with dual fans I've had no issues since 🤞🏾😁
I noticed it is hard for the car to brake so I only use the braking to roll the chassis then quickly give it throttle to make a turn or to stop while steering either way love my Felony 6S
What the fuck I dont understand what you mean dude !!! You have to use brake to stop the car, or release the throttle to slowly stop the car. If the car is hard for you to brake you should not play the rc car.
YOU KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS???? I’ve had this same $h¡t playing in my head for months!!!!! “Why don’t the Felony STOP with the 8s esc??? If it can stop a 30 pound truck why they heck can’t it stop a car of 11 pounds??? Well I’ve asked alllll of TH-camrs with that setup bcs they all said OH THERE’S BARELY ANY BRAKES!! Noooo reply wtf. SO….. my boy sent me his used 8s combo and I dropped both the motor and esc in the Felony and I ALSO raised the punch and brakes to 100%….. so, yes the shit STOPS with the esc programmed to 100%…. My only problem is, im just at 6s still for now but the 6s combo or just the 6s esc by itself STILL has MORE resolution than the 8s esc….. this is bcs higher resolution means more precise programming and accuracy with the ESC’s functionality! Off road you do not need that much esc functionality bcs it’s a sloppy driving condition. But on road with massive traction and high speeds with very little room for error, you need that esc to do exactly what you tell it to without slack. That consumes battery power to process that many commands per nano second and also heat. So on an 8s setup with that much processing and voltage plus weight of the truck, it’ll be impractical. The 8s speed control is good on the felony if you want to go in a straight line. But if you want to drift and have accurate throttle response, I do not recommend it because the reaction time is very sloppy. I have not tried it with the stock Felony motor but I will as soon as my adapters come in, Still all the videos I’ve seen on TH-cam no matter what the motor is, it’s only good for speed runs.
Part of the reason the 1/5 scale truck is kind of sloppy isn’t just because of the weight and the moving parts that jiggle a lot, it’s also the sloppy reaction time of the speed control.
Another great vid! So you think it was just a matter of the fan being unplugged that caused the meltdown then? Have you had any other trouble with that motor on 8s?
The guys at JJ customs have run the stock 6s motors on 8s and they will do 2-3 speed run passes (Like 100mph) before they get a little too warm, I hooned the hell out of it the other night in the yard and it was fine, so either I should have let it sit on the side with the fan running to cool it for 5mins, or the fan wasn't connected when hooning and it fried itself on the bench afterwards. Either way it was my error! The powerhobby twin turbo fan at $19 is my weapon of choice though!
I've ordered the programmer as the manual doesn't match the variables! You follow the manual? ESC tells you brake setting has 9 settings but manual only shows 4...I've programmed loads of arrmas and somethings just not right...I will get to the bottom of it but the settings for the 160A esc don't match the manual. I've looked at the outcast 8s one and same problem.
@@DriftomaniacsRC my 160 is out of a outcast and has 7 brake settings like the manual. You have 9 on the one Horizon sent you? Now my manual that came with the firma esc shows only 4 brake settings, the problem is when I go to the supposed brake settings? It has 9, which means it can't be the brake! Now I've looked at the 160 outcast manual as well and that also shows only 4. I'll look at that link (much appreciated) tonight, but somethings not right for sure! I've programmed enough of these esc's to know I'm doing it right but something ain't marrying up right! Info much appreciated though as that would explain a lot. Either the esc or the manual they sent is wrong! I'll get there though!
@@DriftomaniacsRC yeah that is strange, the manual from the link I sent is what works for mine, but like I said it only has 7 brake settings, not 9 like yours. I’m also on the Infraction user groups on Facebook, I’ve seen you post over before.
I didn't think the factory fans are that powerful, on my two you can barely hear them an they don't seem to blow much air. I'm changing mine over to gamechanger fans. I've seen someone else on TH-cam running 8s on the stock motor without any problems 😎
I use the power hobby twin turbo fans $19.99 makes them hard to beat. The stock motor is always going to get warm at somepoint, as I say I hide nothing away but others may care to 'park' some details. Thought for the day? Maybe they are pushing the car as hard as me or using 100-200C batteries :-)
@@DriftomaniacsRC nah this guy shows everything like you👍 I did get a set of those same fans you use for my first infraction, I just wanted to try something else out for my Felony as I've upgraded the esc to a mamba monster x 8s.
Mac I've not 'range' tested it yet but it's better than the infraction V1 one for sure, although why the brake on the Esc is set on 75% is beyond me. If you have the 'brake range' on the TX turned up to 100% you're only getting 75% as that's what the ESC is set on, bit bizzarre eh?
@@DriftomaniacsRC on mine i will have no throttle or steering during a run. Now it turns on but keeps resetting itself. My guy at my hobby shop said its not the first time he's had someone with this problem with felony. What's a good remote that's similar? Thanks
I ran my Typhoon with 8s and it ran cooler. OHMs law..power equal to voltage times current...so higher volatge is less current everything else being equal. Just make sure the motor and ESC are capable of the voltage you will be running.
