I think Alex’s figures would be super cute scattered around the house, popping out from behind a plant or peeking over a basket rim, etc. Nothing obvious or in your face but definitely inclusive of the things he enjoys, in a whimsical way. I bet he would really appreciate it too. Have a wonderful day!
I would display Alex's stuff out, maybe display near his desk or where he keeps his thiings since it will make him happy. Who cares what anyone thinks, it's your house
I am a confirmed owner of DVD's and CD's no subscriptions. I really enjoy listening to albums from start to finish rather than skipping from one track or artist to another
We started doing this with CDs and it’s so nice. Its making me enjoy listening to music again because we have to make a conscious effort to buy CDs that we like and then actually listen to them.
In case you need an idea to use the dried chickpeas - homemade falafel taste best when made from dried chickpeas; most online recipes for them will even ask for dried rather than tinned! I highly recommend, really elevates their taste to the next level :)
I love a declutter especially Spring and Autumn, when you’re in the middle of it you think “why did I start this”. However it is so satisfying when you’re finished. 🧡🍁🍄🟫🍂🐿️
I did not know that about coconuts or cashews! I am going to do a Sept reset too. I always feel like I should be buying pencils and pens for going back to school at this time of year. I'm 48😅😊
I wonder in those drawers if you could put the jars in and label the lids of the jars so you could see everything when you pull the drawer out even if you find jars that were a hair smaller. and then the top shelves just put things in plastic containers that you can pull forward and see everything all at once Just love that fall is coming and we’re getting to see all your adventures. Thanks for sharing.❤
This! I did this with My cleaning supplies and labeled everything from above (as there are few sprays, bottles etc) and now it’s so much easier to use and find. Would absolutely do that with jars too if I had pantry stuff 😄 everything’s that’s in the back doesn’t exist for me
For displaying stuff: what we did is that we each have our office, that is our "no compromise room" where decorate exactly as we want, so everything the other doesn't like goes in that room 🙂
Dear Olivia, I'm from Sri Lanka and there are a lot of coconut estates in my village too, but we never use monkeys for coconut picking and this is the first time that I'm aware of this matter. So, I'm pretty sure about non involvement of monkeys for coconut picking in SL. Your vlogs are really interesting and we enjoy them a lot. Thank you.
This is so wonderful to hear! The coconut milk I showed was from Sri Lanka. I think that most of this seems to be happening in Thailand from my research. It’s something that seems to be murky depending where supermarkets selling coconut milk are getting them from!
Are those dried black beans? Try black bean soup! So delicious and freezes wonderfully so you can make a big batch. (I too have fallen victim to the dream of dried beans and then desperately needed to use them up. 😅)
We like to sprinkle nerdy stuff around the house in kind of a hidden way. Like on a bookshelf peaking out from behind a piece of pottery, resting in the pot of a plant partly concealed by the leaves, or hidden in a cupboard that you open frequently, so it kind of greets you as you open it. We know they’re there, and it makes our guests smile or giggle whenever they spot one. We try to have fun with it and make it the best of both vibes. 🩷
Putting up fall decor and about to seriously declutter my home. So much to go thru. Sort of feel overwhelmed. One room at a time I suppose... excited for all the fall activities. Anyone know if All Creatures Great and small airs soon? Keep forgetting to look it up. Have a beautiful week Everyone ❤❤❤❤❤
As a woman, I have a lot of Funko Pops. My home is really industrial and mid-century modern style and in my office I have one wall full of bookshelves that is a library and I've put my Funko figures there. I have them all in their boxes though, I display them like that. I don't think it ruins "the vibe", even though I'm really specific in my style. My partner is also a nerd and he has similar things too, so there is no issue to display his things in his office as well. But I like the shared spaces to be clean from Funkos. We have all our vinyls and more books in the living room. The styling of our home was a shared experience, it's an aesthetic we both love, a nice mix of masculine and feminine. I would never want to oppress my partner in any way, just because his aesthetic might not match mine.
