By the way, there's a branch of physics that deals with weaving. I knew someone who had a concentration in it; she came from a family of textile workers. My physics professor said it's a high-paying field.
In most cases, téng and tòng are interchangeable. e.g. headache: tóuténg 头疼 or tóutòng头痛. The subtle difference is that téng also means love (or sorry) dearly. e.g. 心疼xīnténg. 我心疼他Wǒ xīnténg tā. I care about him dearly. If it is painful mentally or psychological, tòng is more often used. e.g, 痛心疾首 tòngxīnjíshǒu extremely regrettable. Hope that helps.
