Thanks for this video. I have built a hoop house myself with raised beds. I wanted to build some low tunnels for my raised beds on a second group of beds. Because of your help I will be able to. Thank you and God bless
Awesome build... simple but effective. Keeping a can of “air in a can” in the shop is handy for blowing out sawdust from pockets and recesses and saves dragging out air lines for small jobs. Loved watching the dogs playing like a couple of rambunctious kids
Thanks for the video, this is great! Really helpful! I've watched a handful of other videos and this will save me some money and looks much better then the others!!
God job. I've decided to build the hoops as a solid glued line. I want to run water through them. In spring some over head to bring up seeds. Down below for later some other type that will water from under the plants. Haven't decided what yet. I haven't seen a vid yet that does that.
Very nice! If your plastic doesnt hold up very well - real greenhouse plastic ist worth its money, it lasts for years through all weathers. We do have a similar low tunnel in our veggie garden here in northern Germany, but we wrapped that in a plastic with lots of holes (its called "Frühbeetfolie" here). Not that much protection for the plants, but a little more airflow, since it can get pretty hot in a lowtunnel. We do have another raised bed topped with a greenhouse-plastic-lid, but that one we fitted with an automatic greenhouse window opener, with is really handy. Greetings, and keep healthy!
Since you aren't using expensive greenhouse plastic, why not just remove the plastic when the weather warms up and replace it with insect screening to help with pest control? Might be easier than removing the frame and get the bug control benefit too. Some veg will need pollinators for a time so that would need to be considered. Great job.
JudithB Glad I watched this again and the one from Lumnah Acres too! I will save 2x4s your way, and buying bolts by using deeper holes for my pvc. I am going to put row cover on my hoops to keep bugs out of the greens, and can add plastic in the fall for winter. I will add a gate hook to the front and like the chains on yours!! Thanks Evan and Rebecca!!
Good video. Excellent presentation and sharing. I enjoy your videos. Also, appreciate your being frugal and using, as much as possible, what you have on hand. ☝🇺🇸🙏💪👉
You made that look so easy! Simple, not over complicated, and functional! And the puppies are too cute. We have a mini Australian Shepherd as well and she's still high energy after 3 years but always has us laughing and shaking our heads lol
Thank you soo much for this video, I have been building one in my mind and didn't quite know how to do the end of the plastic. I'm saving the video so I can follow it when I am building my hoop covers. Thank you again.
The ridge pole is a great idea. My only suggestion is to leave the ribs a full 10'. The pvc and the plastic already come 10' stock and the extra air space will maintain its temp longer. If stability is a concern, you could use 1/2" metal conduit like I do for Wisconsin snow
I had plans of doing this when I find my new homestead land down south, hopefully this month. Well, as soon as my baby brother and my moms estates are taken care of. I
Real good video Evan. I love how you articulate and film what's necessary for us to get the best understanding from your tutorial videos. Gosh your place looks wonderful. I love how you work together and have the pups romping around near you 👍❣️ Great way to start the growing season 😄
Nice design and construction. Hope it works as you want it to. Just for fun, when ending a video you should say, "that's a wrap folks." Nobody else does it. Might catch on. Stay rested!
This is what 'Grocer's do'... grow 'Out of Season' goods to be able to sell 'fresh' produce all year round. The difference being 'Homesteaders' are primarily growing to feed their own families (more 'organically') but there are MANY Homesteaders who have 'Market Gardens' and sell their 'fresh' produce as well. They sell LOCALLY while the big guys SHIP their goods EVERYWHERE. We always start out saying, 'Oh we just wanna, we just wanna...!' But EVERYTHING GROWS! We will come to a point again where there are generations going to the grocery stores shopping for their meals... it's a 'repeated' cycle.
Those low tunnels are dope! If I ever get around to winter veggie gardening, I'm stealing this design, don't worry, I'll drop your name so you at least get credit.
Nice if you know how to actually construct something like that, I would not know where to start! I think a handle or two to help lift the tunnel would make it easier. And I would use a hook instead of chain, just to make it more stable. And... it would be good to be able to raise and keep open the tunnel just a little bit, to air it. Just suggesting. I am so curious what your job is if you feel like sharing it. or you might have mentioned it and I missed it. Best wishes
So why did you countersink the washer and bolt on the carriage bolt? Is that a 3/8" carriage bolt? Thank you for the informative video. I live in a windy area and that design with the carriage bolts will hold up better against the wind.
Great video! I was thinking of doing something like that on my beds but i wasn't sure how to attach the PVC to the frame. Thanks for the idea! Keep up the good work!
How high would you make your hoophouse for cucumber and tomato I would like to make one but not sure how high to go I have a problem with squirrels if l has a hoophouse it would keep the squirrels out any help would be appreciated thank bill
@@CountryViewAcres Are you able to harvest any lettuce, etc. over the winter? ... or will this just give you foot up on the earliness of harvest in the spring? Thanks...
James Tate the during strips that he screwed down on top of the plastic to hold it tight. His design is absolutely perfect! Give it a try just as he built it instead of looking for the negative points of everything and you may be surprised at how well something works! I have beds that I built a few years ago that are almost identical except Evan took it to the next level. Mine are not hinged do my plastic is attached the same as his on the backside but the front I only use 3 Home Depot spring clamps to hold the plastic to the hoops so wind could get under mine if it wanted to but never has and after two full years of use I have yet to lose the plastic or the hoops a single time yet so his will be there till a tornado comes. And I am in hurricane territory so it’s been thu extremely high winds and there’s not even a rip in the plastic yet. Go build one today just as Evan did and you will be impressed, I promise you!!
Greetings from Boys' Life magazine! We are currently searching for images of a Hoop House and came across this video. Do you have any images of this Hoop House that you would consider sharing with us?
wow this is great timing I was thinking about doing this this afternoon and trying to think of a easy way of building one then I clicked on your channel and sure enough the planets must have aligned for me today lol
Great video, straight to the point, no rubbish preliminaries, and well constructed.

