Ed Thigpen is playing a genius rhythm in this tune. It would not be the same without him.
Unhuman... best performance of Master Peterson ever.
killer 'cow belle'!
At 3:35 until 3:44 the sincronism in octaves is incredible. Peterson was a fantastic pianist.
I first heard this version when I was 16 at a friend's house...I forgot to write down the name of the album. I since then looked for it in record shops that through the years became CD shops and later as an mp3 file. I found many different versions from Oscar and other artists, including the original ( much more cuban sounding) : as astonishing as it may seem this is the first time I am hearing it again after 40 years. I was right, this is the best version. It's light, it's tight, it's genius !! Made my day, my week, my month !
Junior Mance also has an excellent cover of this song if you’re more into the jazzier versions. There are so many upbeat Latin/cubano versions but I tend to go for the jazzier side where the keys lead 🎹 😊
good to see a fellow Zappa fan here
This is indeed a very nice version. Another one that I like a lot is by Barbara Dennerlein, played on a church organ.
The world’s greatest jazz pianist!
Agree
This performance blows my mind, truly. Oscar Peterson was such a genius. It’s no wonder André Watts admired him so much. (André was a beloved friend, and I miss him. I always think of him when I listen to Oscar Peterson because André shared my love of Peterson.😢❤)
His solo beginning with that F minor arpeggio... haunting. Upsetting that such a great piece of art has been viewed by so few.
Still so, no accountability for taste.
@@petrichor649 These guys get it.
The same for The Consouls and even Ron Carter's YT channels - brilliant music and far too few subscribers and views. I keep coming back to this tune but I don't think every subsequent view is counted - otherwise the count would be higher!
Just a wonderful pieace of music.... Magneficent! Magnefico! Just a MAGNET! You want to listen this on repeat.
My wonderful Oscar!!! Your music transports me to a world of my own! Love ya man!
Love & Thank-you Asando*
As Christopher Walken once said: "I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell." Actually everything Ed Thigpen plays on this tune is perfect--even the cowbell. What a beat!
This is sheer perfection and oozing with soul, good Lord!!!
The Lord IS good!
Over the top
Oscar was always happy and cool.
He made a piece of art out of this theme.
And a feast of colors.
I saw Oscar Peterson at the Blue Note in Chicago in 1951 and he made a believer out of me. There was something about a guy who was 6'3" and crowding 300 lbs playing on a Spinet, you would have thought that the venue would have provided a Baby Grande.
I was looking for this version after hearing it on a New York radio station
around 1976..thanks for uploading.."Lovin' it"
Oscar is the "Real" piano man..Oh yeah, Luvs me soulful Jazz Groove...Thanx Mr. Peterson
Love it ..
Hehe, I can see that you love it. You keep coming back!
According to pianist Peter Martin (played w/ Joshua Redman, Dianne Reeves and Roy Hargrove) approx. 3:04 is the literal definition of swing.
Just from listen you could tell they all were smiling while performing this! Swing on in Heaven!
these recordings in Germany were Oscar's best!! the quality and fidelity were wonderful
Yes, his Berlin 1985 concert was incomparable!
They were wonderful, particularly the recording with Waltzing is Hip. I believe that album was titled The Way I Really Play. The album I loved was Oscar Peterson with Sarah Vaughn titled How Long Has This Been Going On? My favorite cuts: Teach Me Tonight and I've Got The World On A String😍 Just fabulous!
@@2dasimmons I've Got the World on a String is wonderful. Oscar and Sarah play off of each other and they're marvelous!
Every song he plays becomes a masterpiece!
What a talent this Guy is, he can hold his own and then some, I so glad I found him to help me to play,
I don't think there's a single note wrong in the whole piece. Geniuses all three.
Master at work
gorgeous!!!!!
The guys who were disliked it - Are you nuts???
Thank you Horace for that universal Señor Blues latin funk groove.
Wow - always loved this tune - especially the Art Pepper rendition but this is something else. Is it just me or can I hear touches of Horace Silver's Senor Blues in there?
this song is really really good!
one of most favorite performance of oscer peterson!
so amazing!!
My fav man .
Addicted .
Would have given anything to see this band live...
My thoughts exactly! Once saw Jacques Loussier live, and have never forgotten the evening.
@BoniLiASam A true connaisseur!
