    You 2 are such a delightful couple. My husband and I are in our mid/late 50s. He’s American and I’m French. We’re looking forward to retiring in France in 3-4 years, early retirement. Watching your videos makes me feel so envious. I wish I were there already. So glad that you enjoy Paris.

    When I lived in Paris I went to Versailles very often, just to walk around and spend half a day. We took sandwiches which we ate sitting in the window sills outside of the Salle des glaces, .over looking the gardens. Pleasant memories indeed.

    Thank you for mentioning the 9-10 unknown facts-at least they were to me. I visited with my son in 2011? So long ago it seems and the number of fountains and statues on the grounds as you’d mentioned is overwhelming -granted taking even a couple days to see everything wouldn’t be long enough. But as my first time in France it was so enjoyable and exciting. Do plan to see it again. Fingers crossed. 🤞

    Enjoyed Versailles with your commentary. Forty years to build? WOW! We have visited France 3 times (once for a month in 2014) but no visit to the Palace of Versailles. Love the overview of the grounds… so vast! The history of the animals on the property was fascinating… zoos and Vet schools asa result of this property! Thank you for sharing in your beautiful voice. Your sidekick (hi Tony) fun to see also. Fondue and soup a nice conclusion.

    • @kjandtonylovefrance
      @kjandtonylovefrance  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know about that. Not as many people in the garden (because it was literally freezing cold), but just as many people in the palace. I can't even imagine how packed it must be in season.

    • @GoGoChateau
      @GoGoChateau ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kjandtonylovefrance OMG it was packed solid and super hot in Sept. - the best hacks I learned were to 1) buy tickets in advance online, arrive before doors open then as soon as you walk in bolt to the Hall of Mirrors - most everyone else stops at the chapel and then follows in order. I was able to shoot virtually alone for 10 min ahead of the crowd then move to the apartments. 2) The English guided tour was inexpensive pretty small & helpful 3) the annual pass is cheaper if you are going to spend multiple days there 4) rent a golf cart to go to Trianon. Same thing, different day, get there early & you have the place to yourself as most people start at the Palace 5) the VIP fireworks package was not worth it. Too many people still in that class thinking they were going to get closer to performers etc. 6) If you can justify a splurge at Le Grand Controle ( I couldn't- but did pop in for super fancy tea service) - but they do private access evening tours of the Palace & you get your own golf cart - I think next time - or for a special occasion I will do it!

    Great video - thank you! I was told by my guide that after the French Revolution, a lot of the furniture at Versailles was sold to pay for the war debt. Therefore, at least when I was there in 2014, the palace had minimal furniture in each room. But the guide did say that the French government was in the process of trying to locate the purchased furniture and buy the pieces back. I missed Marie Antoinette’s private villa as it was too far away from the main palace and it wasn’t part of my tour. ☹️

    Another great video. I didn't know that "hot chocolate" secret. I hope you went to Angelina's Tea Room on the ground floor at Versaille. So appropriate that it is located there, now that the "hot chocolate secret" is known. Angelina's has the absolute world's best hot chocolate I have ever had (except for one place in the Latin Quarter in Paris). It's so thick, your spoon just about stands up straight, in the cup. If you're still in Versailles, it's worth the trip just for the hot chocolate. We had lunch (and of course, some hot chocolate) at Angelina's on our last trip to Versailles. If you've left Versailles, next time you're in Paris, there's an Angelina's there too, on Rue de Rivoli in the 1st.

      @KJ and Tony Move to France YES! I believe that's the one in Paris. Did you have the hot chocolate? I always keep a can of the powdered hot chocolate mix you can buy there (sometimes, if I run out, here in the US, I order it online and have it shipped from their NYC restaurant) and I add a heaping spoon of the powder to our morning coffees, for a little treat on the weekends, here in FL. Makes our coffee taste so rich and chocolatey. 😋

    If you get a chance visit Chateau Vaux-le-Vicompte in Maincy. A young finance minister named Nicolas Fouquet, built Vaux in 1661. He gave a lavish party and invited King Louis XIV to show off his new Chateau. The King was outraged that his finance minister had "showed up the King" by building such a lavish palace. The next day the King ordered his musketeers, led by D'Artagnan, to arrest Fouquet, put him in jail for life, where he eventually died. Louis XIV took the main architects of Vaux-le-Vicompte, Louis Le Vau, André Le Nôtre, and Charles Le Brun and built Versailles.
