I’m a 59 year old grandmother who still pretends every day! Especially in summer. Even if it’s just in my mind and people can’t tell on the outside that on the inside I’m in a cooking competition, or Cinderella cleaning the villa, or visiting a secret garden. It makes my chores more fun. Also, a huge huge thanks for the messy mermaid hair!! I have a 9-year old granddaughter whose hair is straight in some areas and curly in others and no matter how she brushes it, it comes out exactly like messy mermaid hair. It totally delighted her when I showed her photos on Pinterest. She is actually proud of her hair now!! Thank you!! You made a child happy!!!
I do that too! And im 64! Today I wore a 3 tiered dress with a very Avonlea apron and imagined myself in olden days. My younger self would never have thought I would be like this at this age, but now I realize my essential self never changes. Pretty dresses, fancy tea cups and pots on pretty trays takes me away to places romantic.

Same here. On my days off I just stay inside in bed and read. I try taking my dog out for walks early in the morning but it's already hot even at 8 a.m here, I hate it so much 😔 It's very humid where I live too ... I can't wait for autumn but summers are super long here...

*As a summer depression person (yeah that’s a real thing, like winter depression) my summer routine is: stay inside and survive!* Too much sunlight and heat causes me to have circulatory collapse, migraines, extreme tiredness and nausea. Not to mention that I burn like a vampire. Summer is simply no fun. In autumn, winter and spring, however, I have full batteries.
Yeah, I prefer winter and fall hands down. Not the biggest fan of summer just bc it gets sooo hot where I’m at. I also get headaches and just overall more tired than usual. It may sound weird but I’m not in the best mood during summer a lot of the time lol. But I find videos like this fun because it helps me deal with it 😂I can’t change the weather so might as well find some fun/cute things to do until fall and winter comes 🍁 ❄️
A Swedish folklore student here! Usually it's said that you'll dream of your future spouse, but I really enjoy the idea of it "just" being your heart's desire. There are so many different variations to this folk tradition - pick the flowers during silence (and not speak until you've woken up the morning after), jump over seven fences while picking said flowers... Midsummer is definitely my favorite celebration, tied with our Swedish Lucia/St. Lucy's day.
The one we did as young girls was to jump 7 fences (or gärdesgårdar) i total silence. After every fence you climbed, you picked one flower and they couldn't be the same sort of flower. The silence part was reallly, really difficult trying not to giggle when your skirt got stuck in the posts.

That was me all summer when we lived in Utah! 95-103 allllll summer. But I still looooved it! The heat could be difficult, for sure, but I chose to work with it as much as possible instead of fighting it. We would go swimming a lot! Lots of water activities and being active outside in the morning and evening ☺️

And it's literally different variations of summer for 7-8 months here. With temperature reaching 45-50 C (113-122 F) and high humidity. It's literally unbearable. As someone in the UK I yearn for summer, as grey, cold and damp for 8 months of the year can be exhausting. We haven't really started spring yet this year with the temps still at about 57 - grey, cold and damp with extra wind and high humidity. Maybe move to the UK ...

As a girl who has been living her whole life in a tiny little village in the south of Spain, where traditions and popular folcklore keep being honored, I have grown up seen my grandmother carrying out a special ritual for summer's solstice. That evening, we fill a bowl with water from 7 different fountains and then we add rose petals and rosemary. The bowl must spend the night outside, receiving moonlinght. The next day, you have to wash your face with this water, which is thought to be magical... this way you make sure that you keep your beauty for another year!!

I made a cold strawberry soup for a dinner party I hosted last weekend and everyone loved it! I used just picked strawberries that I bought from a roadside stand - outstanding! and so easy to make!
Summer lost its appeal for me probably around college times. Now I'm almost 40 and it's something to get through until Fall. The heat, the bugs, the inevitable sunburns on my fair skin...😫 but I am SO HAPPY someone can enjoy it so thoroughly.

I live for the summer. All year, I go through a state of driving to and from a thankless job every day and simply _existing_ until the sun and warm air banish the cold and dark. My vacation from work started today, and I wasn't even excited for it because all day yesterday, I dealt with rude customers and a demeaning boss. My daughter,granddaughter and I tried a new ice cream shop that was started by a 14 year old girl. I had an old fashioned banana split, my daughter had mango sriracha and hot wing ice cream and the granddaughter had cotton candy and mermaid ice creams with gummy bears! She even had a photo setup. When Taylor Swifts movie came out she had special flavors. It was such a cute ice cream shop. Thanks for the recommendations.

