The fact that he is so opposed to fighting Chandler and Conor, and wants to fight real contenders like Charles and Beniel, just goes to show that he is motivated by legacy more than money. He could easily have a 2 million PPV fight with Conor.

Nope this is his peak. He can barely make 155 and mma is evolving towards understanding the sambo style is just advanced hand fighting with judoka techniques. If he goes up, he will fight real wrestlers unlike lightweight division which has no wrestling. If he stays at lightweight, he will get chinny or possibly lose to Volk in rematch.

Islam is about to get picked apart in his net couple of fights. Volk gave the blueprint for how to beat him.
He needed Khabib in his corner but this is a huge learning curve for him. If he can hang with and get the decision over a great like volk without Khabib there he’s gonna be okay from now on.

Guy was gassing in 4th and 5th, guy would get man handled if he goes up to Usman or Colby, they will eat this guy easy. He ain't strong or has great gas tank. Volk exposed him. But still in 155lbs, I don't see anyone who can beat him except Conor ( only because Conor has a power punch, if Conor catches Islam it's done), but Conor only has a punchers chance only, Islam wins over all current 155lbs.

sadly it always will be a language barrier because islam‘s english is limited to some same phrases. but in russian he is more clear, polite and respectful. but as a native speaker i confirm that he has a very realistic view on everything what happened.

The 2nd round the judges for some reason picked control time (with zero damage and zero submission threat) over more damage being done. It is very clear that Volk did more damage in rounds 2, 3 and 5 and did more total damage in the fight.
Volk deserved to win, but its not the first bad decision. It was a close fight still, but zero doubt that Volk did more damage and shouldve had win.

Islam beat Olivera become champ who cleared out the division with 11 fight win streak and has the most finishes in UFC history, then ONLY 4 months later challenges and goes on to beat the champ p4p best fighter in the world in his back yard with a 12 fight win streak. Beast 👏

Russian part:
1) He said that everyone was expecting him to win as if Volk is some random street fighter. Whereas Islam had known it was going to be tough and this fight brought a lot of use to him. Volk’s stance is unconventional.
2) He also said that usually they had 36 hours after weight cut to fight while here it was only 24 hours.
3) similar to Q1. Volk is great and Islam also decided to have a punch up.
And that Volk tried to make some moves to get Islam to the ground including the last round.
4) when Khabib called “when you got the back why didn’t you move up?”. So i missed Khabib in that sense as you need someone to shout from the corner and give timely advice like that.
I did win but I will repeat that the more time for recovery - the better (referring to 24 hours instead of 36h).
5) Volk would probably be a very big test for all the other lightweights in the division as Volk is VERY tough and takes punches and keeps going. A hard nut.
Volk defended well and Islam had tough fights in the past so he needs such fights as he trains so long and then submits someone in a few minutes. While here he got so many positives and such an experience from a long fight like that. He needed that.
Volk didn’t properly knock him down but Volk did connect in the 5th properly and Islam felt it.
Islam slipped in the 3rd round, not a knockdown. Need to review as definitely not a knockdown.
And if you missed it, Islam repeated the modest “best fighter in the world right now” 😂

It was a nerveracking and spectacular super fight! They did an amazing fight. Islam won the fight for 100%, he just was not lucky on the 5th round and missed a big punch which made to lose the round, but at the end Islam earned the win! Respect to Islam taking the fight and handling the big pressure on his shoulder and stress. To fight with 145 pound champ in the enemy territory is a big pressure and mental stress. It was a big pressure for Islam because his belt was on the line. Volk wouldn't lose anything just the name "N#1 P4P king"! Thanks to both champs!
Glad Islam isn't getting a ton of hate after this. I think alot of people now realize how insanely well rounded his skillset actually is on both the ground and the feet. He and Volk tonight both showed why both of them are the best in the UFC roster at the moment.

I was behind Volk and I really wanted him to have this fight so I'm disappointed. But this fight was the highest level of MMA I've ever seen. These guys have both proven that other opponents they may face don't stand a chance.

Yair is an interim titleholder now in FW and shouldnt have to wait for too long. If Islam fights volk in summer again then yair will have to wait any longer.

If you rewatch again, I meant, rewatch it properly and counting everything, Islam won round 1,2,3 and 4. And if you cut out the last two minutes of last round (I know thats not how it wo4k, just to say if you cut the last two minutes of round 5), the score could be 50-45. Islam won by his striking, and Volk wrestling was phenomenal, that was one a superfight in UFC history. Super close.
Honestly same review. Islam won all four pounds and he's the one also advancing in the 5th but not after Alex got on top for the last minute.

For sure plus they called for the fight in volks backyard and had to deal with 50 thousand fans booing him and cheering the roof off even if volk landed a simple jab. He had a tonne of pressure from a million angles. Everyone knew he had everything to lose and volk had only things to gain regardless.

This fight was incredible, I honestly didnt know if Volk could hang with Islam before the fight, and these guys both fought the best fight of their careers lastnight, Islam jus had a little more success all over. I thought Volk was gna cause some REAL problems with standup, due to his speed, explosiveness, reach, and cardio... But Islam I think caught and rocked Volk more, and had more ultimate success in the stand up than ppl thought... And most of us Expected Islam to absolutely dominate in the grappling and wrestling, and Volk honestly not only held his own, got on his feet repeatedly, he actually had Islam on his back at the end.. These boys both shocked the whole community with how this played out, Volk left NO question about his Ability, and Islams ability to fight at that pace, for all 5 rounds, and to pull it out after such a hard fought 5 rounds was equally as impressive... Im fr jus Impressed as HELL at both of these dudes, and Islam MAY have snaked out that #1 lb for lb title from Volk, Buuutttt... They both deserve those top spots IMHO, Not many ppl expected Volk to hang with, hurt, and have that success against Islam, BUT, Islam also showed some heart, ability to adjust and to adapt in the face of adversity and fought thru every sec of that to pull out the win. This fight is instantly Timeless, I am a huge fan of BOTH guys, and as a fan I couldn't be happier for BOTH men the way this turned out.

@@GucciGengar. yes it’s finding the openings and entering for those submissions. Having someone at your corner watching for those much less a world renown sambo/ufc champion brother. Taking the technical and outlook positions guess work out. Khabib could just read Islam like a book with his eyes closed knowing exactly what position he wanted to take and where to take it, khabib will just capitalize on advanced positions to get better opportunities and Islam on control to basically have the position take place. You saw in this fight Islam had actually controlled Volk get him down without threatening a submission, I knew it was going to be a interesting outplay of scenarios without not to many people want to point out for khabib absence.

The fight was very close, respect to both fighters.
Even-though Islam won, people were expecting more from him. Thats why people aren’t happy.
Yet, the disadvantages that Islam had were:
1. Fight happened in Alex’s home arena. Impacts fighter mentally.
2. Khabib wasn’t in his corner
3. He tried to fight on standing, not on ground.
4. He had less time for recovery after the weight cut than usual.
5. Alex wasn’t an easy like his previous opponents.
Those who are saying, highway robbery, stfu and swallow the pill that Islam clearly won three of the five rounds.
