    You know .. it did came half a decade after Skyrim but still the story .. it was the most beautiful game I ever played and the details were so good .. if only Skyrim had this much detail .. ...
    And best part are sound track and realism in this game..

    I like the learning books, it gives a reason to spend money. Since that was a problem in Elder Scrolls that you end up with a ton of money with nothing to spend it on.

  • @Shadowbandits
    @Shadowbandits 5 ปีที่แล้ว +50

    I disagree with your point on the learning points personally, I always liked their uncommonness and the fact that it was easiest to buy them from merchants. In regular Skyrim, I always have a surplus of gold because I never have the need to spend it on anything. However, in this mod, that finally gave me something to use the currency on, and even though that did take a lot of money from me, I still had an additional 25,000+ pennies by the end of the main questline.

      Of course, you have a valid point. It is pretty easy to get around the issue I mentioned, and it seems that quite a few people agreed with you on that point. Though I figured I should include the issue anyways. No XP system is perfect (and this one is better than the OG Skyrim one in my opinion,) though it is important to air out issues! Thank you for watching!

      Also you can always treat merchants who sell skill books as "trainers" if you like it this way. And amount of gold you need per level is just a joke really (once you will start making money in some way and/or invest in rhetorics). 4 crafting points per level is like 80 gold at the begining of the game. 5 learing is like around 500. Price will rise later dramatically but so will your gains.

    For me this mod fixes the biggest problem of a late elder scrolls (after morrowind) : the level scaling. In oblivion/skyrim, ennemies never get harder or easier. Leveling up does noting towards you getting stronger, just the world scaling on you, so you never feel like you are improving, just going through the motion. Here, in enderal, you FEEL every minor upgrade and comming back to a cave or dungeon that kicked your ass and clearing it is probably the best feeling a rpg can give you on a gameplay perspective! Also the hard coded loot gives so much replay value since now I know where that powerfull 2h sword is and how to get it early, just good old rpgs stuff really 👌

    I am truly glad Enderal gets some attention, the game really deserves it for how fantastic it is.
    Also, with content regarding this game, done in english, not german, you manage to fill a certain void present on TH-cam. An empty place for someone talented to present, judge and recommend the work of other also very talented people. I am grateful for that!
    Keep up the good work, I'll be sure to stop by the next video.

    I think the gameplay part of Enderal is genius. Much of the shallowness in Skyrim has been re-worked and improved, often by re-introducing old concepts like Morrowind's artificial scale and the use of limited transportation, the importance of magic on both the setting and the player character, meaning that you have to think more about how you play. The learning books for example are a stroke of pure genius, since it gives meaning to the basic gameplay loop of explore-fight-loot, which often falls flat in actual ES games, since money quickly becomes worthless to a competent PC. This is built upon by some of the early quests and how the economy works; you don't get easy money very quickly and the cost of travel is all given new light by some of the early quests, which a payment of 50 pennies helps out a farm immensely, while for you it's pretty much pocket change halfway into the game.
    Things like where and who you can buy the books from also impact and reflect the world, as for example the changes of magic make a lot of sense. How magic works is used superbly in several quests and many of the new schools are much better than in Skyrim, though some of them are still confusing. Like why are the Detect spells in Mentalism, when Mentalism is about telekinesis in various forms? Why not Light or Entropy, the schools that deal with life and death, or Psionics for example? And an additional complaint about the range of the spells; they're useless for finding ranged enemies, who prefer to stick beyond its maximum range, which is extremely annoying given the extremely dense foliage and bush that dots the landscape. Oftentimes finding an archer requires you to dance in place to try and figure out where the arrows are coming from, which is annoying.
    Though as a mage it was still extremely satisfying to play, since I had to think tactically. Not just in the sense of what spells to use and who to attack first, but where to engage enemies from, when to pull back, when to take cover and when to charge in. In the early game before I acquired the sheed magical muscle to just tank through everything, I would commonly pull back and summon a weak little wolf familiar and send it to sniff out and harass some ranged enemy I couldn't see or reach, giving myself just a moments reprieve to reformulate a new plan. The addition of spell levels also does wonders to the magic combat system, as concentration spells from Destruction no longer completely fall off in damage, maintaining their "OH SHIT HE'S COMING RIGHT FOR ME" place in fights, while the different projectile spells all have their own place as well. Lightning bolts for sniping and anti-mage, Ice Storms for when I need AoE and crowd control and Fireballs when I wanted to pelt a group(though the explosion radius seemed nerfed compared to Skyrim, since it would miss way too often for my liking despite landing right next to the enemy. Maybe it's just the terrain and the way the explosions work in the engine.)
    That said, the game had way too many essential characters. Jesus fuck, I lost it quite a few times and went on console-and-game-mod enable massacre sprees on more than one occassion due to sheer frustration with that shit.

