sounds like a joke almost, but it´s weird how much DMT lets you see through the physical "reality" we perceive everyday. Im surprised the double slit experiment wasnt mentioned in this conversation. The fact that particals behave diffrently when observed is a huge reason to believe that we are living in a simulation
@@Neon-ws8er because it's not standard in English to consider "interaction" when using the word observe. In fact, in most cases in English, they are polar opposites. It's how this experiment got so popular - by abusing this word leading to these misunderstandings.
This seems like a double bind. How would we know how they behave when not observed? Because to know how they act either way still takes observation, whether through our eyes or another mode of observation. In the room or not, we're still making an observation. We can't know how something acts when we're not observing it. Why? Because there was no observation to begin with. No camera set up. For all I know, stuffed animals could get up & start dancing the jig in a child's room when they turn out the light. Just seems contradictory. And leaves out the experiment itself impacting a particle's behavior in terms of the controls used.
My theory has always been this: even if we were a part of a simulation, our perceived reality is real to us. It's very possible you could be the only conscious entity in your reality - however it is still your reality. Everything you perceive is real, regardless if it exists outside of your own consciousness. So whether or not we live in a simulation is irrelevant because everything we perceive is still real and genuine to us.
@@SimplifiedTruth it might be homework of some student thats learns about simulations, it might be for museum purposes. Lets say they want to show how it was in covid time. Simulation starts in 2019 and runs couple of years and than repeats. On the other table there is ww2, moon landing, piramids building etc
My whole interpretation of the simulation theory is that if it isn't real at our very core being are consciousness is just electrical outputs in the brain. Signals of information. It makes no difference if we are in a simulation or the one true reality because how we function would be virtually the same. Even down to what you believe happens if you die. A simulation could constantly start you over or put you into a version of heaven. But how our minds work and process information could just be a super computer or it could be a true reality.
In the end it also does not really matter; for some reason we have a very strong will to keep ''living''. And if we all of sudden start doing something completely ''wrong'' or different, then who knows what happens and maybe the simulation is shut down.
That's what makes the entire thing jive... It ties together consciousness as we perceive it and also explains the mysteries of quantum mechanics at the same time.
Imagine getting advanced enough to build such a simulation, and then watching the people within the simulation get to the point that they created their own simulation. That would blow your mind, you would have to question how many simulations within a simulation we were in

1 thing I think is overlooked is that if the simulation was real and we are living in it who are we to say it is indistinguishable from reality. In my opinion its more reasonable to assume we live in a watered down universe in order to make it easier on the computer, the same way when you play gta it's a representation of our world but far less complex.
That would largely defeat the point of the simulation though. The whole point of the simulation would be to simulate things to such a degree, that the output would be applicable and comparable to the actual real world, otherwise the data gathered about the simulation would largely be pointless. It's like a game simulating aliens that don't actually exist....simulating them doesn't tell us anything, because they're just artificial imaginary characters that only exist in the form they exist in because they're programmed to exist that way, and couldn't really exist in the real real world, which would again make the data pointless.

A perfect simulation, beginning with the creation of the universe, would eventually also result in the creation of the beings running the simulation who would then create a simulation recursively within the simulation itself and it would also be able to predict the future of the beings who created the first level of recursion. The simulation would have to be running in exponentially faster time in relation to the real time of the beings who started the first level of recursion to achieve this.

