A great unit!! My husband installed it with no issues. He asked I start up the video.. ran it while he was installing it..stopping it etc. as he went on. We bought two more for our other bedrooms, they are very nice…. Extremely quiet! Bravo!

Just finished installing my new Midea U air conditioner. Thank you for this instruction video, it was very useful (combined with the included instruction manual). The support bracket, side foam, and overall sealing are very well designed!
My only (small) complaint is that there was slightly not enough window sealing foam. My Side Arm Foam pieces were cut to 7.25 inches each and I followed the instructions to start the window sealing foam slightly above the bottom of them. Afterwards, there was not enough remaining to cover the bottom of the window's lower sash. However, there was only about half an inch on each side that wasn't sealed and I was able to cut off some of the extra window sash foam to stick into those two spots. So functionally, this wasn't a big issue at all. But if a Midea employee sees this comment, I suggest increasing the length of the Window Sealing foam by 1-2 inches.

    I just installed my unit.
The installation was a bit involved but worth doing and a few minor steps were missed in video. Like removing the screws before setting the anti-tilt bars.
Also in the video its worth showing how to slide the AC onto the tracks.
I am a handy person so none of these posed much of an issue bit I’m sure others would appreciate a completed illustration.
Also I think its worth noting that I still needed to install AC window insulation foam. Every window is different from the illustrations so there are gaps that won’t be covered with the stock foam that was provided.

It’s a nice unit, efficient and quiet. Take note that the 1” screws will not fit the holes of the bottom section of the horizontal bracket. You will need to widen these before you can use the 1” screws. This can add a level of frustration to a fairly confusing install. That said, I think the unit is worth it.

Costco has these on super sale right now: $279 ($50 off) when Amazon is selling for $450. I was so happy with one, that we bought a second. The video really adds to the manual ... it was a bit tricky with the installation but I like how many "safeguards" there are to keep the unit in place. Super important since mine is for a 2nd story window. Highly recommend this unit so far: quiet, small, and feels so secure with the U-shaped design.

I have to agree that this was very frustrating to install. I used the video as my primary source, and one missing step (remove the screws before sliding the anti-tilt brackets) plus some annoying finagling with the foam I had to cut (they said to add 1/4" but my measurements were spot on and required no additional foam) were my main sticking points. My window has a roof just outside of it, not a wall, so I had to flip the support arms around to rest on the roof -- thankfully doing so still resulted in about a 1 degree tilt outside (according to my phone's measure app) and tonight is the first real test of it. On the plus side, it is exceptionally quiet compared to the usual window units I buy, and seems to be cooling quite well. The big test for me is going to be whether I get musty/moldy odors after it rains. I'd suggest adding some support arms for different window/roof configurations and a lot more foam/strips for making mistakes with.

This video really helped vs the printed instructions. Thank you!
Only grip I really had was my window was around 24 or 25 inches wide. For that, there really should be 2 of the shorter bars. The longer bar has to be in to the opposite side hole, making it off center and not the greatest fit on the short side. Add like $10 to the AC for it (not much vs the total cost).
Other than that, nice machine! One person in our house likes a really quiet room for sleeping, so this should work perfect. Ty!

@@rayzerot Yes. I can type here that it's "quieter" or even the "quietest" window AC unit you can buy, but that really doesn't communicate just how quiet this things is, especially if it's installed in a late model window. It is probably two orders of magnitude quieter than every other window AC unit. No exaggeration, no hyperbowl, it's so quiet you'll wonder what the heck the other window AC companies have even been doing for the last 20 years. They're selling us literally the same units they were selling us in the early 2000's except with a smart chip in them. Meanwhile these guys are selling us this brilliant piece of modern engineering for slightly more money.

I made some quick SPL measurements before replacing another unit with this one. At least on full blast, the midea unit measures somewhat close to the old unit. The midea has a constant low hum, which I prefer to the high pitch squealing of the old unit. My measurements are pretty rough, but I'd say it's a 5dBa improvement with the midea once the room has reached normal temperature again.
I think it's funny how the instructions for lipped seals is just like, welp, don't use those two screws because they won't work. I put a 2x4 against my lipped seal and screwed it into the sill, then installed the unit onto that. I wasn't comfortable or sure whether the lips on my sill would hold the weight well.
I do think there may be room for improvement - if there was some rubber insulated mounting there may be less sound transfer into the building. The outside angled support arms have rubber feet, but the cotter pins could use a rubber ring or mount. The bottom of the unit could have rubber where it mates with the support bracket.
I may have myself to blame because the lipped sill probably transfers much less sound, and not much sound is going to make it through the extension arms. By using a 2x4 I provide a solid transmission path to the building.

