- Sorry for the delay folks, things have been crazy with work and I couldn't get this released yesterday. So here is my top 10 magic items for a paladin, my favorite class in all of 5e. I've actually managed to obtain several of these in my campaigns, so I'm speaking from a point of experience. What do you think?
Top 10 Paladin Magic Items:
10. Belt of Giant Strength
9. Mount items (Horeshoes of Speed/Zephyr, Saddle of the Cavalier)

"Paladins don't have too many concentration spells"
Paladin spell list is literally 70% concentration spells
Totally would like more bonus action activities.
Ring of Spell Storing has the crazy benefit of being able to give Find Steed and Find Greater Steed to every character in the party. The spell effect is permanent when cast so everyone can have this on and cast it and then they can take their Pegasus from a demiplane to fly around when needed. If the steed dies they can have them back when you have some downtime for everyone to attune to the ring on their turn. And yes, 5 castings of shield is super good for paladin. Maybe 4 shields and 1 absorb elements. It really should be the nr 1 item for paladins as it can also double down on being the ranged option if needed.
It's really nice to also trade spells with other people. You give someone a steed that doesn't need to eat or poop or sleep. In that they can telepathically communicate with. And in return you could get something like find familiar.
My favorite class and a damn fine list. Thanks for not copping out and just putting the avenger at 1.
I mean, we all know it's number one on any paladins list, but its legendary and no legendaries was part of my list of rules.

Usually because some people are under the misconception that lawful good is lawful nice/stupid

@@francisstaines228 under the misconception that you have to be lawful good to begin with. Can have a neutral oath of conquest pally who wants to rule the continent as a benevolent dictator.
Or Oath of Ancients chaotic good goofball who just likes bringing laughter to people with puns while smiting undead. Ancients don't give a hoot about laws.
@@Byssbod what misconceptions, i made no statement that you had to be Lawful Good in 5E, and back in 3.5 E yes ALL PALADINS were Lawful Good as a prerequisite for taking levels in the class at all
I played a sword and board DEX based Paladin recently and found a Scimitar of Speed. It was an amazing addition. Extra attack as a bonus action (so 3/round after 5) and assuming they all hit, being able to go nuclear and smite three times in a round is awesome. Because that bonus action attack isn't tied to the Attack action (or require it), you can still Lay on Hands or Cure Wounds or whatever and still be able to get one attack/smite in on your turn.
Javelin of Lighting and Wand of Lightning bolts!! My go to choices. Plus I have a wand of magic missiles

In regards to your comment about Paladins not having too many concentration spells.
Paladins have a ton of concentration spells. All of their smites except for Divine Smite require it, all of the aura spells, Bless, Heroism, Shield of Faith, and most of the always prepared spells for each Oath are concentration.

Thezerowulf Shield of Faith is mine. Defense+Plate+ Plus 1 Shield+ Blade master Reaction for an additional 1+ Shield of Faith= 25 AC good luck hitting me

Started playing Paladin Oath of Heroism in a new campaign and the ring of spell storing was top of my list on wanted items. Would allow me to store my guiding bolt spells in it for ranged options and later store Haste.

As a sometimes dm, I would definitely allow a paladin to use the ring of spell storing to cast divine smite
I get the ring of spell storing for 1 reason I always get an high ac on my paladin so set it at 25 at minimum, having 5 of shield just makes it 30
For those who are liking this I have received a ring of spell storing about 4 to 6 sessions ago and is has single handedly kept me alive as a paladin

The ring of spell storing looks like a sling ring
moon-touched weapons are little more than fancy torches. But they are dirt cheap at 50gp/common , require no attunement and count as magical for the purpose of damage resistance. Easyest way to get a magic weapon
Did anybody notice that #4 in the timeline is listed as Museum Armor?

Two very useful items are a ring of feather fall and something that helps you breathe water. The reason for this is that falling and drowning are two of the easiest ways to die in most of the campaigns I have been in.

Spellguard Shield is nice, but I for one am a big fan of the Shield of Missile Attraction, yes its cursed but the passive ability to *force* projectiles meant for your allies to change their trajectory and target your much higher AC is invaluable, all it takes is a little coordination to work around it so friendly attacks don't make a beeline for you too... and the projectile resistance is also nice.
How do you avoid friendly fire with this shield of missile attraction?
@@MBusch By coordinating with your team, the effective range of the Missile Attraction is only roughly 10ft out. That's not very hard to work around if you know the effect is there.

Saddle of the cavalier is great, especially once you get a flying mount. I also wonder if magic armor like 1/2 or full plate +1 automatically can become barding for your Steed based on the DMGs note that magic items which are worm automatically adjust to the bearer.

Would you say the best way to get some of these items would be to find them amongst loot and treasure?

Depends on the DM for how to acquire them. My advice would be to ask your DM. "Hey I was looking through the DMG and I was thinking it would be cool to get X item for my paladin. Would it be possible to setup something like that for them?" Then maybe you can get quest hooks or be sent on missions or whatnot for them

Oooh that sounds really good, so pretty much just work with the DM to figure it all out then. I'm a very new player in a party of 7 and I've really been enjoying the couple of surprise items the DM has given us already (I found a +1 sword at level 2 and was given a Sentinel Shield at level 5). I talked to the DM and he basically told us he'll stock some shops we find with some cool items here and there but if we want something specific hes's happy to set up a quest or even let us commission a blacksmith/equivalent for an item.