To anyone who disagrees with Bostrom saying he invented the simulation argument, he did. There’s a difference between a theory, and an argument. “What are the chances of living in the most interesting time in history.” The present has always and will always be the most interesting time in history…
The problem with the direction of this conversation is; reality and consciousness are actually subjective. 2 people or "beings" can be in the same space and time, but the experiences of their reality and their level of consciousness do not align. Side note; all technological advances are reverse engineered by the observation or study of an existing operation or pre-existing operation (whether "natural" or "engineered") and using similar concepts or operations produce a controlled technological advancement. So if a simulation experience would be a technological advancement, it is only a replication of an experience of a being that already is or was in existence. And the purpose of the replication can be a solutions or controlled environment for "beings" needing or wanting that same experience but have limitations of their own matter, space, time, safety, health, etc... In order for you to say you are in a simulation, you would first have to realize that you are not fully conscious because you are unaware that somewhere in someplace resides another part of you that is the source of you, who also is not fully conscious because it cannot freely come and go from the simulation or cannot transfer data or consciousness, and if that's the case then the simulation is your reality period!
Expansion Journey29 but if you’re not the controller of the simulation then it won’t matter about pre-existing consciousness or having consciousness outside your simulation. If you’re a part of a simulation then it could be argued that you’re not real at all. Only the creator would be real
@@godlytyungodly but because reality is subjective, you can not say because something is simulated or artificial it is not reality. Especially if space, time, experiences, or energy exist and are exchanged there. For example you could argue your dreams are not real, but on the other hand you could argue because much of your time in this form is spent dreaming while asleep (some times awake) that dreaming is very real, regardless of the content or physical materialisation of the dream...the act of dreaming is real. For example at our most free form we would be just sources of light, particles of light. In this form you are flesh and bone, if the flesh and bone material is just an avatar for your true self of light to be compresses and have physical experiences, your consciousness or body being real is subjective to the being of light or controller which is having the experience. Funny thing is as now a being of matter, we want to create and live in virtual worlds where you exist as being of light (which is all a digital world is; material programming viewed as light through a screen.) But if today you spent the rest of your life in a vr world then that would be your reality, even though it would not be mine even though we are both in the same space (earth) and the same time (2019).
The part where he said it would be more sustainable to build VR only in the surface and more in detail only when we take a closer look is great. Thats actually something i always thought about as a child. I remembered playing Counter strike condition zero, and thought about the other characters in the game. I had a question that when those characters both on my teams and the terrorist team are not on my screen are they really there? Or they are only there when i took a certain path or walk into a certain room and see them shooting at me and i shoot back. Its kinda similar to what he said about, if i understood what he meant correctly, he talked about the table they are sitting at in a VR world created, they could take a microscope and other equipment to look at the table observe the atoms and whatever that the table is made of and make measurements etc. But those smaller details don't have to be created for real until they take a microscope and take a look at it that would make it easier and using lesser computing power instead of creating everything with details.
exactly, it's the age old question, that when a tree falls in a forest where there is nobody around, does it make a sound? what is fascinating is, that quantum theory proves our universe is of such nature. the observer directly influences physical world around just by measuring (looking). it all starts with double slit experiment. it's amazing how physicists are becoming philosophers, because that's where their exact measurements and repeatable experiments naturaly lead them. what a time to be alive.
@@M4rs0 It’s because of that experiment that I discovered this simulation. While before that I was completely convinced there was nothing beyond this world
It reminds me of (i asked chatgpt on this) subjective idealism by George Berkley.. About Counter Strike, i guess they could simulate the bots movement from their base to your position but nothing else at all. So PC will not calculate all renderings etc.. Another thing is they have calculated the some scenarios of the positions you'll meet the first bots and just give you one of these scenarios without any prior calculation.
@M4rs0 The quantum double slit experiment does appear to support the hypothesis we are living in a simulation where only what is observed is fully rendered. How else to explain that merely observing an experiment alters the outcome. A single photon fired at a double slit produces an interference pattern on the screen if the path of the photon is not observed, implying the photon travels through both slits and interferes with itself. Yet observe that photon and the interference pattern disappears and the photon is always observed travelling through one slit or the other. The interference pattern still disappears if the photon is only observed after it has already travelled through the slits. This is exactly what would be expected if the universe is simulated - only that which is observed would need to be fully rendered.