    For me one huge problem with Enderal was that it was too enemy dense. Anywhere you went in the wild you spent 90% of the time clobbering monsters and bandits on every other step and that got tiring quickly. Especially since Skyrim's combat system was always inherently broken and not very much fun at all and enemies respawn in cleared areas quite fast...
    Also friendly outposts are all to rare on the map. Where Nehrim had multiple small villages, farms etc. Enderal has really little. I know it makes sense story wise but it still makes me feel less comfortable going through the world.
    All in all I liked Nehrim MUCH MUCH better.

    • @Wereyoi
      @Wereyoi  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never played Nehrim, but I'll have to give it a go! Funnily enough, something like that was originally on my script except it was about enemy placement in level design being unfair at times. Although after playing through the game some more, it wasn't as prevalent a problem as I originally thought, so I scrapped the line.
      Though I can understand where you're coming from, while, yes it does make sense in the story, a better balance could've probably been achieved!

    Was interesting to read peoples' preferences of the leveling system in the comments. I thoroughly disagree with them. Leveling skills merely by books turned the game into a bit of a gold grind. It completely took away focus from the story for me for a very long time. It also feels a lot less natural and unrelated to the skills themselves. Once I figured out how it works, a few hours in, I realized 'okay, so the next step is to get gold' - so that became the 'main mission' for me for the next period of time. The story, development or actually USING the skills became secondary. At one point, towards the latter half of the game, I bought 15-100 heavy armor in one go, simply because I had nothing more to dump the points into. It just felt unnatural and using abilities didn't feel rewarding in any way. I had nothing against the skyrim system. It was good for main abilities and silly for crafting (crafting iron daggers over and over got boring).
    There's other issues too, such as the fact that you can only find the master abilities for the individual schools by accident. I went destruction and, 75 hours in, I was nowhere near finding ANY of the master skills, let alone all of them. Had to google, and I would have never found them otherwise.

    One of the best Enderal reviews I've watched so far.
    Great job...between the structure, detail, presentation and particularly the way you make it entertaining to actually watch the review (eg music, video editing, etc). My only caveat would be that I believe the "skill books" portion was lackluster. It ignored some of the substantial pros which skill books present (makes characters want to do side quests in addition to the main storyline, to explore (to get more storage space), and it dramatically fixes the economy where you can actually buy things.) There are certainly enough books, it just means you need to explore and interact with merchants more.
    I would certainly be curious as to how many hours you played since I do feel like certain things (like broken AIs) is more of a rarity regarding mod coding (though broken NPC paths due to vanilla Skyrim are much more common). But you seemed to address alot of the points that I think make Enderal different and special. Great job!

    • @Wereyoi
      @Wereyoi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! I'm glad you enjoyed the review!
      I wouldn't hesitate to say that this part of the review is riddled with flaws and it's difficult for me to bring myself to watch it at times. My stance on the skill-books was a bit one-sided due to the nature of the review (with it only focusing on my run-through of the main quest) and if (or really when I suppose) I do come back to redo these reviews in a better way.
      In regards to playtime, I currently have 137 hours and growing in Enderal, however this does not count the approx. 30-40 hours I probably spent back in 2016. The enemy combat AI is certainly not common, but when it does happen, especially in 'boss' fights - it's certainly a bit shaky.
      Thank you for your feedback and I'll keep it in mind while I work on part 3 - I'd recommend checking out the next part if you're interested in the story. I believe that video trumps this one in quite a lot of ways.

    After having released my own very first TH-cam video, I remembered that my old pal had some time ago already released their own entire series about a game I’ve never heard of. I decided to give your video series a watch and after sitting through the whole thing, I’m blown away. Especially from the perspective of someone who just went through all of the video production process, it’s easy to see that this video is incredibly well made. To be honest, I’ve never liked Skyrim or most open world games. They’re just not my thing. I’m highly doubtful that I will ever play Skyrim or Enderal, but even so I found this video very entertaining and informative. I may not enjoy those games, but that doesn’t change the fact that you’ve provided me with an informed appreciation for the game. What little I played of Skyrim long ago made me familiar with the NPC’s that have been memed for acting and sounding robotic and strange. It’s really interesting to see such a massive improvement, especially from fans. Even just watching the voice acting examples provided I feel more engaged in the performance than basically anything in Skyrim. And the more traditional RPG experience system seems like it’d appeal to me a lot more than Skyrim’s Final Fantasy 2-esque style. I may not play or enjoy a game like Enderal, but this video has given me many reasons to respect the hell out of it. I will make sure to recommend Enderal to my friends because basically all of them love Skyrim. Tremendously well done game and video series. If there are any future videos, I will be sure to continue to watch.

