Thank you! I have only just discovered your channel. I have been resistant to making an ancestral altar a part of my spiritual practise, because I came from a very troubled and unhappy family. However, I’m thinking about it more now. Is it possible to have an ancestral altar, when we don’t necessarily want to connect with, or even remember, certain recent ancestors who have passed? Can we pick and choose who we honour there? As I would want it to be a healing practise, and not one that just drags up painful memories and relationships. There are also certain people I definitely would not want to ‘invite’ back into my home or life! I would love to know your thoughts on those issues.. 🙏🏼
Yes. Like any relationship, you have the right to set boundaries. An altar is a home. Invite who you wish. Working with your ancestors can bring immense healing that extends both ways on your family line. Im always surprised what comes out of my time at the altar.
Yes As in life, choose who you want to honor. We have an ancestral altar which includes our pets who have passed and members of our CHOSEN family. We speak of our memories and realize they are with us all of the time. Blessed Be this Sakhalin season!!
Great video, your videos are so informative and inspiring. In my shaman class I was working on my mother’s mother’s line of the family. I am not close with the family, and don’t have pictures. What type of things can I put on the altar for them?
Beautifully made and visually stunning video.
Thanks Julia!

You can use anything you feel represents them. I like using something that represents the FEELING of an ancestor’s presence.
