Alien Soup Not really. The government cannot create the value that the billion dollars represents. When they overprint a billion dollars in paper money, they’re still not creating value, but are actually stealing value from people through devaluation of the currency.
@Boogey Man That's not her argument, and I don't think anyone has ever said that. The argument is that Bill Gates does not work for his money, which is true. He does do some work, but it is utterly incidental to his finances. If he sat on his butt for the past ten years his wealth would have continued to rise at the exact same rate, since his money comes from the fact that he owns the company. Other people at Microsoft build computers and create new innovations and Bill Gates takes a cut because he's the owner.
The fact that he did some great work coding and selling computers thirty years ago doesn't change this fact. And it doesn't change the fact that his wealth continues to rise while a lot of the people who actually do the work at Microsoft today see their wages stagnate and have to rely on government assistance in order to pay rent and feed themselves, since Gates and the other owners would rather line their own pockets than sufficiently pay the people who put them where they are. Microsoft depends on these employees, and would never have become what it is today without them, but apparently that's not enough to warrant Bill Gates and co paying these people enough to survive. You don't have to hate the rich, or think they're lasy, in order to find this kind of system morally objectionable.
@Boogey Man I mean, he literally doesn't work for it. His wealth and income is not dependant upon him going into Microsoft and doing something productive. He can sit at home and play Fortnight and his net worth will continue to rise at the same rate. You can argue that he deserves his wealth due to risk (although I'd still disagree) but you can't seriously claim that in 2020 Bill Gates works for his income.
Bernie Sanders personally giving more money in taxes would not solve any of the problems that he wants to deal with. It would be a completely meaningless gesture. The problems in society can only be solved by pooling our collective wealth together, which is what he wants to do. I can also guarantee that he currently pays a higher percentage in tax than any of the billionaires you are currently defending.
Boogey Man what’s amazing is that Bill gates has generally aligned with the left (well, center-left, let’s be fair) on the issues. I think guys like him underrate how much they hate him, and overrate how capable they are of doing anything besides getting other people’s money.
At least Andrew Yang proposes some real policy prescriptions, unless the rest of these clowns.

It’s gotten 87-80% cheaper due to free markets and competition, and the quality has still gotten better. Funny how things become cheaper yet still higher quality in free markets, and that socialist countries stagnate.
Arthur Morgan also, before you reply with the Nordic Country socialism, we’ve been the ones paying their defense budget for the past couple years now, because they can’t afford it. They’ve started considering more right wing policies to rectify their money problems. Socialism doesn’t work, if the history of free markets vs other economic practices has anything to say about it.

It's successful businessmen and women who create the job opportunities for the majority of the citizens. If you drive them out with high taxes and over regulation, you will be destroying job opportunities, thus less workers with good income, thus less sources of tax revenue from said workers.

The problem is those "job opportunities" dont pay a living wage anymore and everything gets more expensive overtime while wages do not increase. But yet the 1% see record growth.

Then couple that with high tax rates on everything and the lowee income people dont make a profit at all. In Texas 10 dollars an hour depending on where you live can cover rent and bills with food. Money will be tight but we don't tax the shit out of the people. We actually dont even have personal income taxes. We run the state off of business taxes.

No one is saying that entrepreneurs shouldn't make more money than average workers, but the difference in earnings these days is SHOCKING. CEOs make 278 times more than an AVERAGE worker, not even the lowest paid employee! This ratio used to be 20:1 in 1965 and 58:1 in 1989. Were entrepreneurs underpaid in 1989? Did that stop innovation in 1989? The greed is UNBELIEVABLE!

Amazon does alot more than just tv a shipping, especially in the world of managing servers for other companies. So you've very likely used services made possible by both companies without realizing it.

Resi R you might be right. I would only argue that economically their work is more valuable for the company. That’s why they get paid so much. If everyone can do you job then you’ll get paid less for it. Most able bodied people can do physical labor. But not every is intelligent enough to run global companies and be responsible for them.

@@theconservativeliberal6967 well it's about proportion, isn't it. For example, Jeff Bezos does some very important work for Amazon, since he helps run the whole thing. He should therefore earn more than the guy who drives the delivery van. However, I think we can all agree that, while he's important, Jeff Bezos has not done $150bn worth of work for Amazon.
He gains that money because he owns Amazon, not because of his work, and yet the people who actually do do the work at Amazon today, and create the value from which he benefits, often have to rely upon government assistance in order to eat, since Bezos doesn't pay them enough. It's a system that rewards ownership, rather than work. The people who own the company are incentivised to screw over the people whos' work they benefit from, since that helps keep margins wide and profits high. That's part of what a lot of anti-capitalists that I know find to be so morally objectable.

Without Jeff Bezos there is no Amazon. Intelligence is rewarded more than physical labor (that’s kind of the way we want it; the smart hard working people succeed). Most smart hard working people can’t even get a start up off the ground.
The difficulty of creating one of the most successful companies in the world vs physical labor are almost not even comparable. & again your market value is determined by yours skills and if everyone can do your job then $15 hr it is. When very few can’t then you’re market value is worth more.
The reason why he makes so much is because the company is so successful. In order to make that much money you have to useful and help people. I also don’t think it’s in a company’s best interest to screw over their workers. Why? You’ll attract less talented people that will increase the value of the company. If anything, the more you benefit others the more they want to work for you.
As for ownership, you have to look at all the work it took to own it. Risk is also involved because worst case scenario you lose your job (Amazon is fine) but without Bezos it’s quite possible it could lose the company billions. Maybe the person managing billions of dollars, that has his and everyone who works at Amazon’s livelihood in his hands, who decisions could make or break it should be paid the max. You’ve got to pay them so they keep being the best.
Lastly, if we really don’t like how much he makes we can just stop using Amazon. But it’s so useful we wouldn’t dare do such a thing. The billions are justified.

There's lots of little bits of irony in this joke. But the most important philosophical point is that it's not just the labor that is paid for its the difference in human capital and experience. A OC's mistake is assuming that all workers, business owners, entrepreneurs are equal in ability and experience. But they most certainly are not.
