@joeb8383 they are both great. They just have really strong personalities that seem like they might clash. Usually when two geniuses work together it ends up with fights. Take Roger Waters and David Gilmour for example.
@@dojyaan.0i don't know why Gilmour and Waters had these struggles. As an intelligent and mature person you should be able to communicate on an constructive level. Like Copeland and Sting for example.
I totally understand that psychological warfare & trauma between bandmates. My bass player got arrested for a minor offense landing him in jail. He lost his job, apartment and had to live in the studio. (Short term!) The bathroom was a long walk in a dark hallway so at night he would use beer cans to relieve himself. At the next practice my alcoholic drummer went after the can on the bass head saying it’s warm but he didn’t care and was as surprised as the cop in Dumb and Dumber. There was no fight, just a death threat and laughter and more laughter.😂
Sting comes across as arrogant imo...i could b wrong.....im not police fan at all but im def a Copeland fan...he hits those drums so crisp n hard, love it....nxt time u hear police song just listen to drums
What a talented band they were. Also for the bass players reading this I just learned Rio by Duran Duran and I'll say one thing. John Taylor has my complete respect.
I don't know if you've seen, but John Taylor has his own TH-cam page where he breaks down some of his iconic songs. Rio included. Imagine a song with Taylor and Copeland as the rhythm section!!
I saw this comment first, then came across a nice comment with some weird emoji… followed by half a dozen extremely similar and clearly fake ones… so yeah, you ain’t lyin lol
I saw them at Shea. My only memory of the show was a girl from MTV coming out on stage to announce the band and getting blasted in the face with a tennis ball.
I love the Police and Sting! Sting did a cd of modal type songs, it’s just wonderful! Rick, why not do a show about modal music? I play a mountain dulcimer and these songs are meant for my instrument.
Yeah, it didn't LOOK like joke when they got into a fight during their interview with Martha Quinn on MTV during the Synchronicity Tour. And, it didn't sound like Andy Summers described jokes, either. I think Stewart realizes that he comes across as a jealous douche, now, so he's recreating history.
I know I sound like a broken record but Stewart Copeland has aged like a vintage bottle of wine. He still looks great and looks amazing at 72 and doesn't look his age.
"We had psychological weapons that were much more devastating" like every time Stewart would call the Police "his band," which is true and drives Sting up the wall 😂
"you always overdo it" cracked me up
Cracked him up too
Yeah not the only thing that cracked
I see what you did there
wonderful drummer
KLARK KENT
A drummer like no other, and, he's friggin hilarious!
How Stewart and Sting were in the same band for the little amount of time they were will always surprise me.
Why ? There are both so great
@joeb8383 they are both great. They just have really strong personalities that seem like they might clash. Usually when two geniuses work together it ends up with fights. Take Roger Waters and David Gilmour for example.
Is 9 years a little amount of time?
@@funkstienn1002 For a band, i'd say yeah. Depends on who you ask though.

Whoever passes away first, will leave the other one crying everytime they think of the other.
Not only is Stewart Copeland a phenomenal drummer, But he is a born storyteller. Amazing guy. Sting isn't bad, either. Love the Police.
That Sting guy was a decent musician also, huh
I love three-piece bands the police and rush are my all-time favorites. Love them both forever and always brilliant both of them.
As a lifelong drummer in his twilight years I have always loved Stewart Coplands style
I saw that Shea Studium show and this info makes it all the more amazing.
The kind of friend I always love to have
Fantastic drummer.
I could listen to his stories all day long
A legend interviewing another legend. You are such a great host Rick!
Its just what best friends do, they might not meet each other for years but when they meet it's like they never part
Rick is my favorite of all the favorites with his interviews- and copeland is a true legend
Rick is the best concerning music IMHO.
Stewart is a pretty good drummer too lol.
OYSTERHEAD!!! 🤘
I don’t know how I’d get along without this channel .
One of the best sophisticated drummers
I love it! They needed that fire, that yin-yang balance to bring out their best performances.
Stewart Copeland ❤🐐
Thos crazy jazz punks!
Rick talks to my Favorite most admired people in this world.
All different personalities in the band but all were focused on a common goal and that's what makes a grear band.
Another great interview 🥁👊🏼
Always hope good bands get back together
Grew up near that stadium (Sacramento State’s stadium) and remember missing that show. Damn the luck.
He said Shea stadium it was 1982

That’s gross. Sounds like some rough times.