I wanted to buy one of 8,000 or 10,000 BTU models in June, but then there was a heat wave and all my local stores were out of them until the start of July! I found this much more time-consuming to install than previous window AC's that I have bought, but I did finally get it installed and going. It's been running for about 30 minutes now, and so far I'm happy with it. 🙂 The window I put this in was basically the perfect size for the short right-side extension arm. I really like that I feel very confident that the AC is firmly installed right now, but I worry it will be even more time-consuming to re-install when I go to do it next year or the year after that.
There are a lot of things I like about this (so far!), but I wish it was simpler to install. I do realize it must be quite a challenge to make an AC wish can be securely and firmly installed in the wide range of windows which exist. When I ordered this I expected that next year I'd buy a second one of these to replace the (still working) window AC in another room in my house. Now I'm not quite so sure I'll do that.

I don’t understand why some people think the installation is complicated. Yes, as you would expect, it took a few hours, but I’m very happy with the results. The design of the unit is excellent, and so is the manual and feature set. Room for improvement? There always is: even if the AC is pretty quiet, there is a low-frequency vibration that’s transmitted to the wall, so it ends up being audible and a little annoying. Another one: all foam gaskets and blocks are of dubious quality/appearance (they scream “Made in China”, which is not obvious for the rest of the excellent unit). Bottom line: I would recommend this product, and I would buy it again for myself, but at the same time I think there is a little room for improvement.

Agree with the comment below about the challenge with 24in window openings. Not enough holes for the left bracket to be centered. I actually had to drill into one of the smaller holes on the bracket itself and slide that metal clip into the new hole. Shortens the left bracket. In addition for some reason my ac unit was off center. The two tracks on the bottom of the unit are 8 inches apart but had to make thr right bracket 9 inches to the end and the left 7 inches for the ac unit to sit snug on the channels. Was more difficult than expected. Lots of tiny cracks that need to be sealed still. This probably works better with a bigger window.

When we turned it on, it worked for about 5 minutes, then turned off and flashed "EC 07." I noticed the condenser fan wasn't spinning. I opened the compressor housing and took out a 2" by 4" piece of sticky black goo/resin/insulation that was sitting on the bottom of the compressor housing, blocking the fan from rotating. Once the black resin was removed, the A/C worked normally.

I was interested in this unit for some time , I finally decided on purchasing it to see if I can fit it in my window opening which was smaller than the minimum opening requirements. 12 " height to be specific, It took about 5 extra minutes to disassemble the window balance, but it was easy.. I really wanted to make a video but I'm not set up for that.
Originally I wanted mini split until I was quoted 8k for a single zone system by multiple companies.
I purchased the 8 k Midea u shaped unit for under 350 after taxes and its doing a great job cooling 400 square feet of the lower level of my ranch, I would have purchased the 10 or 12k but they were not available for pick up near me.

Yes the installation instructions are quite wordy but I didn’t think they were that bad. My issue was that the screws were too big for the holes in the bracket. I have a flat sill and needed to use the 1” screws to stabilize. Too thick to use with the holes in the bracket. Now I have to pray I have the correct screws

We grabbed two of the 8,000 units to put in the kids rooms. Quite a bit quieter than others I've had in the past. We choose these for the security of the window closing in the middle of the unit for safety, also wanted the WiFi to monitor them from across the house. (Haven't explored that yet) Also really like how it doesn't block the other side of the window glass.
The windows in the rooms are both 52 inches, well outside the range for the included install hardware. I spent probably an hour and a half figuring out how to fabricate a mounting system using the support arms included in the box. (Well worth the time) And watching the video was helpful, even though I ignored a lot of it, some of the kit wasn't useful with my install.
Once I figured the first one out, the second one went in in less than 15 minutes.

I set up the center support bracket in accordance with the instructions, leaving off the side arms. Mounted the unit towards the side instead of the middle of the window, and trimmed one of the styrofoam blocks to fit the short side. I also bolted the lower lip of the inside of the support bracket to the flange at the bottom of the opening for structural security. For the long side I cut and trimmed a piece of lumber with a set of dado blades to lock into the window track. You might need to get some foam to close the gap at the top of the lower window pane, the foam strip that comes with the unit might not be long enough. I'm planning on using a standard cabinet surface latch to lock it in place.
I didn't list any exact measurements because your window probably isn't exactly like mine, you'll need to figure some of it out for the differences.
I hope this helps you enough to figure out what you'll need.

You definitely need the video to install as the written instructions can be a little confusing. I watched the video a couple times (and a couple other unboxing videos) before I started my install. We have a 200+ year old house so our windows are far from standard. I knew in advance I would have to add some wood under the unit for the bracket. I measured the window made the center mark and installed the bracket. Everything was spot on. However when I installed the unit, with it properly positioned, the openings to either side were different - one side I had to cut the foam to 4" and the other side was 2". I guess the storm windows were not installed to center LOL. In our case, the window doesn't close in the U, the storm window does. I don't know that I'd be able to properly install the bracket if I based it on the window instead of the storm. Other that that, very pleased with our unit.