Oscar's fingers start flying over the keys ever so lightly, bringing out the most beautiful harmonies, and building up the tension with each chorus, to then explode into hard driving swing.... This man is without peer...
My ears don't hear the same after listening this.
Dear Asando,
Great music....!!! However, I would like to give you the proper information regarding the Oscar Peterson Trio in this musical clip.
The bassist is Ray Brown and the drummer is Ed Thigpen.
(Not Sam Jones & Bobby Durham)
The album is titled 'ACTION'. Recorded in 1964 at the studio of Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer in Villingen, West Germany as Volume1 in the 'Exclusively for My Friends' series. And released in 1968 on the MPS Record label.
Kind musical regards,
Boni Li-A-Sam
Preternaturally metronomic. It would not be entertaining as a MIDI file, but knowing that it's a human being is truly wondrous, as with all his works.
Thanks a Lot💢✌️💢👌💢✋💢👉
What a GREAT DINOSAURIOUS🦕🦕🦕🦕🐳🐳🐳🐳🦎🦎
This is the Best, Oh Yes!!!!!
Thank you so much for this!
Superb 👌 the #piano play is on a different level WOW
Great !!! As always Peterson does !!!
Best piano jazz player ever !! I saw him live in Marciac a few years ago, he was an absolute genius !
He died like fifteen years ago.
The man made a keyboard talk.
ALWAYS PERFECT
COME ON, ARE YOU SEROUS WHO DISLIKED THIS???
WHOOOOOOOOO!!! WTF!! REALLY, REALLY OH COME ON!!!!
Tone deaf.... or insane !!!!
I have to admit Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin were great. Oscar Peterson is the absolute GOAT (Greatest Of All Time).
All I can say is ...WOW!!
Breathtaking
Super!
My computer caught fire around the 3:56 minute mark
+James Foster ..hehe--and I started to levitate at about 4:10
That's like a basic boogie
0 dislikes, finally people make some sense!
13 ): I think it's robots though, really.
❤️🙏🏼👏🏻small crowd
I love this song so much!! The only reason I know this song is because of my tap teacher Mr.Jumanne and we are going to do a Tap routine to this song!!
Tap dancing is always best to Jazz😍
great trio !
Each time I listen to this song I go: "Thank you Professor Peterson", because it sounds more like "Oscar Peterson's General Theory of Tin Tin Deo". This is one of the pieces that define jazz. The part that starts at 3:16 and ends at 4:20 is one of the best improvisations of jazz in general.
Jazzistan Amen. It should be titled Variations on Tin Tin Deo. It’s a clinic.
I agree, how he thought of of that ,we will never know.Stunning.
amazing rendition of a classic
Mama mia! This is ridiculous!! I have got to wonder. What did Dizzy Gillespie say when he heard this version of his song?
Love it.
The top!
Without doubt.
I LOVE that guy - and I'm not even gay ! !
I would be gay for Oscar.
There is no need to be gay or straight to love anyone
this fuming good trio..
Boss.
I love this theme (+ DizzyG)
Nice.....................................................
lol
You like?? Me Like...!!!
Jazz piano giant for sure.
Dizzy brought me here, Oscar made me stay.
James Hart nice
I honestly think listening to Oscar early in my life and hearing so many arpeggios in his playing made me better appreciate Rachmaninoff's music later in life. Oscar and Erroll Garner have to be, for me, the two most satisfying jazz pianists to listen to, even if maybe Art Tatum is technically the GOAT.
Mr. Peterson !
Nice!
Le top du top 😄
Estupenda interpretacion
Non credo ci sia mai stato un pianista jazz come lui , se vi piace il genere ascoltate Errol Gardner
Holy sh*t!!!
Dude can play piano...
bOM DIA A TODOS VAMOS A ESQUECER A BADERNA ESCUTEMOS BOM DIA A TODOS !!!ABRAÇOS !!!
la ultima vez qu estubo en san pablo estaba con al mano izquierda com problema, pero con la derecha le sobraba un bestia por siempre maravilloso!!!!

3:50 0h wow
He needed some congas in this song
2:15 .
what happens ?
non ha rivali, telonius errold scompaiono al suo cospetto
Hmm this tunes, not for Oscar Peterson’s Style. Dizzy Gillespie Sounds better on piano than Oscar Peterson on this. Sorry 😐
Pretty boring like a lot of the tunes Oscar covered. His virtuosity can't save it.