I found a ton of armor to sell and trade throughout my entire playthrough. most of my armor upgrades came directly from finding/ battling for it. To me it made the gameplay loop so good. Going on a large adventure, coming back with armor and gold to trade and once you've spent it all, you've become a much stronger character. I think ive spent like 10 hours just running around Ark

A few times I did this by accident finding great gear and summons that surpassed me by a whopping 10 levels. It's up at the top with Witcher 3 etc for me. The Skyrim combat isn't that great anymore, but I LOVE the experience and learn points system like in the old Gothic games. I also love how there is story and details in almost every corner 😍

    41h into it so far; 30% of the map explored. And I LOVE it. The characters are great and believable, the cities (specially Ark) are amazing (compared to the crap that Solitude was), the writing is SO much better than Skirim’s.... Is as if Skyrim was the demo and Enderal the real game.

    • @Wereyoi
      @Wereyoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pfahahahaha, different games for sure, even though they were built in the same engine. But you have to appreciate Skyrim a bit, because without that I don't think we would have Enderal ;)
      But yeh, it's a magical game for sure.

    On the issue with levelling up, I personally liked how you needed to buy skill books to raise your stats. More often than not in an RPG I find myself with thousands of spare coins that I have no use for by late-midgame to endgame. In Enderal however, the player actually needs to make a choice and balance their funds between healing, levelling up and gear.
    Funnily enough, my need for coin was actually what lead me to the Rhalata DLC, since I heard about the fight club in the Pits and thought that it would be a good way to try and earn some money to level up. So even though it was purely an accident, this particular game mechanic was what naturally lead me to discover an entire questline.

    the only things i have actual complaints about in enderal are: enemy placement is beyond poor, and the problem with replayability since a lot of the story relies on plot twists

    The fact that this is your first video is incredible. You really captured how magical this game is. It felt more like a video essay than a review, and the developer interview helped that! Also thank you for gushing about the music, somehow other reviewers almost skipped over it, but I felt it was one of the best aspects of the game.

    anyone watching this now. is there anyyyyy way i can like donate money to this dev team or the people behind it. i cant believe im saying this but after 500 hours ive seen all the areas and been in allll the dungeons... and still havent done half the paths

    • @Wereyoi
      @Wereyoi  ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as donations go I have no idea what happened to their donation link. However they do have a shop: sureai.net/shop/
      The division of profits etc. I can't speak on, but that seems to be the most direct way to support Sure A.I. other than buying their newer games (not like Enderal but I believe their next project is an RPG, don't quote me though.)
      The old dev team has moved on to bigger and better things, as they should they certainly deserve it. However, Nicholas Lietzau wrote a book in the spirit of Enderal (due to legal reasons it's called the Twelfth World) if you want to support the writer. Book is titled "Dreams of the Dying". I believe it follows Jespar's adventures

    What a great job you've done with this video review! I'm definitely looking forward to more (though I'd probably have to hold off on the Story video for awhile, since I've barely started the story of this game).

    • @Wereyoi
      @Wereyoi  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’ll probably have finished the story by the time the next video comes out. Since part 2 is shaping up to be longer than part 1 xP and these videos take easily 100+ hours to make.
      In terms of what’s next, I honestly have no idea. I might cover other large scale mods Forgotten City and the like. Things that have a large focus on story. I also am entertaining the idea of branching out to Mass Effect, The Witcher, or other popular story-driven RPGs. Though we’ll see when we get there

    Alrighty, so people are leaving some comments that for some reason I'm unable to see :L I don't know what is going on, but I can answer their questions through comments & hopefully they'll see!
    Yes! Part 2 is in the works (unfortunately I was unable to really work on it in Nov. and Dec. due to university work) I've just recorded a couple of my first takes on the script yesterday and I hope to do a final take sometime before the end of the week to open the weekend for myself to begin to video edit.
    Scripting takes ~30-40 hours (because I constantly rewrite and edit my script because I worry a lot about my script)
    Usually, audio editing and mixing takes ~14 hours - Video editing takes ~24 hours
    If I can get the time I want, I'll be able to get the video out within the next couple of weeks!