Just got mine. Installation was a problem.old house with wood and cement sills both. Had to MacGyver support for the legs.
Only thing worth mentioning is the side screws for bracket, put them in and take them out before installing unit. I had to take a shorty screw driver and pliers to turn them.
There is no quality control for foam pieces with lip, the lip was not on the edge. Had to bend them to get it inside of window sash.
Well designed, really quiet. I use the app instead of remote.

I just finished installation of our 8000btu and just have to say: wow, this is the most quiet AC for the cooling power and price I've experienced.
re: the :U" design: being able to open the window while the unit was installed was less of a want than just the promised noise reduction the design provides; but the way the bracket system takes the weight of the unit actually makes installation process much less of a pain over traditionally designed window ACs. The provided foam sealing material took a bit of time to properly size out and customize to the bracket's fitting with my somewhat dated window frame; but once they were in, they sealed much better than what I've experienced with other ACs' "side skirts", plus *none* of the cut-to-fit sealing material or sealing design is permanently adhered to anything but the removeable bracket and unit. That's a really nice feature for folks like me that live in buildings with colder winters, where we're required to remove our window AC units seasonally.
And as far as the noise reduction itself, literally all I can hear inside - even when it's running on its highest settings - is just ordinary fan noise. None of the rattling or gurgling *at all*.
    *Very* satisfied with this purchase.

If you can't even put the right parts in the box, how soon will I be replacing this thing because you skipped on other parts as well.

i'm installing this in a horizontal opening window.. I already bought the plywood I'm putting in above it. (it's a back window that can't be seen by any neighbors so it's fine.) The hardest part so far is the bracket. My window has a 7" lip below it that makes putting those diagonal brackets against the wall impossible so i'm cutting wood right now to brace it against the ground. A fairly hacky approach but I'll probably think of something better by next summer.

I bought one of those last summer and it was such a relief.
    I encountered 2 problems:
1- the supporting arms of the window bracket are too short; technically I could bring them all closer to the window, but the concrete part of the window sill blocks them. It made the whole thing a bit unstable, but since my balcony is on the other side of the window, I thought it shouldn’t be too problematic. But now I want to buy a second unit and this time there is no balcony. Are there longer arms available?
2- maybe because it wasn’t perfectly leveled (see point 1), some water was leaking from time to time. Does a perfectly leveled unit prevents that? Is there a drain ?
    Thanks.

Jean, you do not want any window AC to be level, or worse, tilting into your dwelling. Window ACs are meant to be installed with a slight grade tilting out of the window towards the ground (the part of the AC you see in the room should be slightly tilted towards the ceiling) so the draining of water sucked out of your room drips outside and not in. You have probably installed your unit with the tilt angled into your room rather than towards the ground outside.

This was one of the hardest and most frustrating installations I've ever completed. My window is not like either window here, in that I live in a 100 year old house where new windows were fitted inside the old window boxes, so I simply could not complete several steps in the instructions - additionally my siding outside made it impossible to get level AND make contact with the wall, so the air conditioner is tilted inward a wee bit, and leaks the condensation water all over my floor. The AC itself is great, but the installation is hell and if I can't stop it leaking, I will have to return it.

Another issue I had as I’m renting an apartment in a very old house 100 years old. The house is not grounded I had to have a GFCI installed and this Media 8000 tripped the outlet ever single time the compressor kicked on. I then bought an LG Wi-Fi enabled 8000btu and now I’m not having problems and it runs very quiet. That’s all I wanted something to cool me down without listening to a bunch of racket. I wanted the Media to work for me but it has to be returned.

If the wall outside your window is slanted (rather than strictly parallel to the window), the support arms will prevent the bracket from sitting properly due to the way they are designed. Beware. The lower bracket that has to be screwed to the sides of the window is adjustable only in 1/2 inch increments. If it doesn’t happen to fit your window you’ll have to rig something to make it fit. A serious design flaw that is not addressed in this video, which assumes that the bracket will just magically fit. On my second unit. I’m am extremely unimpressed. Don’t get me wrong, it is a beautiful unit and looks great with my windows, however, it does not cool my room enough. I installed this unit in my living room and it does not seem to do a very good job cooling it. It was so bad, there were days when I had to turn on a fan just to stop sweating and I sit about 3 to 4 feet away from the air conditioner. It was so bad, I thought the one I received was defective so I asked for a replacement. To put things in perspective, yesterday in New York, it was a high of 92° so I kept my air conditioner on all day. I left around 4pm and came back around 8pm. Although the living room felt a little bit cooler, it should’ve been far more colder considering that the air conditioner was on for over 10 hours. I had high hopes because it is a 12,000 BTU unit, however, my 8000 BTU Frigidaire seems to do a better job of cooling my living room when it’s not in the living room. I read somewhere, that the AC is supposed to get stronger, the hotter it is outside. That has not been my experience. I wish it gave an option of full power. I get that they want it to be quiet, but I would definitely prefer more noise for a cold room. Might be good for a small bedroom but definitely not 550 ft.².
