MV Hebrides to Mull

  • With disruption rife throughout the Calmac network over the past few months the usual winter annual overhaul program was pushed back, leaving the Uig triangle vessel MV Hebrides to be one of the last to receive an overhaul, however with the overhaul complete and on her way back up to Skye it was decided to send her to Oban for a few days to cover sailings around the Western Isles, and it just so happened that I was in town for the time that she was there.
The original plan had been to sail on her to Colonsay as that was her original destination, however a switch in vessels saw the Isle of Mull heading for Colonsay and the Hebrides for Mull, so it was to Craignure I headed! After a blustery crossing we arrived at Mull where after a little wait another rare vessel for these waters arrived in the form of the paddle steamer Waverley, after berthing at Craignure and offloading passengers she made her way back to Oban via a cruise on Loch Linnhe, after her departure another rare vessel appeared on Mull as the regular Lismore ferry Loch Striven arrived looking for an overnight berth as the Waverley would be occupying her usual one at the North Pier. Not too long after the Striven was alongside the sight of Hebrides loomed into view as she berthed at the Mull port before I boarded her for a lovely sunset sailing back to Oban.
    Thanks for Watching!

I really loved watching this video. My brother worked with Calmac vessals out of Oban for years until he took a brain haemorrhage in the galley in January 2010. What lovely views he saw every day must have been the best job in the world for him. Wish I could get a hold of this footage for personal use. His family would love it. Absolutely brilliant movie of the Oban to Mull run.

Love this video so much never in a million years. I expected her to work along with MV Loch Frisa. I was good to see her using her a stern ramp at Craignure that's the way it should be as MV Isle of Mull using her blow ramp which I think looks out of place should be other way round.