It's weird, as far back as I can remember, I was convinced we were in a simulation. I have distinct memories of bugs and glitches and strange experiences such as taking my VR headset off and standing on something like a 360 treadmill, wired up to weird machines. I had no idea how to ask my parents about this, but I did my best. They just didn't get it. By the time I was 6 or 7, I guess the matrix managed to convince me it was real and I eventually stopped asking these questions. I grew up in a rural french mountain village with no internet access in the 90's. So I had no way of getting these ideas from an external source. These days, I'm less and less sure that I should have stopped asking questions.
Today, I was jogging at 6.2 speed with no incline on a treadmill. The treadmill suddenly, and unexpectedly, COMPLETELY STOPPED. I was shocked when I looked down and saw the motionless belt. Incredibly, both my feet had stopped also. I felt frozen in place. I had zero loss of balance, or any forward momentum. That exact moment didn't feel real. It was a moment of extreme fear, relief, and amazement. How could I react so quickly without notice? I'm 66 years old, and spend a lot of hours on the treadmill. I primarily speed walk at 4.5 speed, and occasionally jog at 6.2, and sprint at 8.2. I average 45 minutes of duration. Today I had been on the treadmill for just over an hour. I constantly vary my speed, cadence and stride and believe I'm always in total control. I've treadmilled 60+ miles in a day and have published a few posts explaining how I feel a connection between my brain, body, and the treadmill. My focus is locked into a spot on the treadmill headboard throughout my sessions. I'm constantly focused on stride symmetry. This extreme level of focus was perpetuated by my skeletal imbalance. I'm missing a significant part of my shoulder blade due to a jaw transplant. I wouldn't dare consider reinacting what happened today. It doesn't seem physically possible for me to stop simultaneously with the treadmill, and have no loss of balance or feel any forward momentum. Can someone explain how this would support the simulation argument? That moment was the most unreal moment of my life. The next closest were two near death experiences.
Yeah lol. It's so silly how many predictions there are about consciousness when they haven't even defined consciousness or even have a way to test for it scientifically. This is basically just wild crazy sci-fi predictions.
So many what-ifs but until we can answer this question, "What is consciousness," it seems like we're going to be playing with the simulation theory for a while. You can always reduce phenomena to, "what if that's being simulated." Sure you can say, "Your conscious experience is simulated," but what does that mean? To me I think Descartes missed it, it's not, "I think, therefore I am." It's "I feel, therefore I am" I believe feelings (hormonal changes within the body) beget thoughts. A thought only arises until the body has met conditions that creates physical change. You say, "What about meditation? The body can be in isolation but thoughts can still occur." I believe this to be unprocessed phenomena. Once processed, the thoughts will begin to dissolve. Consciousness could very well be all energy in the universe.
A weird thought i just had is that if this is a simulation, all of our history could have been prefabricated in that the real simulation started at any moment. For example the real simulation could have started right before I started writing this. No one would know that it just started 5 minutes ago because everything was designed to seem real and sequential... kinda mind blown by that idea!
In case we are in a simulation I think it's very dangerous to ask what's beyond the simulation, because(given the possibility that this simulation is for educational purposes) becoming aware that we're in a simulation would make the results less genuine and therefore the person running it might decide to terminate the experiment.
Not really. At a certain point of intelligence, the concept of perma-never existence starts to permeate into every part of daily life. Being is better than not being, why would anyone want to not be? There's nothing worth talking about, thinking about, or doing if it's not advancing this seemingly unclearable hurdle. Ignoring it for creating the next generation only puts off the question until eventually the combination of an easier life and the aforementioned intellect boost makes the same questioning pop up. (Though I don't disregard the value of life, make sure you hit the replacement rate!) For me personally, it started at age 4. I could spell dinosaur names at 3, and there has been next to nothing learned outside philosophy and biblical validations. I've been held back from so much potential by feeling the constant void. What value am I gaining from literal emotional, mental and physical stunting through the challenges these questions brought? I know what potential I've lost, and I still feel zero reason to alter that path until I find SOME kind of light forward
If we're in a simulation there are 2 possibilities: 1- They do not want us to know we're in a simulation, so it'll not happen (they'll restart it once we know). 2- They'll tell us we're in a simulation, most likely by actually telling us (like acting like a normal simulated human being who just got a reasonable theory about simulations).
The amount of computing power it would take to do this is mind-boggling. It takes a computer making 2.8 quadrillion computations EVERY SECOND 24 hours a day, just to predict (simulate) the weather for the United States. That's just one tiny aspect of life.

