Some time you should check out the Pacoche humid forest in mainland Ecuador where the cloud forest not only goes near to the coast like the Galapagos but literally right up to it! There are a few other candidates for sea level cloud forest like ecosystems but as far as I'm aware Pacoche is the only equatorial one (to be fair, on San Cristobal it gets really close to the coast too and perhaps right up to it in the valleys according to what it looks like on satellite, but still not quite as striking). Neat to see such a fascinating ecosystem in detail, the Galapagos seem to be a prime example of "plant blindness" because people only ever focus on the fauna.
Yes, always fascinating to see the equatorial forests in direct contact with ocean. We had the opportunity to spend some time in the Choco forests in Colombia which are incredibly rich just as everybody knows. Pascal has not yet released the film...
I did go so many times to French Guyana since 1978 and regularly in our CNRS field station at Les Nouragues from 1986 to 2003. But I prefer now to visit the forests of many other areas of the world. Of course, I'll come back with Pascal and we'll try to have good images.
