The whole reason I follow you is because of the level of RESPECT you have for these people. The humanity you have towards these people despite your differences. I respect you immensely. People can learn a lot from you. I would never have watched your videos if you bashed the community. You have an Absolutely wonderful channel. Thank you .

@@jameschicken1008 if there’s one thing I find really annoying, is the anti-semitism, which unfortunately, still seems to be rather rampant 😢 I work in a nursing home, and one of the residents happens to be a 90 year old Jewish woman, who’s very classy.

Thank you so much for the way you show this community. I’m Frum, but not Satmar, but it pains me the way we are all being portrayed in media recently. I appreciate you showing the good values, warmth, and positive side of this community. We don’t all have to agree with each other, but it sure helps if we can understand each other. Being a closed off community helps them to protect themselves from outside negative influences, but it also allows the proliferation of great misunderstandings, in both directions. Hashem put you here to be a window into this world for outsiders. Thank you for being a Blessing to us all.

The people in the community are very closed, so they don't like talking to the outside world about their community.
The people who love talking about it are the people who hate it. And many of them are people who left the community because they experienced mistreatment and even abuse.
While the community isn't perfect, it's unfortunate that it's being portrayed by a few men and women who have had bad experiences and have a deep hatred to the community and everything in it generalizing everyone into one hate ball.
That's why I love watching Freida's content, honest portrayal of the community.

  • @irapweiss

I realize that most Satmar Hassidim have difficulty accepting your uncovered hair, pants, and most of all, of course, your leaving the community. So, most probably can't appreciate that you are the most effective ambassador for the Hassidic community that exists anywhere. I have never come across another OTD individual who projects the understanding, respect, empathy, and love for the community that they left behind. כל הקבוד ויישר כחיך!

I absolutely love that you acknowledge that you left the community because it didn't work for you, and not because you think the communal life, values and traditions are barbaric, wrong and traumatizing like so many others who leave make it seem. It is so mature of you go to back to the community to learn more and see it through a different lens, even though that way of life doesn't work for you. Amazing!

As someone who was a firm believer of the Hasidic way of life and part of a Satmar family,
And also as someone who wrote 30+ songs to glorify the Hasidic culture (and they still sing my songs today in all Yiddish speaking Hasidic communities-
even though I left that world 14 years ago.
Some of my songs were published and sung by men and boys)
All that to say, that as you can imagine I love the people in my community, and I always will.
But the way of life in the community does not work for everyone at all, and I have to agree with this commenter, that many ARE traumatized if they did not ‘fit the mold’ and were caused suffering because of it,
Or, like me, if they had a rude awakening and saw the underbelly of things that go on behind the scenes by the leaders that don’t add up with the values that are taught

    • @trupinys1979
      @trupinys1979 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I'm shocked by the number of people who liked this comment. If it's an oppressive culture that does not allow young women any freedom, and marries them off at the earliest legal age possible, it DOES traumatize people. Myself, I was nowhere near mature enough for marriage, let alone children, at 18. Such a thing would've ended me (if I couldn't escape).
Why on Earth would you say people who leave "make it seem" traumatizing or barbaric? Why do you invalidate their experiences just because you don't like what they're saying?

When my family and I visited NYC this past summer, I decided I wanted to tour this unique community. I was torn, as a social worker I had zero interest in visiting a community where I felt like a person visiting the zoo. Rather I wanted something who respected the community, an insider who would be careful in how they approached the tour. The last thing I wanted for my family was to load a bus and listen over a loud speaker as someone who knew little explained the community in less than respectful terms. I found Frieda's tour pretty quickly and I was so glad I did. My family got a a lot from the tour. Frida has a unique story to share that is is every bit as interesting as the tour, though that is great as well. Thank you for giving my family this education and I am so glad I get to continue to follow your work on-line Frida. Happy new year to you, Seth and your whole family.

Opening up conversations about hidden Jewish communities is vital to understanding their world for us on the outside. Understanding is at the core of tolerance. Thanks for the kind, loving way you present the culture of this community. I, too, grew up in a religious community, only Catholic. Faith is at the core of my daily life, and centers my belief in the hereafter and the now. This is so reminiscent of the Jewish lives I see in your videos. Thanks.