Very satisfying to watch, well done Maddie ❤. My partner collected tiny cars and wanted to have them around the house, i really didn’t love the idea and did say that it’s just more things to have to dust, I said, however, if he wanted to take up the dusting, then ok, amazingly he decided infact they were fine displayed in a cupboard 😂xx
I cleaned the fridges at the weekend , felt so much better after doing it plus not too much wasted . All the kitchen draws cupboards and pantry cleaned and sorted a couple of weeks ago due to cupboards being resprayed looks so much better and makes me feel good
Good hack for for decanting (? I’m not sure how it’s spelled) is to get a mug/bowl and first put old stuff there, new in the jar and then old on top. My friend did this and said the stuff on the bottom became always still as it’s the oldest stuff that never got to be used, as new always gets on top.
I have an old home and we love to decorate it well. But my husband also loves the pops and has his collections! I found a great solution. I found an amazing old city office cupboard and added some soft led lights inside. That is his pop/comics/vinil armoire. When he is in the room he loves to open it and chose an album and appreciate his collections. And then he can shut it all inside for protection and a more suited decor. Please dont feel bad: it is not a men vs women problem. I discovered that as a knitter and sewer I also dont leave my sewing machines and balls of yarn and stuff exposed arround the house 😅 home decor should be about a middle ground for both that also respects the home and the comfort, (also visual comfort). Not everything should or has to be exposed! Plus make seasonal events when those collections can be intentionally exposed, like a game party or a vinil party or a pop figures party 😅😊
I don't know if this is helpful, but my mom cooks dried beans in the slow cooker in advance and then freezes them in containers. That way they're ready to add to any recipe when you need them just like canned beans! Truth be told though, I also just buy canned beans because it's more convenient haha
Love decluttering. Some how though, I can't let go of my favorite vinyl, cd's and DVD's. I even have a few cassette tapes that I can't play anymore, wish I had a tape player. They used to get gobbled up by the tape player and I would wind them back in with a pencil. The great thing about vinyl or a cd is that you can enjoy the whole album without having to pay to avoid adverts.
Wow thank you for the information on coconut oil and cashews- I will be mindful of that ❤ My husband wanted a Star Trek spaceship hanging from the ceiling! I said no- it wouldn’t look cool 😂 Yes there are so many subscriptions- you have to be strong and say NO ! Lovely vlog. Thank you ❤
We decided that our office/spare room will be the place where we display some Pokémon funkopops, we hung a dart board etc. like this our living room stays clear and we have a little hobby room 😊
My husband is into warhammer tabletop gaming and he has loooads of figurines. I dont personally like the vibe either 😅 the nicely painted figurines are in glass display cabinets in the conservatory and the misc items are in the ikea kalax storage with nice boxes so it looks neat and tidy for aesthetic reasons 😂❤its a win for both of us
You are right about DVD's and collections coming back around. I sell them part-time and the #1 reason I hear from my buyers is--"they've just got to have it in case streaming ends or removes said movie or show someday." You do look very Pride and Prejudice today. The music for this video, swoonworthy. It gave me Downton Abbey vibes, esp. since it was playing during your tidying.. My husband has always had that kind of stuff and we've solved that by buying floating shelves and he gets a corner in our bedroom and our home office to display his figurines. He's almost 50 and I don't see it ever stopping. He's happy with the arrangement and that makes me happy. Another lovely video--thanks for sharing!
In terms of Alex's figures: your passion (cooking, gardening) seems to take quite a lot of your shared living space. I think it's only fair to let Alex keep the figures where and how he wants:)
Totally aok with the other person's collection because chances are they don't like my goodies either so it's a balance. This reset is revving me up to do one too!
