Arnold Cardon mentioned asbestos in these old bakelite handles. It is something to know. We're wet sanding and not creating dust to inhale. With no repeated exposure. That said, best not to dry sand these old handles just to be safe.
Me too! Although my last batch seems a bit less polishy? Not sure if they changed anything. I did get it from Amazon. Maybe I'll pick some up locally and compare. I've used it for so many things it's mind blowing :)
@@xetaprime You should do a video on the ways Mothers Mag can be used! I'm sure there are some I haven't even thought of, and it would be interesting to see if anybody else goes through it like crazy.
I've had pretty good luck soaking the handles in Armor All overnight. They wipe off lookin much better with newly restored life and don't feel greasy at all. Sanding off the top oxidized surface before soaking would likely have them looking like new again.
Thank you so very much. I just inherited my grandmother’s Revere pot with a copper bottom. I have no idea how to age this pot but it’s very cool. It was passed down from my grandma to my mom and now me. My Mom is now 92 years young. I am so happy to own this special pot. Thank goodness I found you to save the handle, it’s so dull and dry. Thank again for your video. 😊
I received a copper bottom pot as a gift 22 years ago and its the best pot that I have ever owned! (You know you're an old lady when you talk about your favorite revere pot 😄)
Looking for ideas re: two of my pots/very old sauce pan and frying pan. Cleaned the handles but not good enough. Can I use heat resistant paint just on the handles?
Comment disappeared! Tried the cleaning, didn't work. Can I use black heat resistant spray paint on the handles? Want a few more years with these two pans
I can't say for sure but, in the olden days, aluminum skillets had wood handles that were painted black. Google painting bakelite. Lots of posts. I've never tried it myself though.
Man Crush Monday flatware? :) Cool! I did order the 5oz when 'bngr bngr' said it was on Amazon and to my surprise it arrived on time - and though it will last a good while I'm used to the 10 oz size.
Hi Ikura! I have a set of Mardi Gras flatware with white handles. No one is sure if its bakelite or another type of plastic (nylon?). Do you know if I can use the method described in your video to clean Bakelite??? The white handles look dirty and I suspect could be a brighter white. Thanks so much!! Mary
If it's nylon I don't think Mothers Mag will work. Mothers works on hard plastics, not just bakelite. For example the avocado colored plastic on my blender, polished beautifully! My advice is to pick up some Mothers because it's a wonderful polish and give it a test. Or, test a small area on one piece with 800 grit sand paper. Soft plastic doesn't sand well at all. Maybe you don't need to sand? Wish I could help. I did look up Madi Gra flatware, they may be hard plastic most likely... Good luck!
@@xetaprime Thanks. Amazon is delivering me the Mothers Mag so I will try. Some of the dirt smudges I got off with Bar Keepers Friend. But will try the Mothers Mag too. If I cant get them looking good its okay - I just wont try to resell .
Recd and used the Mothers Mag - it definitely helped with the handles. It cut through all the built-up residue (guessing it was grime/dirt from hands and dishwasher). Beautiful shine. They look much better. I think I have a winner!
Mothers Mag is an aluminum polish. You can find it at Walmart in the auto section. Amazon or auto parts stores. It's awesome on old bakelite handles or any hard plastics such as the base of my vintage blender. Or the outside aluminum on vintage Farberware and Guardian Service.. I can't praise it enough! Sorry, I can't speak for Armor All as I've never used it.
I know for sure the 70s Farberware were rated to 425F. But honestly I wouldn't recommend it. Some were bakelite, there may be fumes and/or damage to the handle. Save metal handle pans for the oven :)
I have an older Revere Ware pot that I was looking up information on, it’s seems that the older Bakelite handles have asbestos in them and I’m concerned that you are showing how to sand them which can be very dangerous, if you know anymore info that I might not know on the validity of this please share ( or be careful!)
I've heard about that. If I was dry sanding and creating dust to inhale, I'd agree. We're wet sanding rather lightly, so no dust. No worse than washing these old pans by hand. But I'll pin a caution here.
Thanks! That's new. Last night Walmart said they had a 10oz. I ordered it and this morning they canceled the order. I think I will hold off for the 10oz for now. Or not... cool though.

I love your dedication to these pots and pans that people take for granted.
Thanks Tucker. Much appreciated :)
I just looked and found Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish at home depot, autozone, and walmart.
Amazing stuff! Good for so many things :)
Thanks for the refresher. I'm so glad that Mother's Mag is now easier to find since I need a lot more!

I see Mothers is back on Amazon. Whew! Also, I wanted to say I think this is the perfect thing for a lot of MCM flatware, too.

I've had my set since I furnished my first apartment over 20 years ago.
I'm honestly halfway between this and just replacing them.
Decisions decisions :)
Use barkeeper's friend on the pot, nothing abrasive on the shiny sides though. Use it inside also. It will make them look almost new again.

What substance is Mother's Mag? Could I use Armor All after sanding?

It'll be here tomorrow 👍
Thank you so much 😊

Okay, I think, that is a first for this channel :) Thanks!

Check ace hardware for mothers mag $8
I just called them. No dice. Amazon now says ships in 1 or 2 months! 3M makes some Mag polish. I don't know how it compares though.
@@xetaprime Amazon is now delivering by March 8.

The ace website says it has stock all over Jacksonville, FL same as Tampa, FL and Orlando, FL
Caved and ordered the 5 oz from Amazon. Fingers crossed. Supposed to arrive by weekend.

Some of the 10 oz are being price gouged! The 5 oz I ordered off Amazon seems more greasy to me but it may just be my paranoia :0