That was amazing to watch. I can’t wait to see how the garden grows. You’re quite the handy man.

Nice setup you made.
Great job Evan. You make it look so easy. Stay healthy and safe.
You may want to put a hook latch on front in case High winds might pull them off.

Nice job, really simple and looks like it's going to work great.
Don't know about where you are, but around here the wind can be wicked. I'd put a chain on the other end of the tops, too.
I bet you were a heck of a stage builder, your club must miss you.

New subscriber, enjoyed this so much. You are a great teacher. 🤗
Great video! I was thinking of doing something like that on my beds but i wasn't sure how to attach the PVC to the frame. Thanks for the idea! Keep up the good work!
And in the end the puppies steal the show.
You sure make that look easy
It would b a disaster if I did it
Great build nice and easy just how i like my builds.
Looks like your dogs were having some fun at the end there?

Puppies! Maggie! 🐶🐶❤️🐶
Stop walking on your soil, you're packing it down😥 real nice vedio and great yard/garden!
i so enjoy what you do and build on your homestead..great job!! will you ever do the fencing around the garden soon?
I hope to soon. I am afraid the dogs will dig up the garden.
I'm an electrician, and I hate it when the plants around here do shutdowns and we go in and do 12 hour shifts. Make alot of money but it sux! Ha!
Nice tunnels. I lost it laughing when you squirted the pup!
How well did your low tunnel work for the cold crops. Did it extend the season much longer into the winter? What zone are you in?
Zone 5b, I still have lettuce in them now. The leaves have gotten a little frost bitten on the edges, but still alive
@@CountryViewAcres Are you able to harvest any lettuce, etc. over the winter? ... or will this just give you foot up on the earliness of harvest in the spring? Thanks...
What going to prevent air from getting under the plastic and lifting hoops of if the bolts ?

Nice! Always love the curly haired supervisor. The other two employees were slacking in the corner. Digging?
Probably wrestling. They either wrestle or sleep.
Good job. Makes me wanna do a few myself. So are you going to grow chili peppers and bell peppers in the low tunnels in the summer? Cheers

ok 👍🏼😉🇧🇷❤🇧🇷
Great video production Evan 👍liked all the different camera angles 👌,without being to specific, what part of Illinois are you in?
Southeastern Illinois near the wabash river bordering Indiana.