Hi Maddie! Love your videos, so relaxing. Just a tip for the jars: add the expiration date in a label. Time passes by so fast and sometimes it’s hard to keep track of these things. ❤
Haha my husband has his boy stuff, but we have a room that serves as his office / guest room which only gets used a couple times a year. I have some cool antique drawers mounted to the wall that serve as display shelves. We have a mix of toys, his grandfather’s antique toy trains, beer glasses he collects etc. I keep it minimal, but he enjoys having those types of things out where he can see and enjoy them. No toys in the main rooms of the house though. I know he has friends that also have their own “man caves” where they can have their treasures lol.
Potatoes and onions are supposed to be stored separately. The gassing from the onions will cause the potatoes to sprout faster. So it actually makes sense to have the 2 baskets and store them separately.
“Look at all his games!” And then I glance over at our 3 overflowing bookshelves of games. My husband and I are both video game collectors. We have quite near 1000 games. But I also agree on the physical media front, which is why we have so many games. When you buy something digitally you don’t actually own it. They can take it off the service any time they want and you lose access. Buying it digitally is just buying the leasing rights.
We’re buying up dvds at £1 for 10 from our local hospice shop.. we’re collecting all our favourites. Same with cds and vinyl.. we have quite the collection now.. and of course books!
Game dev couple here 👋 I completely get you about wanting a calm home and I'm the same. Thankfully my husband and I both like our shared spaces to be peaceful too so all of our gamer stuff is contained to our home office. Tbh we really like that our office room is this crazy tech den with computers, figurines, prints etc but the rest of the house is very calming and organised so you can have both really 😄 also +1 to the subscription fatigue, it's just all too much, I miss owning things and being able to exchange books or films with friends etc
I have my own Pop figures from Some of my favourite shows like X-Files, Game of Thrones, Orphan Black, etc. I have them displayed around my office. Along with my big Baby Yoda. They make me smile and aren't clashing with the decor in the rest of the house. A narrow shelf above Alex's desk with his figures would be cute. 😊
Hey! About the coconut milk - I researched a lot too, as I really didn’t want to be funding such a horrific cause!! The general consensus is to check the label and if it says it’s from Thailand - leave it on the shelf! Koko Dairy Free have a monkey statement so I try to use them! But like you said Ocado, coop, boots and Waitrose and Hello Fresh say they don’t too! Xx
i kinda hate trends that keep societal expectations of "boy things" and "girl things" alive, they're just people things :) for all genders and all ages
You can make chick pea “chana” or a thick gravy, or “Ghugni” a Bengali dish which is much lighter, cooked in a thinner gravy of tomato ginger coriander and cumin powder and of course turmeric and chili but very little. You can put raw chopped onion and coriander and chili if you like on it and lap it up with a naan or a roti or even bread of any variety … thinning gravy so it’s nice .. you can check TH-cam for both.
agreed on the streaming services thing. I want to own my favorite series and movies, especially since I'm always scared they're just gonna get taken down from the streaming sites. streaming has to have an end indeed, it can't keep going on like this. my favorite series keep getting cancelled and the whole thing is so frustrating. and no, it's not only a millennial thing, I'm gen z (23 years old) and I really agree with what you said.
My husband has a study and it's his space and he can design and decorate it in anyway he wants and I just close the door so I don't have to look at it lol 😂
Inspiring! I’m definitely doing a spring pantry sort and clean out down here in the southern states. Love your work Madeleine 🌸 Also chickpea idea, chocolate chickpea cookies, sounds weird I know but they are epic. We used to make them at a vegetarian cafe I worked at.
Same brand of millennial here - had a complete obsession with Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe as a teen and all 50’s and 60’s culture and Donnie Darko was my fave! I think the issue with DVDs is the quality of old one’s can’t compare to streaming or modern filmmaking so maybe digital purchasing your absolute favourites is the way to go. I had a friend at school whose hyper focus was to collect DVDs of all the films she could, I often wonder where her collection is now and if she still does it! #millenialthoughts ❤
Lovely vlog! Organising is the best, makes you feel so good! My hub collects and paints Dungeons and Dragons and other models! I don’t really like them out, but he tends to use the dinning room table to paint them and often leaves them there!! Grrr - lol! I let him have a shelf unit to put them on as a compromise, it’s just not zen haha!
