Thanks to Korngold-and other Warner Bros "pros" -the studio could make the sweeping epics that were previously the territory of MGM and Paramount... Whether we are in: Sherwood Forest, on the Spanish Main, Tudorian England, Juarista Mexico-Korngold's rich romantic music is majestic.rousing and at times heartfelt and sad Thanks for posting! This one of the best recordings of this film's soundtrack have heard in some time...
There's no such thing as a bad Korngold score. He's up there with the best of the handful of great Hollywood composers.
That opening scene music when Essex enters is so regal. A perfect fit for the joyous greeting. Korngold at his BEST!
A showcase of Korngold's fascination with Romance, History and Power!
GREAT QUALITY SOUND CONSIDERING THIS WAS A 1939 FILM...KORNGOLD NEVER MISSED.....

MGM? Herbert Stothart’s music was so syrupy and sickenly sentimental. Can’t even compare Korngold, Steiner, and Newman for starters
GREAT ROMANTIC SCORE BY KORNGOLD WITH BETTE AND ERROL.WHAT NOT TO LIKE ?
I think this score gets a bit overlooked compared to 'Adventures of Robin Hood' and 'The Sea Hawk'. It's an impressive score again by Korngold.
Don't forget Kings Row
Expresses and communicates Romantic values and sensibilities. It is art because one is inspired to study in order to understand it more deeply.
Great music
Korngold rules
Davis & Flynn ......!!!!!!!
Agree
Absolutely the tops. Korngold rules. As good as "The Sea Hawk". Now I'm back to preparing a performance of Bach-B Minor Mass, quite a switch, eh?
To me, it's reminiscent of the Star Wars themes.
More accurate to say the Star Wars themes are reminiscent of Elizabeth and Essex that came decades earlier.
If you want to hear the Star Wars theme, go check Korngold's "Kings Row" main theme.
This actually was the soundtrack that inspired Korngold to compose his symphony, which inspired John Williams to compose the Star Wars soundtrack.
Closer to Star Wars than
Kings Row .
Simply majestic bravo Korngold
