  • Our newest season is here! We open Contested Philippine Histories with a historical problem that made the news rounds recently: The Battle of Mactan. Was LapuLapu a Tausug from the "Eastern Kingdom of Sulu"? Did he fight off invaders because of freedom? Was he the middle-aged and muscular warrior in the popular imagination? And did he really kill Magellan? That's a lot of questions, but if these aren't enough, we also interrogate the value and politics of commemoration in the present day, among other things.
Listen to our first two seasons, if you haven't already, and visit our website, www.podkas.org for more information and resources about the show.

Thank you for having this podcast. Credible and factual information was delivered. It's a great help for the students to digest such loads of information.
Also, I've heard a conspiracy theory that LapuLapu was a Muslim that's why he fight off the foreigners to defend his faith. I think it would be interesting to know if there are available primary sources that mentioned about this.
