Great video, I realy struggle with skies and clouds, you have explained your technique really well for beginners like me. thanks for all the time you devote to your TH-cam followrs
WOW I followed this tutorial and Bam, I’ve just painted some beautiful fluffy clouds for the very first time they actually look real and actually give REAL distance. Thank you so much for using your personal time to do this video. My problem seems to have been I didn’t know my brushes well enough to gain this effect. My large paint brushes bristles were too firm. I bought some very cheap white fluffy blending brushes from China, they look like the ones a policeman might use to dust for finger prints. But with a bit swearing ha-ha and after pulling out all the loose hairs in the brushes these actually give me fine control over where I move the paint. You have use these dry or almost dry, but yes they work very well for me. Especially on a small canvas. I was actually wanting to paint more and more clouds I was so excited that little old me got it at last. So If you are having problems out there, may be it’s not your understanding of thechnique that the problem, but the tool you are usin* to achieve that effect. Thank you again young sir.
You have me hooked ! I really enjoy painting along with your teaching videos. Your accent and easy learning keep me coming back for more. I can't wait for another painting raffle. I would be ignored to hang your paintings on my walls. Thank you so much.....Alliance, Ohio
My first viewing of your work…. Especially Loved the simplicity of using flow retardant to create an acrylic version of “wet on wet” blending technique for sky and clouds!
Ian Tks for being real., the first video I ever watched for better blending of acrylics had a formula that included a very very expensive white paint and retarder! I bought the stuff-for me, doesn’t work half as well as ur method so I appreciate the fact that u never try to sell or push products, and that ur total focus is teaching us abt painting! Needless to say, I don’t watch that guy anymore!
Thanks so much! Just learning to work with acrylics in the last few months, and picked up some retardant to work with because of getting frustrated with how quickly it dries! I am a blender by nature and this is such a huge help! Now I’m not afraid to try clouds or sky! You could say it really expanded my horizons!! 😂❤
What a great tutorial. I love watching you paint. You make clouds better than anyone out there. When I paint I find myself saying "wipe your brush" with an Aussie accent! Keep up the good work Ian. Its been too long between videos, and I've missed you 😀
OMG thanks so much for this video. I was thinking of teaching a wet-on-wet acrylics class locally, but I've never had enough success with retarder to be brave enough to try it. Now I think I'll be able to do it.
You really broke down the steps in this video and it seems very easy to follow. It's such a different technique with beautiful results. Maybe one day I will get brave enough to try it!
I have watched other videos you have done. Great info on the blending. Enjoyed the color choices, too.Just wish the audio was turned up a bit more and kept level. I had the sound on my phone maxed out and had to really concentrate or just gave up at times to hear you in this video. The visuals are terrific as well as the cat. ☺
great everytime I tune in I learn a new technique I found retarder here in Gatineau Québec Canada its from liquitex at Micheals art supplies for those who are in my side of the world May it be well with you Ianapolis !
I literally came here to see how to use a Acrylics retarder I just purchased. Tbh I never knew I would leave with so much information. I have a hard time with clouds and that made me think I should have bought a retarder much before. It makes us paint with just like the translucency oil leaves us with. Waves would def look incredibly soft. Please make a wave tutorial. Such a information video. Thank you so much
I really appreciate your tutorials. I can’t understand why anybody would want to say hateful things when they are getting so many helpful hints for beginners. I think we’re really lucky to have you and can find you on TH-cam I thank you and keep up the good work Maple Ridge, B.C, Canada
Hi, two questions: 1. If the retarder instructions suggest mixing with water, should that be done first? 2. Can white gesso be used for the first step? Great video, thank you.😷
Hi Ian, I bought some retarder, and I have some inexpensive white paint from Walmart. I'm a bit confused about "craft paint". Can I use this inexpensive white paint with retarder or do I need to find art store clerk to help me find this mysterious white craft paint. Sorry I need to ask this question. By the way, I put gesso on my canvas, is that ok for retarder? I'm really trying here💗👋
hi I have 76 years old I whant to lern haw to paint the tree I tray but is to difficult for me ,please help me.sorry I don't spesk to much inglish .I love all your painting.
A bit extra, even the boring stuff looks good in your hands. Everyone wants to get stuck into the exciting bits of painting but probably like most beginners, I spoil my stuff at this point. Because I simply haven’t take. The time to prep. And even practice new techniques before getting into real scenes. Then the end result is disappointing and your hard work wasted and your inflated ego much deflated. OK take a deep breath, slow right down, be very sensible, don’t believe in doubt, and start right over again.
Bravo, brother! Thank you for keeping us all sane n healthy in trying times of resisting tyranny: good on ya, mate!
Thank you I’ve learnt so much by watching the way you paint
I am going to try and do my skies and clouds this way. I love the way you show how to do it. Well done.
By far the most instructional video of yours I've seen to date. Thanks for this, it'll be of great help. Keep up the great work!