Summer is my FAVORITE season and I am loving all of these recommendations!! Something that is on my summer bucket list is to have a summer camp themed day for my friends. I recently moved to live in the middle of the Maine woods! It’s my childhood log cabin where I grew up and where I had my first summer heart break. It’s a big life change. I have no running water, no electricity, no wifi. But here I am still watching my Darling Desi’s video(granted a week later)😅 now that I’m in New England I hope I run into you someday Desi, maybe on a beach or in a library somewhere 🫶 but I understand why you would want to move away, we have a little homestead here in the woods and the ticks are INSANE. A suggestion for another show that's ideal for this time of year: "Summer Camp Island." If lo-fi music was a show, this is what it would look like. It's the coziest, softest, mellowest, most... pastel-candy-coated kawaii cabincore comfort show that you could ever imagine. It is mainly intended for kids (it's a somewhat obscure gem from Cartoon Network), but this is one of those rare cartoons that really can be enjoyed by all ages, and has a good plot to go with all the "vibes." I mean, I'm 40, and I find it relaxing to watch a few episodes at night before going to sleep. Season 1 was good, but honestly it keeps getting better with each season.
I keep seeing these videos and they are seriously reminding me to enjoy my summer. I was on a reading kick at the beginning of summer, but reading is so much better outside, which is hard since it’s been +30 Celsius (86 Fahrenheit), so I haven’t been reading. there's a childhood memory that i want to recreate this summer; me and my grandmother and my siblings sit on the balcony and talking and talking about our life, sticking our feet in tubs of icy water and just eating some yummy posicles! tons of them, and just laugh about random things! (this was back before she had chairs on her balcony and had air conditioning in her apartment, but it's still possible!)

I read Every Summer After per your recommendation and it was a 5 star read! I'm not typically a huge romance girly but this romance was absolutely beautiful and I truly felt like a whole new person after reading it. Inspired by Percy and Sam, I actually ended up braiding myself an anklet with embroidery thread and I've been saying it is 'hot girl anklet summer'. So that is an activity recc and you get a fun summery accessory at the end of it! To all my summer specific SAD friends in the comments, I hear you and I'm sending my love. Dress in comfy, lightweight clothes and curl up with a book inside or throw on one of the summer movies. We've got this!
The thing with the 7 different flowers is true - originally you had to pick all the different flowers on 7 different lands (you would jump the cow fence over to the neighbors) Midsummer in Sweden is nice, you should celebrate it here once you have moved a bit closer! 😊

Oh absolutely reading the book is the reward. My form of self care is cozying up in the evening with my annotating supplies and my book, that is my reward after a busy day. I just think it adds extra fun to completing a summer reading list by “rewarding” myself with little things like a new bookmark or ice cream cone, just for the fun and nostalgia of it 🥰

I joined my libraries summer reading challenge, it’s pretty fun and there is the potential to win some prizes! Part of the challenge is also about using library resources like museum/park passes or going to library programs which I think also helps contribute to fun summer activities. I recommend folks looking into if there local has a similar program.

My sister is that way, I'm susceptible to heat stroke but I enjoy Summer all the same, thankfully it isn't too hot where I live.

And it's literally different variations of summer for 7-8 months here. With temperature reaching 45-50 C (113-122 F) and high humidity. It's literally unbearable. As a girl who has been living her whole life in a tiny little village in the south of Spain, where traditions and popular folcklore keep being honored, I have grown up seen my grandmother carrying out a special ritual for summer's solstice. That evening, we fill a bowl with water from 7 different fountains and then we add rose petals and rosemary. The bowl must spend the night outside, receiving moonlinght. The next day, you have to wash your face with this water, which is thought to be magical... this way you make sure that you keep your beauty for another year!!

I live for the summer. All year, I go through a state of driving to and from a thankless job every day and simply _existing_ until the sun and warm air banish the cold and dark. My vacation from work started today, and I wasn't even excited for it because all day yesterday, I dealt with rude customers and a demeaning boss. This is my favorite time of year, and I let other people steal my joy in it. This video has been a welcome 'shock' back into my happy summer mode, thank you!