Im surprised the double slit experiment wasnt mentioned in this conversation. The fact that particals behave diffrently when observed is a huge reason to believe that we are living in a simulation
why do so many people misunderstand what it means to observe something
@@Neon-ws8er because it's not standard in English to consider "interaction" when using the word observe. In fact, in most cases in English, they are polar opposites. It's how this experiment got so popular - by abusing this word leading to these misunderstandings.
It's not about someone looking with his eyes ...as in a conscious person. it's about intervention

Correct. BUT it begs the great question.... what's beyond the simulation? Who's running it? Etc. That in itself changes the game!!
Shut up man it's insane to think you're the only one

There has been video-games like the oculus since the 90’s. I can’t remember exactly when, 96’ maybe? I visited the CN Tower in Toronto. Inside the ground floor building there was a huge room with virtual reality games. You got a headset, a gun and stood inside a large hex-shaped crib. The gun was the controller, but where you moved your head is how you turned. The game was a very basic, 3D block-type FPS shooter and multiplayer (supported 4 players). I believe the system that was used was called 3DO.

hmm well that is a good theory, it is almost like we are the something behind the eyes experiencing life.but you could also say we are the sum of all our parts expeiencing this life....the meaning of life is not in a religious book but everywhere to be experienced.when you stop looking is when you find everything.
Few questions, in this approach to reality are you (or your simulated perception) the only being and every other being(agent) is simply made up? If not how would you explain the objectivity of our communally perceived reality before our eyes?
Yup

A perfect simulation, beginning with the creation of the universe, would eventually also result in the creation of the beings running the simulation who would then create a simulation recursively within the simulation itself and it would also be able to predict the future of the beings who created the first level of recursion. The simulation would have to be running in exponentially faster time in relation to the real time of the beings who started the first level of recursion to achieve this.
the universe, bitch! cool stuff
That's what the restriction of light speed is all about. To keep us slower than the programmers.
I'm doing a PhD on VR interaction and simulation. It's a thought that comes to mind all the time the deeper I explore human factors in computing. How we physically interact with the real world and how can we convert this into digital interaction? The thing is, I've found some novel interaction approaches that are being published. If I was to make a time machine this is the time I'd want to visit. The birth of multimodal virtual reality interfaces. It's quite a trippy thought.

To anyone who disagrees with Bostrom saying he invented the simulation argument, he did. There’s a difference between a theory, and an argument. He didn’t develop the theory or be the first to think of it. He wrote a published paper and developed the simulation argument which contains 3 points within the argument using what we know today that makes it hard and basically impossible to refute the argument.

It could be that the entire universe IS a simulation including all beings, if you believe things such as the holographic universe.
It's in the unreal 5 engine now with nanite. The closer you are, the more detail is rendered

You have schizophrenia and should probably be on medication.
Sounds like schizophrenia or psychosis
Everyone talking about simulating consciousness is assuming we can/will know what conscious experience is or how to replicate it. Just sayin...
@@justincase1853 you can simulate a computer within a computer, but the inner computer is always bounded by the computations of the outer computer
To me I think Descartes missed it, it's not, "I think, therefore I am." It's "I feel, therefore I am"
I believe feelings (hormonal changes within the body) beget thoughts.
Joe needs to get Donald Hoffman on the show to understand that spacetime is just the error correcting code required for us to experience life.

If we're in a simulation there are 2 possibilities:
1- They do not want us to know we're in a simulation, so it'll not happen (they'll restart it once we know).