Best daze of my life. Keep Rockin!🤘🏻
Have you ever watched some of the old footage of them together from the '80s, you can see them throwing these zingers at one another verbally, Savage
I was at that show!!!
The Police are pure magic!
If you can't have "fun" fights with your friends, they aren't really your friends. Men understand this.
Copeland seems so funny in general 😂
God i love tgat man
Sting comes across as arrogant imo...i could b wrong.....im not police fan at all but im def a Copeland fan...he hits those drums so crisp n hard, love it....nxt time u hear police song just listen to drums
Good show. I was there for it. Also Joan Jett and REM 1983-ish
❤❤❤❤ Fantastic🤘😝🤘

Yeah John Taylor has been real good for a very long time.
@f.alexander.poetry2343 Rio has so much syncopation and ghost notes and 140 beats per minute. It's far from easy. Woohwee!
I don't know if you've seen, but John Taylor has his own TH-cam page where he breaks down some of his iconic songs. Rio included.

Sting must’ve really felt the “sting” of that knee to the rib cage. 🤦🏽♂️
Brothers always fight.
The bots are crazy.

@wokeupinapanic the first several comments were just bot after bot after bot lol
PSYCHOLOGICAL WEAPONS THAT WERE MUCH MORE DEVASTATING~~~~~~~LOL!! RICK good show Man~
Stewart Copeland was one of the main drummers that influenced my playing style. Mitch Mitchell and Jim Fox are up there as well.
That's great
I saw them at Shea.
My only memory of the show was a girl from MTV coming out on stage to announce the band and getting blasted in the face with a tennis ball.
Classy
We hadn't fights just broke our ribs.
“Youre a funny guy” - Stewart Copeland
I love the Police and Sting!
Sting did a cd of modal type songs, it’s just wonderful!
Rick, why not do a show about modal music? I play a mountain dulcimer and these songs are meant for my instrument.
I was at that show!
Please anyone, name of song in the background?
synchronicity - from the album of the same name.
Among the best albums that I own
"Psychological weapons" the worst can make people hate each other.
Surely there must be a song that came from this as a result.
Yikes. That NYT no longer exists, what a through back story
I’ve seen the videos. They were PISSED a lot!
YUP! Me too! They were swinging in a non brotherly fashion!
Barry Gibb, when 🤔❤️
I dunno, I remember watching a video and it was fisticuffs and they were not laughing. Andy was trying to mediate if I remember correctly.
Stewart could set the Pace of the songs, and THAT is what drove Sting mad...

Fantastic drummer, and apparently, a capable fibber.
I know I sound like a broken record but Stewart Copeland has aged like a vintage bottle of wine. He still looks great and looks amazing at 72 and doesn't look his age.
The reply is in the name of the instrument
What's the title of the song in the background?
They are brothers
typical Police and their use of excessive force.
Can't believe no one commented on your comment!
Funny as hell!!!
But don't the police usually put their knee on your neck?
fine !, you're two of a perfect trio, as well @@davidbusen545
bang ! 😂
I feel like not many people understand a bond between two people who are physically committed to their bit

Hey, that's my line.
Something tells me they weren’t laughing
Ginger Baker of the ‘80s!
Does anybody know the name of the song in the background?
Police brutality.

Ive heard audio from that gig at Shea stadium. They mess up alot!! Certainly not as good as the gig at the Omni in Atlanta that year thats on film.
Yeah..They had fist fights!☹
Most people know him as the drummer for the police
Cultured gentlemen know him as the composer for the original 3 Spyro the dragon games for PS1
Translation: " we made so much money it over rides the hate we have for each other "
🌟
A few broken ribs here and there, you know.Just clownin’ around.🤣🤣🤣
Copeland is one strange person, but he is a fantastic drummer
Copeland is the Yin to Ginger Bakers Yang
Who never broke a friend's rib just for funzies? 😂
cocaine's a hell of a drug
WoW Carmine Appice & his pupil, Liberty deVitto used a newspaper to dampen too!
🤘
How is it that Stewart Copeland doesn't change? It's drumming.
Do they still talk? Jam?
Must have been medicated because a broken rib is VERY painful.
"We had psychological weapons that were much more devastating" like every time Stewart would call the Police "his band," which is true and drives Sting up the wall 😂
Yeah "not in anger"
That song is wildly great! That guy looked exactly like my cousin who's ironically a very good drummer too.
I hate that Sting went off on his own !!!
Then why aren't the police together
NYT?..
He Was Doing You A Solid, Taking To Destroy...
CURVED AIR
Fighting like that over the New York Times ? Musta really really taken a messy 💩
Imagine fighting with someone over a copy of The New York Times.. 🤔
NYT journalists crap on with so much BS for so long you can’t read the articles
just heard his old man was in the cia !!!
Drummers! 😅😅
Because of this guy the police separated. What a diva.
Are you sure? My impression is it was mainly Sting the dictator 😂
rick aint buyin it lol
There's a hairline crack in my rib today...
Copelands father was a founding member of the cia and instrumental in the coups in Egypt and Iran. The more you know
I'm sure the cocaine being consumed had something to do with it
