Even though it doesn't happen so common these days, sadly the majority's mindset haven't changed. Many people think that they are doing some big favour when they say "if it were the olden times, I would have beaten you black and blue" or "you are lucky that you were born to me. If you were born to your grandpa, you wouldn't have been alive now". Even saying these things imply that corporal punishment is still valued, but not done due to fear of law or other things.
Why even go back to 90s? Corporal punishment is undertaken by some schools even today. The school I was in from 2010 till 2016 used to beat the heck out of us.