I agree with you about the streaming services. Especially with so many TH-camrs wanting people to pay memberships. That’s fine for them but there are far too many for me to subscribe to. I’ve commented on a few of my favourites and just been told to stop paying for one so I can pay for theirs. That doesn’t work. We only have a limited amount of money and my priorities are definitely not with that.
I agree. To have everything digitally is getting tedious. We are always getting ride of a subscription if we don’t use it for quite a while and it’s the same with photos. It’s a real shame we can’t get photos developed like we used to. I’m older than you Maddie and thought it was just me but I’m over it. You can’t even watch TH-cam anymore without being hassled to pay for “premium “ I often think of when we pass away just how many different sub acc etc will be open in our names including email. Alex’s aesthetic could fit in in places especially the garage as it’s a media space. A glass cabinet with the Pop Vinyls would work well
Nice 😊 I feel like I need a reset at least twice a year 🥰🙌🏻 usually I do this in August since I’m on forced time out for my work annual close and will go on holiday other time of the year because summer is so expensive I think to travel and I hate the heat. Well for movies or tv shows I love I just buy them on Amazon or Apple TV so when I stop subscriptions because some months I don’t have time to watch I still have them . Plus not everything is in one place that is so annoying 😅
My husband has all his action figures in his own room and his favourites on a book shelf next to his side of our bed. We are extremely lucky that our men understand how the figures don't suit the rest of the decor, and they let us banish them from public view 😅😂 xxx
My husband does have things that aren't my taste, and they are out on display. It's a home for both of us, we both pay for it, and we are both entitled to have whatever we want on display. I did used to feel like you, but I've realised I was wrong to try and control what was on display in our home. Why should my taste and preferences dominate? Like everything else in a relationship ship, a compromise is usually the best way imo.
I still have loads of DVDs, because I refuse to have an account with all streaming services (I only have Netflix & Disney), and you can guarantee the film you want to watch isn't on the streaming service you pay for. Even if I did have them all, I couldn't be bothered to search through all of them for a film, when I could just get the DVD from the cupboard 😅 (still have CDs too, although no CD player, other than in the car 😂)
My Husband said he only has two things displayed on his bedside table a vintage car and a phone holder and as I look around and its true ...I feel so selfish but he likes football , cars and formula one and the collectables do not go with my vintage vibe on our room I have thought about giving him the office/craft room to display his stuff but I am a crafter and he never uses the room. We gave our huge dvd collection apart from our absolute favourites to the charity shop and now I find myself buying copies back ..we have cancelled our subscriptions so rely on the TV and dvds now 😊
If you gave Alex a Billy bookcase, or similar where could have his things, I think it would be thoughtful and he would be chuffed. But this is your job and I understand. ❤❤
Cashew Fact: Cashew nuts are the kidney-shaped seeds that develop on the bottom of the pseudocarp or ‘false fruit’. The false fruit is commonly called the cashew apple or the fruit of the cashew tree (Anacardium occidentale). The real fruit is a kidney-shaped drupe that grows at the end of the apple. Inside this true fruit (the raw cashew nut) is the soft white kernel. But, the fruit is a powerhouse of protein and minerals that include copper, calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, and zinc. The fruit is highly aromatic with sweet, tropical flavours mixed with an astringent taste. Many liken the flavor of the fruit to be a blend of cucumbers, strawberries, mangos, and peppers. Side note: I really want to try the ‘false fruit’ 😂
My husband collects hotwheels and model cars he has them on display in his office and also in the dining room. Because we share the space together ❤️ but I get what you mean, allowing his rhings out , you will regret it later on but not doing it, life to short to hide rhings away ❤
The burning question… which Pride and Prejudice makes your collection? I still have all my favorites on DVD so I know ai can watch them anytime I like. Wouldn’t part with them.
