  • This video attempts to explain having a bowel movement with a catheter bag, the 2 types of catheter bags, the importance of remaining hydrated to support a good strain free bowel movement and will show you what the surgical wounds look like on day #6.
    1. Large catheter bag has a 2000 ml capacity (not 200ml)
    2. Stool softening meds (all OTC) are the following: 1. Docusate (Colace) 100 mg x3 per day; 2. Miralax if Docusate fails; and 3. finally Milk of Magnesia if both of the previous stool softeners fail
    3. Provided Bacitracin Zinc Ointment for use on tip of penis where the surgical tubing enters the urethra. This helps control itching and possible infection. I apply liberally and works well.

Thanks for this great video. Sounds just like my current situation… had surgery 5 days ago and had the same issues with the tape for the tube…. So I ordered more from Amazon that are being delivered today which will solve my current concern!
I also skipped the narcotics and kept using stool softener since I tend to force a but when I normally start to go!
My cuts are closed with metal staples which will be removed with the removal of the catheter in 3 days!

I didn’t know you had surgery! I had BPH and I had the Holep procedure. So all done through the urethra . I’m still having problems completely emptying my Bladder. Since I have a stricter I had to have a dilation done and some cutting on the stricter. So I had the Foley for a week after. Still can’t completely empty my bladder, but is better. For a while I was having to pee every 20 minutes and low flow. Now it is much better flow is better and I can go an hour or two depending on what I’ve been drinking, like coffee and water! I hope you heal quickly!

Good suggestions I had another surgery in June ! I had urethroplasty done and had the catheter in for 3 weeks the end of the third week the end of my penis was quite sore from standing and sitting and moving the catheter! But a least the Stricture was gone. I got the catheter out and the surgeon asked how is the flow and I said kind of like a sprinkler system it goes everywhere but where it is supposed to! So I seat to pee so I’m not making a mess. It is better now today is October 1 and sometimes I can still have a double stream.

Yeah I remember that feeling, used tons of Vaseline and antibiotic cream on the area. Was so happy to get rid of that plastic thing. Hoping the flow improves with time.

Had my surgery 3 months ago. Try to not force out the void but let it flow on its own without “pushing”. When you force more pressure it will spray out after exiting. Hope that helps.