DESI. I was making tea in my kitchen and found myself randomly reminiscing about the summers i spent at my grandma's-- eating popsicles, running through sprinklers and taking photos with disposable cameras and taking the film to get developed, etc....
Then I sat down, and this was the FIRST video in my TH-cam recommended. I'm literally going to buy a disposable camera and popsicle molds today 😭😍

My daughter,granddaughter and I tried a new ice cream shop that was started by a 14 year old girl. I had an old fashioned banana split, my daughter had mango sriracha and hot wing ice cream and the granddaughter had cotton candy and mermaid ice creams with gummy bears! She even had a photo setup. When Taylor Swifts movie came out she had special flavors. It was such a cute ice cream shop. Thanks for the recommendations.

I recently moved to live in the middle of the Maine woods! It’s my childhood log cabin where I grew up and where I had my first summer heart break. It’s a big life change. I have no running water, no electricity, no wifi. But here I am still watching my Darling Desi’s video(granted a week later)😅 now that I’m in New England I hope I run into you someday Desi, maybe on a beach or in a library somewhere 🫶 but I understand why you would want to move away, we have a little homestead here in the woods and the ticks are INSANE. A suggestion for another show that's ideal for this time of year: "Summer Camp Island." If lo-fi music was a show, this is what it would look like. It's the coziest, softest, mellowest, most... pastel-candy-coated kawaii cabincore comfort show that you could ever imagine. It is mainly intended for kids (it's a somewhat obscure gem from Cartoon Network), but this is one of those rare cartoons that really can be enjoyed by all ages, and has a good plot to go with all the "vibes." I mean, I'm 40, and I find it relaxing to watch a few episodes at night before going to sleep. Season 1 was good, but honestly it keeps getting better with each season.

there's a childhood memory that i want to recreate this summer; me and my grandmother and my siblings sit on the balcony and talking and talking about our life, sticking our feet in tubs of icy water and just eating some yummy posicles! tons of them, and just laugh about random things! (this was back before she had chairs on her balcony and had air conditioning in her apartment, but it's still possible!)

Not a lot of people to this anymore though. There is also an old tradition where you would go outside and roll around in the morning dew at dawn. It was said to give you good health

I saw somewhere online that a company was selling screenless digital cameras. So you are essentially getting the disposable camera nostalgia & experience without the disposable part or the hassle & cost of going to the store to get pictures printed.

it's not summer rn where i live but summers here can be absolutely EXHAUSTING, it's so hot you're actually advised to stay indoors. because of this, i've always struggled with seasonal depression during the summer, but i want to make my summers a little bit happier and try to not melt into the floor by doing some summer activities. thanks for this video, i'll definitely be trying some of these out!
I read Every Summer After per your recommendation and it was a 5 star read! I'm not typically a huge romance girly but this romance was absolutely beautiful and I truly felt like a whole new person after reading it. Inspired by Percy and Sam, I actually ended up braiding myself an anklet with embroidery thread and I've been saying it is 'hot girl anklet summer'. So that is an activity recc and you get a fun summery accessory at the end of it!

The thing with the 7 different flowers is true - originally you had to pick all the different flowers on 7 different lands (you would jump the cow fence over to the neighbors) Midsummer in Sweden is nice, you should celebrate it here once you have moved a bit closer! 😊
I wouldn't "reward" myself for finishing a book, the book itself was a reward hence why I purchased it in the first place lol. Reading shouldn't be a chore.

Oh absolutely reading the book is the reward. My form of self care is cozying up in the evening with my annotating supplies and my book, that is my reward after a busy day. I just think it adds extra fun to completing a summer reading list by “rewarding” myself with little things like a new bookmark or ice cream cone, just for the fun and nostalgia of it 🥰

I joined my libraries summer reading challenge, it’s pretty fun and there is the potential to win some prizes! Part of the challenge is also about using library resources like museum/park passes or going to library programs which I think also helps contribute to fun summer activities. I recommend folks looking into if there local has a similar program.
Mine does and they gave us a little booklet of fun activities you can do and if so many do it: they will plant a tree!
