I'm a bit of a silent viewer, so when I saw this pop up I had to comment because I'm from Glasgow and it was so nice and surprising to see you live here and were featuring some of these awesome shops! I was part of the kickstarter/gofundme type thing that helped Mount Florida books get started and I always pop in when I'm southside 😊 category is is one I need to go into more, it's a lovely space. I hadn't heard of the last one so I'll absolutely be checking that out! Bigglestones was a new find for me too recently, I had no idea it was so new! Loved this 😊
I actually bumped into someone who watches my channel on Byres Road a little while ago and he was surprised I live here lol I love this city so much 💜

I travel down from Perth twice a year to visit my favourites Voltaire and Rousseau, and Thistle Books in the West End. Might check a couple of your recommendations out on my next trip.

thought I’d recommend a wee bookshop I think you’ll love in Stirling called the Book Nook. It’s mainly second hand books but they have a great stock of queer books and so much more, they’re also a coffee shop!

Wow! I had no idea you lived in Glasgow! One of my best friends lives opposite Category Is and I always try and pop in. However I find it's opening hours can be a little hit or miss.
Voltaire and Rousseau was a great book shop, but you could not go in with what you want due to the mountains of books, you came out with a 5 book history of the publishing industry in the Transvaal.
Yeah I often get the urge to visit Category Is, only to realise they’re not open that day. But every visit is memorable!
I skipped the second hand bookshops (there are like five in the West End alone) because they’re all pretty similar (still great though!)

The couple who run Category is Books have wonderful taste! I didn't leave myself enough time to browse when I visited but in ordering online later, I gave them a description of the person I was buying for and they picked out the perfect badge to match her and the book I was sending her. Wish I'd known about the comics shop while I was in Glasgow too.

Loved Glasgow so much and I was lucky enough to visit Good Press over there, which felt so nice and welcoming. I still think about how lovely that bookstore was and I think it’s independent, if I’m not mistaken

How good is it when you find a good bookstore. Ive recently found a small bookstore i love, i can get a coffee an then look through the bookstore an its amazing.
This might sound a bit weird but the book store is a lot more liberal then the chain ones im used too an as a cis white male i was finding it a bit intimidating. But once i got talking to the staff, it was amazing they stock soo much better stuff then the regular chain stores an its such a warm welcoming vibe.
I totally understand that. I have cishet friends who feel intimidated in queer spaces for a number of perfectly reasonable reasons. Often it’s because they don’t want to encroach on a space that isn’t “theirs” or it’s because they don’t know the culture
@WillowTalksBooks mine was definitely a lack of understanding the culture, it's now my favourite place to shop at.
That was fun! Just yesterday I watched some old videos (you may have changed but your opinion is always important) and in one you say you dream of owning a small bookshop. Is that still the case? ❤📚
Last year, I read a book on how to start a bookshop, saved up some money, and even looked at a viable space, but ended up scrapping my plans because it was all just too overwhelming. It felt like I had so much to lose and too many unknowns. I’ve not actually told this story until now but that’s basically what happened. I scared myself out of doing it. But I still think I’ll end up opening a bookshop one day, maybe a few years from now :)

Would you say that City Centre Comics stocks graphic novels and indie stuff as well or is it more centered around “class comics” ?
Depends what you mean by those things, I guess. There’s plenty of Image and Dark Horse stuff, and as many TPBa as single issues. But I haven’t seen any graphic novels like Tillie Walden or Craig Thompson
These shops are gems! Does anyone know if these bookstores accept crypto for payment?
I’m pretty sure no shop on Earth accepts crypto. You could try using money?
I`d advise getting a card to which you can transfer crypto and then use it as a regular payment card. for instance, banxe card. they have low fees and you can use it everywhere.