Love how you respect and never downgrade or judge. Growing up very similar to yours, but in a small town. It was strict, humbling, but can’t talk bad about it. I still have some family in that community, and would defend my siblings regardless. I guess the words is I love the way we love each other. Even though, I’m not as strict, one of my sisters. She is suppose to keep her distance, but she can’t. She still sees me as the little baby she’d carry around or defending growing up. Nothing can change that kind of love. My English is probably not written correctly, but it’s okay.

Love this highlight & background. You are genuine, radiate warmth, sincerity, and curiosity-why I love watching your videos. I grew up in an CT neighborhood within walking distance to the Orthodox synagogue. And though I'm not Jewish, my mom had us kids attend the local JCC nursery school. I grew up not only with lots of Jewish friends from the neighborhood & town, but did lots babysitting, mother's helper jobs thru teen+ years. After college I ended up working as teacher at my old nursery school with the same director still there from my childhood. How wonderful! I love learning and discovering about - basically everything. With videos like yours, I can continue as traveling etc is more difficult for me. Hoping to come into Brooklyn sometime to join one of your neighborhood explorations. TFS!

Interesting story. I am an academic historian over here in Central NJ. I'm fairly certain my recent searches for supplemental educational videos on Canaan, First and Second Temple Judaism are why TH-cam sent me to your channel.
And I dare say ... I really enjoy what you are doing. It's really valuable work on multiple levels. I've known many Jews in my life, personally and professionally (and in within my extended family) but they are all secular, reform, conservative or mildly observant Israelis. So the insights into Hasidim have been interesting - despite my own secular atheism and my objections to certain kinds of religious practices.
It's also worth saying this: I've taught in college classrooms for me years now and really appreciate the kind, probing tone you take in your interviews. It's a real skill and it's not natural to everyone, so someone needs to tell you that you have that talent. I hope you already realized that based on the popularity of those interview videos.
Perhaps I shall pop into Williamsburg at some point soon and take one of your tours. It's been a while since my college days hanging out in hipster Williamsburg and, you know, I never really did get to see it from a Jewish perspective.
Best of luck in your endeavors.
    ______
P.S. i am learning the Hebrew script for fun at lately and realized that with a little work, i could probably read Yiddish since i already know Standard German. Another reason to perhaps come on one of your tours!

I don't know why you ended up in my time-line but im enjoying your channel. Thank you for opening up the community to us non-Jewish people. We can all learn. I lived in NYC for decades and knew a lot about the community. This is fascinating.

God speaks to each of us uniquely. Just like a father does with each of his children. However you choose to practice comes from your unique relationship with him. He loves us all the same. Your love for your upbringing comes through in your videos. And I always look forward to watching them

First time I bumped into your channel Raizel. I was surprised you have this channel awhile yet I didn’t know.
As someone who came from a very strict base orthodox community. I find your channel very warm and meaningful. Not only for someone like me, but also for others who never had the chance to really see what’s it’s all about.
I’m tired of those who leave the circle and feel the need to be negative full of despise animosity toward home life. Their total intent is to bash and shout how foolish life is on the inside. However you deal with it with grace honoring respect and glory.
We all have our paths our connection. Just because it’s different from yours doesn’t mean you or I am wrong or right. As many other commenters praise your respect that you show.
Therefore I joined I watch I connect and appreciate what you have here.
Beseiros Tovos. Wishing you best of everything. Looking forward to new content. With blessings!!

I just want to say you are just as much part of the Jewish community as me - once a jew always a jew and nothing in the world can take that away - we are one whole. everything that you do effects the world around you and affects everyone at large - these are your poeple and it's still your community as well....

I don’t know how I found you on Utube but I really like your videos. I’m curious about this religion. As a woman I can see that your life is mapped out for you, no deviation. There is a strong sense of family which I appreciate and a more grounded way of life. Thank you for sharing.

I don't like labels but if there has to be one, I would define myself as modern orthodox, finding that to be the blend that suits me regarding observance and the practicalities of modern living. Now having said that not being FFB I find your videos to be very informative in teaching me about the basis of many customs that I see practiced. Keep up the good work.

I just happened to come upon your videos. I live in a community in NJ and there is a large influx of Hasidic in our neighborhood coming from Brooklyn. We want to better understand who they are and what they believe. Since we are all here we need to coexist. Your videos are helping me to understand more.