I just have the DVDs of movies I really love and watch over and over and I keep them in a binder and recycle the cases. That way they take up less space and are all organized. I don’t have cable, and I have no subscription services. I had Netflix many years ago but it sat unused except to watch IT Crowd every now and then. I realized I was wasting my money not actually using it, so I got rid of it. I know other people like to watch what’s current, but I don’t care. I just watch the movies I love on repeat. Sometimes I’ll get ones I’m interested in used on eBay and add them to the collection. But I have no need to watch tv to fill the time. Social media and TH-cam tend to fill enough time already. Often now when I put in a movie, it’s just for background noise and I don’t really even sit watching it. Just putter around the house listening to it. I spent my childhood in front of the TV. Don’t really care much for it anymore. But I definitely understand the desire to have the DVDs on hand instead of subscribing to something. Books as well. I want actual books in my hand, not a kindle or other device to read from. I need the physical book, and I need it to smell musty and nostalgic. Lol!
I gave up on having at least 1 room that was the "pretty adult room" with no collectible/nerdy things. It's not something to stress/fight over after a while.
PSA for all my fellow chocoholics: ALDI has a chocolate called “Choco Changer” that is made from certified slave free cocoa. Don’t know if it is available in every country, but it is worth checking out.
My husband has his own game room(small bedroom), where all his figures are displayed, and he plays xbox. The rest of the house is decorated how I want it to be.
I agree with this.
Yup that’s what I do.
Smaller ones are quite fun placed on top of chunkier picture frames… 😊
This is very cute ❤
i think the little things that would put a smile on alex' face are more important than the aesthetic of the house ❤
I would display Alex's stuff out, maybe display near his desk or where he keeps his thiings since it will make him happy. Who cares what anyone thinks, it's your house
Great idea!
I agree put Alex’s collection by his work area so he can appreciate them. Maybe a shelf above his desk
I think we will do this when we swap the computers!
A game room is the perfect place for the Pop figures! And they look really cute there, actually.
They do 🫶🏻
I love an autumn reset. This is lovely
Maddie you are looking beautiful today and radiate wellness. I am 69 soon and always look forward to your videos. Thank you❣️
That’s so kind thank you 🫶🏻

Ooooh thanks for this tip I’m going to have to try it!
But first put them in water for 1-2 days before blending them.
Alex’s “toys” are not my vibe for the house but maybe in the office? Loved the pantry organisation Maddie. So satisfying! 😘
Glad you enjoyed!
For myself, physical clutter equals cluttered mind. Watching a good declutter & organization video relaxes me.
Same!
i think you should definitely let alex put his funkopops out, especially in the garage. it should feel like both of your houses not just yours
I love a declutter especially Spring and Autumn, when you’re in the middle of it you think “why did I start this”. However it is so satisfying when you’re finished. 🧡🍁🍄🟫🍂🐿️
I've started buying DVDs again and I love it. So nice to just have all my favourites and comfort watches available whenever I want them!
I love small figures like that myself but also love more romantic old homes and think the combination is quite unique and fun! ☺️
I did not know that about coconuts or cashews!
I am going to do a Sept reset too. I always feel like I should be buying pencils and pens for going back to school at this time of year. I'm 48😅😊
I loved watching the declutter 🥰

Makes sense to want to clean and organize right now cuz it’s Virgo season!
A very satisfying declutter. It’s something we all put off but feel so much better for doing. Best wishes Karen 🧡🍂🧡

yayy- i've missed your decluttering, maddiee 😍😍😍
I have some of my star wars figurines inside of a wall shelf with some succulents, it looks super cute and shows the character of our home :)

Donnie Darko! One of my favorites. Lord of the Rings is also in my collection, we watch it every few months. I love a good declutter!

