- Legendary driver, team owner and announcer Dale Earnhardt Jr. will finally take the stage for induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2021.
During his illustrious career Dale Earnhardt Jr. won two Daytona 500s in 2004 and 2014, and two championships in what is now the NASCAR Xfinity Series. His team, JR Motorsports, currently competes in the Xfinity Series and won championships with drivers Chase Elliott and Tyler Reddick, both of whom compete in the NASCAR Cup Series. Since retiring from full-time competition, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been part of NASCAR on NBC's coverage of Cup Series and Xfinity Series races, alongside Rick Allen, Jeff Burton and Steve Letarte. Earnhardt's own company has several successful podcasts in the NASCAR industry, including the popular Dale Jr. Download with co-host Mike Davis.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. will join his famous father, seven-time Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt, in the hall of fame on Friday, Jan. 21. In this special extended interview, Dale Jr. goes 1-on-1 with WCNC Charlotte's Ashley Stroehlein to discuss the prestigious honor.
During the interview, Earnhardt Jr. talks at length about making his father proud and how he knows Dale Sr. would love everything his son accomplished in NASCAR. Dale Jr. also talks about how he never imagined his career being so successful, despite the opportunities he was given and the faith so many put in him following his dad's death in the 2001 Daytona 500.
Dale Jr. also shares how it will feel to share this moment with his wife, Amy Earnhardt, as well as his two daughters, Isla and Nicole. Dale shares one regret he has about his daughters and why this moment will be even more special in the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Following his father's death in the 2001 Daytona 500, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was shoved into the limelight as the biggest star in motorsports. How did he handle that pressure while in his 20s? As it turns out, the answer might surprise you.
Dale also tells Ashley what will be in his Hall of Fame case. It will feature some incredibly personal items, including the helmet he wore in the 2001 Pepsi 400, the first race at Daytona after his dad's fatal crash, as well as the feature story that was written about him in Rolling Stone.

I worked at DIS 1996-2006 as part of the security/safety teams. Dale Jr was/is one of the humblest people that I've ever met in my entire life. 2001 NASCAR July race at DIS was by far my best experience from working there for me. There wasn't a dry eye there that night.

Dale Jr always gives credit to others instead of himself. IMHO, his sister Kelley is why he's where he is today. IMHO, she deserves to be in the HOF also because of all she's done for NASCAR too.

Several NASCAR cup series drivers became successful because of Dale Jr and Kelley. Martin Truex Jr is just one example.

Jr, I know you say that you were blessed, that you were fortunate. Let me tell you something, NASCAR is blessed, your fans are blessed that you are here. I was a huge fan of your dad, I didn't know too much about you. February 2001, I was lost. But as bad as we felt, I couldn't fathom your loss (not until 2011 when I lost my grand-dad). The way way you carried yourself and the sport, the man that you have become, there are no words to accurately describe what you mean to us. We are so very happy for you and so very proud of you. And you earned that. We love you Junior!
Family, friends and then racing. That is a hall of fame driver. And I do love racing. BUT family and friends are more. Hopefully the same for us all. Work IS important but.....

I was in Homestead when you won a Busch Championship and got to see your Dad with his arm around you in the back of a pickup. He showed more emotion for your achievement than I think he ever did for anything I can remember. Congratulations!!

Dad was tuff on you. He wanted the best for you but his personality dictated the emotional expressions that he expressed or didn't... He may have not got the acknowledgements from his Dad...? His Dad died in garage before he won 7 Cup championships..... Makes sense.. I understand...
