Joe might appear McDonalds but he is such a good interviewer. He never cuts people off, or tries to push a narrative. He just lets them talk and follows up with questions that show he is listening and curious. Nothing on tv like that. A more accurate comparison would be if McDonalds sold top notch food.

I love listening to scientists like sir Roger and Brian Cox, they are so humble and unpatronising. I think it is because they realise that they know only a very small proportion of all that we can know, and that in time, their theories will be surpassed by future scientists. To know that your knowledge is incomplete is a sign of intelligence.

The average human does have an IQ of a chimp relative to these guys: (average) chimp 40, (average) human 100, Penrose 160. On top of it the precision involved in detecting gravitational waves is so exact that these theories must be on the right track. Another thing: IQ isn't everything but it does speak a lot for deductive abilities. Maybe all this means is we are not so different from chimps though...

Coming back to this after watching other Penrose podcasts, you can really see how much more engaging he is on Joe's podcast. Joe seems to ask the right questions that gets Roger to explain in a calm and focused way.

Right , I meant it as a compliment. I love that he posits outrageous theories of ambitious scope, but can “back it up” with his intellect. I know some are controversial, but sometimes you need that to get the hivemind out of its funk.

Joe Rogan is extremely bright, but when you are in the presence of someone like Sir Roger Penrose you reliaze just how super intelligent some people are. If you aren't aware and in awe of such intelligence you just aren't aware period.
Kinda like how he seems very knowledgeable about cars, but then Chris Harris comes on his podcast.
