- Musicians Rick Parfitt (1948 - 2016) and Francis Rossi from the English band Status Quo tell the story behind 'Down Down'. A short documentary by Top 2000 a gogo from 2002 (Dutch Public Television).
RIP Rick. The music will last forever. These gran still rocks on your music. O yeahhhh.

The transformation of their 60's persona to this rocker was shocking, but oh so wonderful.
But it was crap what they said about ripping jeans and muddying plimsolls.
All they did was grow their hair and start wearing denim & tee shirts.
@@CB-xr1eg yep, and they were no 'rebel' pioneers either. They just followed the trends. In 1969, it all went like that. They were copycats. They do the road house boogie nicely though, and this song and another around the period, have nice melodic bits in the middle. Oh..and Pictures of Matchstick men is a gem.
Status Quo speelde een paar jaar geleden op Retropop, nu Hellofestival, en hoewel ik niet echt fan was, vind ik het dat optreden nog steeds een van de beste ooit.
Saw them at Hammersmith in 85, their 25th anniversary. I screamed my throat raw for this tune from the first row of the balcony between songs (even though they'd play it anyway) I swear Parfitt pointed to me and launched into it. They're a hit jukebox sort of band, but as a 16yo that was a cool moment.
My ex hubbys fav band and to be honest they grew on me over time.

Quo *used to rule* but hey haven't done so for a long time. I agree with you about Roll Over Lay Down, one of my favourite Quo songs.

Nah, that;s not the reason. Rossi just skips the words because that bit it's too high for his voice these days. Quo still plays this song in the same key as on the record when they all were much younger. Your voice lowers with the years going by.
This song is used in Australia to advertise the Coles supermarkets.

@@pauljk4280 Rick's attitude was probably due to the fact that Rossi was writing country flavoured songs and not rock songs.
How does that work? Rick took it for granted. John was simply not a good musician and Alan tried to take charge, wrote awful songs (Big Man!) and then tried to continue without Francis. Francis took the band, got the ball rolling and delivered over 30 yrs of good rock music. I think I'll still with his ego.

It has now been transformed into the most annoying advertising jungle in Australian history for one of the two mega supermarket chains called Coles.

Until they stopped using it they tortured staff by playing it continuously in their stores.

Francis never mentions Rick anymore. As if he never existed. He must have hated him.

Last time I saw Quo was beginning of summer 2016, a couple of weeks after Rick suffered a heart attack in Turkey. Francis didnt even mention him once and gave the spotlight to Richie Malone, 137 Irish jokes included.

Why should he? His death is the past and he clearly prefers to look to the future. Perhaps it upsets him more. Perhaps he doesn't want to mention Rick's selfishness in his lifestyle, which eventually killed him.
Plenty of interviews on youtube with Rossi about Parfitt. Check them out, than you'll have your answer.
Aaaand Coles Australia turned this song into one of the most annoying songs on the planet.
