I think it's supposed to be Sudatcher, because that's how the japanese pronounce it and also would be a mix of Suda and Snatcher, and with that Transfaring thing you mentioned later, that sounds like something these two would come up with.
Metal Gear Rising was, humorously enough, the first Metal Gear game I played. Why? Because it got a PC port. I was a Nintendo kid growing up, and then mostly switched to PC master race gaming at a certain point in my life. But Rising got me interested enough in Metal Gear that I bought a PS3 (even though, at this point, the PS4 was already out, it wouldn't do because Sony decided fuck backwards compatibility) and got the Legacy Collection, and spent a whole summer addicted to the franchise.
Almost 2 months late, but I want to add something. A lot of the crazy funny Japanese writing could be attributed to the localization studio 8-4. In one of their podcasts discussing their work, they mentioned how they made the text fit in with the style of game they were going for. The brief AR text pop up when Raiden meets Armstrong for the first time and he says to "check the news" was inspired by the layout of Neogaf posts because back then they visited the site often. Also, did you know the DOOMP joke is only present in the English version, its a dry exposition dump in the Japanese version. 8-4 might not have written it, but they most certainly made the flavor.
MGR is great on higher difficulties than normal. I liked doing it without using the rations that autoheal you since it really helped make stuff like the zandatsu mechanics and the bossfights shine. I wouldn't go anywhere near comparing it to something like Kingdom Hearts 2, it's up there with the best of the character action games.

I play Bayonetta like a fighting game. I think it lends itself to fighting game players more than DMC's weird Hold R1 to do stuff. Bayo's freedom is exhilarating. The issue is that Bayo has an amazing dodge mechanic with a rewarding dopamine hit with Witch Time, while Rising's parry never feels good or even all that rewarding. You kind of have to trust shit is going to work and look godlike by complete accident over and over again. "Well, that happened. Sweet.' defines Rising. Not entirely a bad thing, tbh... kind of fits the tone lol.
I hope we get domething like metal gear rising again. Wether its a sequel or a game indspired by it. It was just too epic. Gameplay wise and character wise. I loved it
Snatcher is great. If you're ever going to play a point and click game, it might as well be Snatcher. Policenauts also. Basically if you like either Metal Gear or Blade Runner, these should both be right up your alley.
Yeah, Rising was kind of a symptom of where the MGS series had found itself by this point, politically as well as tonally. For me, the gameplay was a bit less of a transition as I'd played Madworld and Bayonetta beforehand, so was kind of used to the flippage-cuttery. As for being a parody of the mainline games, I guess it is, sorta, but not by much! That makes both Rising and the core series awesome in tandem, in my opinion. But I guess the whole thing showed how politics could be or go in games - no series has been as intentional or as flippant as that one in that regard. Anyway, I'm waffling. Great vid as always. This series is one of your channel's greatest achievements! I'd suggest you check out Snatcher if you can. You've played Policenauts I think, so you know what to expect in the boobage and creepiness factor, but it's still worth a play nonetheless. I knew about the audio drama one but not that Suda was on it. That fact has pushed me to check it out. Thanks!
It’s kind of wild that 9/11 happened in the mgs universe I mean it kind of seems tame compared to Arsenal gear leveling half of Manhattan a few years later
Yeah, the fact that 9/11 happened in this universe kinda retroactively makes Liquid's motivations in MGS1 seem a little weird, what with him apparently trying to restore war to "a world gone soft", even though, ya know, the war on terror was a thing that was happening at the same time (and yes, I know the game came out 3 years before 9/11, but still).
Etsu Tamari’s original Solid Rising script was amazing according to its localizer (and Revengeance’s localizer) twitter.com/nickroxnrx/status/1113269605059817472?s=21

I'm one of those DMC wombo combo enthusiast (on the low tier) and this game is really basic and easy. You can spam the parry for 99% of the game, secondary weapons are terribly implemented, there's little variety of normal enemies, reused boss fights near the end... In any hack and slash you can just spam normal attack the whole time, they're always as deep as you want them to be, there's more enemy variety than DMC3 (and much less bullshit,) pretty much every hack and slash reuses boss fights.
sdatcher would probably be written as 'スダッチャー' in japanese, and スダ is Suda. Dude likes dumb wordplay, even the 51 in his name is because his real name is goichi suda, or 5 1 suda
I really like your videos but really not a fan of your politics. That doesn’t mean you should shut up about them. Just figured I’d observe my own observation of both my enjoyment of your work alongside my disagreement with a number of your perspectives. All in all I like this series. Keep it up.
His.. politics? What? Thor is, by the pisspoor standard of modern op-eds on vidya, hilarioisly professional about injecting such stuff. If you're triggered by Thor's tact then fucking everyone must piss you off.

