It had been at his house for YEARS!!! He was glad I took it. I did bring a 6pack when we we loading it up!
Sugarcane mulch on top of the garden beds is a better option because other mulch products have chemicals in them. I would say that plants and soil will filter out chemicals as best as they can however, sugarcane mulch is a way better option. You can grow it yourself, dry it out and turn it into mulch. The beauty of sugar cane is that it grows really fast which keeps up with your needs.

One way to save on dressing with top soil is to fill the bottom with felled tree limbs from the fall on you property (they decompose slowly adding humus to the beds over time, and retain water during hot spells) the German-speaking mountain lands (Switzerland / Austria) call it *hugelkultur*

Add a couple bags of compost to each bed. Mix it into the dirt. The plants will enjoy it. You’ll enjoy the harvest. 👍👍

Exactly how I made my raised beds! Good job mate! Then my wife decided she didn't want them anymore and they went and I reseeded the lawn where they'd been and then she said she didn't want a lawn anymore so it was dug up and a winding gravel path laid and edged, and now it's just large borders with more plants than you can shake a stick at! Obviously, my garden is somewhat smaller than yours! I tend to having nothing to do with our garden anymore! 🤣

Get some wood chips (most tree trimming places give them away) and put them around the boxes for her to walk on without getting her shoes muddy.