You could make more chickpea flour with those dried chickpeas!! Its super easy, you basically just blits them in a food processor ❤

Game dev couple here 👋 I completely get you about wanting a calm home and I'm the same. Thankfully my husband and I both like our shared spaces to be peaceful too so all of our gamer stuff is contained to our home office. Tbh we really like that our office room is this crazy tech den with computers, figurines, prints etc but the rest of the house is very calming and organised so you can have both really 😄
also +1 to the subscription fatigue, it's just all too much, I miss owning things and being able to exchange books or films with friends etc
My BF used to collect plane models, so I gave him a little glass display case and we integrated it in the living room. It works ^^
Love all your videos I need a reset day I have too many things opps need them all or do I lol thanks for sharing xx
Biona organic coconut milk specify that they don’t use monkey labour 👍
Xx
This is great info thank you!
i kinda hate trends that keep societal expectations of "boy things" and "girl things" alive, they're just people things :) for all genders and all ages
I agree with the popping up around the house, but also hidden. I also think maybe a display case for Alex for all his own?
You can make chick pea “chana” or a thick gravy, or “Ghugni” a Bengali dish which is much lighter, cooked in a thinner gravy of tomato ginger coriander and cumin powder and of course turmeric and chili but very little. You can put raw chopped onion and coriander and chili if you like on it and lap it up with a naan or a roti or even bread of any variety … thinning gravy so it’s nice .. you can check TH-cam for both.
Maddie good decluttering and organizing. 👍👍❤❤
Perfect Timing Madeleine♥️♥️♥️ and I was eagerly eagerly waiting for this vlog for so long
agreed on the streaming services thing.
Perhaps give Alex a space in one room where they can be on display...the garage might be good since you play video games there and watch movies there.
My husband has a study and it's his space and he can design and decorate it in anyway he wants and I just close the door so I don't have to look at it lol 😂
I get it but they look cute there 😊. It is the entertainment room & will make him so happy!!
Inspiring! I’m definitely doing a spring pantry sort and clean out down here in the southern states. Love your work Madeleine 🌸
Also chickpea idea, chocolate chickpea cookies, sounds weird I know but they are epic. We used to make them at a vegetarian cafe I worked at.
I do a deep cleaning of my house in the spring and autumn. 🍂
When I decant, I do it over the sink to save messing up my work top. Xx
😂 my partner has Lego sets that drive me a bit nuts, but besides that we have a very similar taste in clean /antique/ homey decor
I think having a dedicated display for collections is nice, but we do confine it to particular spaces (my husband's office/studio room)
I have not read through the comments, but have you considered lazy Susans? They are life changing in cupboards and even the fridge for all the bits!
My husband has all his action figures in his own room and his favourites on a book shelf next to his side of our bed.
We are extremely lucky that our men understand how the figures don't suit the rest of the decor, and they let us banish them from public view 😅😂 xxx
17:41 the music ❤
We gave our huge dvd collection apart from our absolute favourites to the charity shop and now I find myself buying copies back ..we have cancelled our subscriptions so rely on the TV and dvds now 😊
I think Alex deserves to also feel like the house has his personality, personally
If you gave Alex a Billy bookcase, or similar where could have his things, I think it would be thoughtful and he would be chuffed.
But this is your job and I understand. ❤❤
I do get the Pride and Prejudice vibe!
Did you know the actress who played Gretchen in Donnie Darko plays Lydia in P&P? Imagine so but when I found out I was mind blown 😂❤
I wish to have a room for all the lego and anime stuff 😂😂 but now I have settled to have one corner with all the lego cars arranged in a unit
My husband collects hotwheels and model cars he has them on display in his office and also in the dining room. Because we share the space together ❤️ but I get what you mean, allowing his rhings out , you will regret it later on but not doing it, life to short to hide rhings away ❤
maybe find a cute 3D frame- where you can display them all in one place but i looks like art and is more in order?
We do artsy paintings of video game scenes!
I definitely think Alex's figures could work in your home, I'm all for a bit of juxtaposition ❤
