I just want to let you know that I've learned so much about plants from you, and today I was at a houseplant store (got a truly massive snake plant for 30$) and the employees were talking about using molasses on plants, and asked if I had ever heard of it. I was like yes I have actually, and summed up your video on it and directed them to your channel and they were so excited! Great stuff!
Maybe you could do an episode on how soil health might be measured? How do labs do it? Is it through microscopy? Can they count bacteria numbers, fungal mass, nematode counts, arthropods? Is there any way we can measure these things at home? Maybe a macronutrient measurement is easier or more effective? There all kinds of recommendations out there for soil health but I'm not aware of a way to actually measure it. Thanks. I'm so glad I found your channel recently.
I've heard that lentils sprouts as they grow out their roots are loaded with rooting hor.ones (auxins) and can be liquefied and ised in your cuttings. Is this true?
I don't live in Canada, but yours is my favorite channel when it comes to sciency stuff about gardening! Btw I have a question, do the synthetic form of these hormones get affected by temperatures? I live in the tropics (+- 30 C) and I store my bottled liquid plant hormones outside, will they denature faster that way? Thank you, Ashley!

Fellow canadian plant nerd redhead person!! It is a joy to find your channel! I am curious what you think of/if you have heard a product called HB-101? It is made by a family in Japan with a long history in the forestry industry - it apparently contains "essences" of a few tree species as well as some nutrients and is called a "vitalizer" as opposed to fertilizer. I have seen bonsai forums write it off as snake oil and I have also seen other anecdotes saying it really helped. It's hard to find english-language information about it and how it works (let alone what it is/where in plant care it is useful), maybe it's something you're better able to explain?

Awesome content as always! Anyway, I read a short article from a reliable source that there is no need to use rooting hormone for certain plants such as Philodendrons. The reason being is that the nodes already have pre-formed adventitious roots. Is this accurate? Or would using rooting hormone still be advantageous for these species-especially for nodes with desiccated aerial roots or one’s where the preformed root “bumps” are dormant?
That’s a really good question. So for anything with advantageous roots it’s not going to work. Advantageous roots were drastically different and how they form, what they do, even how we interact with their environment.
I also want to ask if there is an advantage to using a rooting hormone product with both IBA and NAA? Is there a difference between using a product with one or the other?
That’s another really good question. Ultimately it’s always good to have more diversity. For example if a plant has a higher affinity for the IBA versus the NAA it may work out in your favor. I wouldn’t go out of my way to make it happen. But I won’t be shy about using it if I had both at my availability
Yet another great video! I’ve recommended your videos in the San Pedro subreddit several times. I don’t believe you’ve done a video specific to cacti yet but since they’re different in so many ways from other plants could you do a video specifically for the cactus community? A lot of people have ideas they promote on Reddit that I doubt would hold up scientifically. Especially when it comes to the best way to root cuttings, I’ve read people promoting all of the techniques you mentioned in this video and countless others that, to me, don’t seem rational. Thanks again for all you do! Edit: I stand corrected! After leaving my comment I found the video on prickly pears. You confirmed two things I’ve been using that other growers have strong negative feelings about: terracotta and coir. Growing cacti in Florida I need all the drainage I can get without going to an exclusively mineral based mix. My bad for not making sure I checked existing videos.

I took six rose bush cuttings last September from three different plants. All could find locally was the general purpose hormone. So far I have only lost two after they leafed out. They were from the same bush. Should I now give them rose food? If so, what type? Take care!
The bark of several different plants is sold as cinnamon. I doubt if any studies have been done comparing the different types as they relate to rooting plants.
Hello. I agree with you on cinnamon but figured I would throw my 2 cents in... Fresh cinnamon bark does contain the phloem which has a lot of auxin and will work much like willow bark which gives credence to the folk lore in the cannabis community... powdered processed cinnamon is completely devoid of that layer after processing though.

Tracks survival rates and root development over several months for simi hardwood, softwoods, and air layering plants. Only one study but the results are interesting.
I have a couple of monstera deliciosa cuttings living in water with an impressive growing root system. Then I also have a syngonyum with root rot that I had to trim down up to the base. I put the syngonium into the vase of the monstera in hope that the root hormones of the monstera could jump start the syngonium. And it works! My syngonium is always sad and leggy looking in winter so I didn't have any high expectations but I spotted chubby fuzzy roots of the syngonium about a week after the commune living arrangement.
Hahahaha I don’t think I’ve ever had an interaction with poison ivy before. But now that I’ve said that I can guarantee you they share the link I will end up in a poison ivy patch
4:41- 5:04 Painful to watch for my fear of cross contamination. The idea of a plant I took a cutting from having some disease or other transferable pest and it's in my rooting method and all the cuttings just came in contact with it. Use of a cheaply purchased tapered tip condiment bottle to distribute the rooting hormone solves this.
You’re average viewer doesn’t like “down time” I generally get higher engagement/pushing into the algorithm with these video formats. For example my last video was “my worst performance in the last month” and this video currently is at #1 with 2x the views in the first three hours. I hate editing them this way. And try to avoid it and only do a few videos at a time in this way.
I was specifically looking for the actual science and technicalities of rooting hormone. There are tons of videos on how to use it, but I needed to understand the chemistry of auxins better.

It would be through determining CFUs technically. And then diversity via microscopes

What are the pros and cons if any using rooting hormones on established plants as a stimulant to try to get them to produce more roots ?
I tried the pothos and aloe. Had success with the aloe but not so much with the pothos. I will try pothos again during the growing season.

Do you only treat the plant with hormones once? What if you water propagate? Should you dip again if you change the water?

Yeah so I guess if you get your hands on a cinnamon tree. And its still viable/Alive then it’ll likely have the proper volume for that sort of thing.

What about brown seaweed extract? It's largely sold as a rooting product.
What about auxin in bamboo shoots, becouse bamboo has incredible reputation for fastest growing plants