great vid, nice to hear you get more explicitly political, armstrong is imo a randian objectivist, which i only really realised when you made the libertarian analogy... ignore the right wing snowflakes 😂

Keep it in your pants, or don't, it's not like I'll be watching your next video. I'm all out of free passes, after the obnoxious political remarks and digs in previous videos.
Ah yes, Metalgear Rising Revegance -shudders- the game that had such awful writing, pacing and voice acting that it crushed whatever enjoyment I could have gotten from the gameplay. Metal Gear was always jumping sharks with transforming robot anime girls, but MG:RR takes it to an extreme that I cannot even say is so bad it is good. Scenes like the "I can hear the thoughts of the PMCs" and you had to limp around with the character feeling sorry for them, nah mate... maybe pull that shit BEFORE revealing that they are abducting and torturing children. Maybe don't have the normal asinine combat voice lines playing at the same time. Or just let me hack them all up. It and DmC actively made me irritated while playing them, but MG:RR was worse... because at least it's core gameplay wasn't a complete joke. Oh and those Codec calls that lock you into an area with an invisible wall... then you have to traverse the level for another 2-4 minutes after the 2-4 minute codec call ends (remembering one directly after blade wolf). And don't get me wrong, I love me some absurdist japanese writing... But MG:RR was just dumb, heck there is over 30minutes of talking cutscenes at the end with Armstrong (I recorded it for a review of my own back in the day)
I dunno honestly. Only castlevania game I've played is 64, so I'd feel kinda weird dipping into bloodstained without at least trying one of the 2d vanias. But it looks like a great game for sure.

sdatcher would probably be written as 'スダッチャー' in japanese, and スダ is Suda. Dude likes dumb wordplay, even the 51 in his name is because his real name is goichi suda, or 5 1 suda
Swery69 lol
MGS 3 sold like ass? It sold 4 million copies.
the 3ds version
ThorHighHeels Oh my bad man sorry. I thought you were talking about the PS2 version.
@@audiosurfarchive Nah, honestly its pretty rare. Like 99 percent of the time thor is fine but every once in awhile he isn't. - I suspect when it comes to stuff like this, those that agree with the creator in questuon tend to not notice the small stuff or even fully register it.
I've noticed my more progressive friends tend to take note of stuff that I would have never considered to be a marker of political conservatism or right leaning stuff on channels or videos that I otherwise think of as apolitical.
@@cyphermasq7870 I feel that. Cheers bruv.
@@audiosurfarchive thanks you as well!

great vid, nice to hear you get more explicitly political, armstrong is imo a randian objectivist, which i only really realised when you made the libertarian analogy... ignore the right wing snowflakes 😂
i thought you ended this 2 acts ago, but you keep pulling metal gears out of nowhere. wtf
Trump being far right? Nah fam, you dropped the ball on that one. He is the most anti-war president that country has seen in decades too. I think people compare Armstrong to Trump not because they are alike, but because they are so meme-able.
Didn't he Threatened to nuke north Korea tho
@@bast01 Weeeell, true, but Kim started it.
@@Bilaros93 but that doesn't look like something a anti-war person would say
Ah yes, anti-war president with more bombings in Afghanistan and Syria
@@bast01 I don't know man, when people threaten you with nuclear war, I don't think it's pro-war to warn them that you have better nuclear capabilities than them.
MGR has one of the easier parry mechanics ever and he had trouble with it.... big yikes.
Many ppl had, to the point of it even becoming a meme. The game explains it poorly, like I said. No need to be a bitch about it bro
He says keeping politics out of games is cowardly and then proceeds to make insufferably political commentary about ideologies he doesn't like, thereby proving exactly why we all agree to not talk about politics in the first place. Keep it in your pants, or don't, it's not like I'll be watching your next video. I'm all out of free passes, after the obnoxious political remarks and digs in previous videos.
Bye bitch
But MG:RR was just dumb, heck there is over 30minutes of talking cutscenes at the end with Armstrong (I recorded it for a review of my own back in the day)
Do you have plans to ever look at Bloodstained in a video? I would love to hear what you think about both games.
I dunno honestly. Only castlevania game I've played is 64, so I'd feel kinda weird dipping into bloodstained without at least trying one of the 2d vanias. But it looks like a great game for sure.