This video was most likely released before Tashas but great item that was added there is Amulet of Devout. Only item out there that gives you another use of channel divinity per day as well as increase your spell DC. Some Paladin oaths have really good Channel divinity options like Oath of Conquest so that is one of best items.
There's also Devotee's Censer and the Guardian Emblem which would have also made this list
Imagining you have a Cleric 1/Bard X, would the cleric dip allow you to use the Necklace of Prayer Beads?

Which of the belts would you prioritize if given the choice between Dwarvenkind or frost giant strength?
@Tyler Ford even then, id still say Giant Strength, Paladins are one of the few classes that are meant to be good at 3 different stats (Str, Con and Cha) to completely remove the worry of one of those stats could let the player play however they want but at the same time encourages Min Maxers, as if the Paladin class didnt already do that

I'm definitely okay with the items and such sitting to the top left of the screen, but would prefer it being a little higher up. Maybe another half inch or so, that way it doesn't obscure your face.
Well i like oathbreaker paladins cause they get a spell which essentially has infinite range on level 3, makes number 8 not that necessary
Paladin may not be my favorite class, but it's definitely up there.

I know that a lot of people say "you should gauge the prices of your items based on your world or the part of the world you are in where magic items vary in availability" or "calculate it based on rarity" but is there a quick reference for perhaps what one would consider the base price of magical items?
Closest thing I'd say is the "buying magic items" section of Xanathar's Guide. If you take the low end and high end of the roll, it should help. Something like 100-600 for an uncommon item for example. I use that as a gauge and then adjust accordingly

Also like the Amulet of Health as it is only rare you are more likely to get it. In general I dislike the set to stat items though. Mainly because your attribute increases then feel wasted if you get one of those items later.

It's pretty good as a starting point however the character start at level 3 as opposed to level 1.

@@NerdImmersion ok thanks! I mostly bought it because I love The Demogorgon from Stranger Things, so I couldn't just pass it up. I also bought it because you got it.
@@NerdImmersion I didn't know that, but it makes sense. starting at level 3 for first timers is probably ideal. It gives decent hp so you don't go down from one mistake or crit, but the abilities and choices are still limited.
Level 1 is dnd hard mode, and not super newbie friendly.

Shield of Missile Attraction. It Shields everyone nearby.
Can a druid equip that saddle under #9?

@@codypatton2859 I know wild shape can integrate or conceal your humanoid equipment I was wondering if the inversion was true. Are there limits to what you can shape/polymorph into, and be sporting that saddle and similar gear?
I just grabbed magic initiate warlock just to get Eldritch blast 120 ft range plus 1 free hellish rebuke per long rest
Alternatively you could just multiclass warlock. If you are already giving up an ABI you might as well go hexblade 2. You get the same 2 cantrips, two more first level spells from the warlock list than what magic initiate gives and 4 more free spells with your pact, 2 eldritch invocations (stronger eldritch blast, increasing EB's range to 300 ft, 120 foot darkvision, free speak with animals, understand all writing, turn any willing creature into a find familiar spell, free disguise self, free detect magic) you can choose to use charisma on attack rolls instead of strength or dex, meaning strength can be a dumpstat too (after 13 for multiclass), you get access to curse as a bonus action, and lastly you can use your two warlock spell slots on divine smites.

@@armoduesgrimlock7677 worth mentioning. Some of the better invocations only require character level, so if you pick warlock lvl 2 when you hit total character lvl 7-8, you can get invocationts that let you cast ones per day freedom of movement for free or ones per day, using your warlock spellslot (which is fine bing lvl 1), a Polimorph. Some invocations are amazing.
Not an item, but I took blessed fighter fighting style and it gave me 2 cantrips from cleric which I took toll the dead and sacred flame as it gave me great ranged options and gives me the ability before I got my +1 longsword to actually take out some of the monsters we fought without smiting 😂
For ranged attacks I like to use darts. They use strength instead of dexterity.
So do javelins, handaxes, etc. and they do more damage than darts
blessed warrior fighting style, then toll of the dead. damage levels, and works fairly well if you have a decent save dc.
I love the sword of sharpness

What? You say you don't play a Dwarf? Well, everyone knows Dwarven Paladins are the best!!!
I jest of course, but one must admit it solves the Paladin lack of ranged attacks problem.
My dragonborn paladin just found a couple pairs of rusted Dwarven Plate armor, which he promptly grabbed. The next session we went shopping and the DM totally forgot about it. Got a smith to agree to fix them up and fit my dragonborn's size. Got love for the dwarves after that, it's some sexy armor.
im actualy looking for a 3rd item for my level 20 paladin, she already had 30 charisma, 25 strength and 26 con and like holy avenger and and cloak of displacement, i dont know what else to get she has a ranged spell too and teleportation. Im still looking for an item to get. Its weird having such a high level pc
How do you have 30 charisma and 26 con? 25 strength makes sense because of a belt but those other two stats should not be anywhere near as godly; unless you got beneficial buffs and boons constantly somehow...to which, that is nuts and your DM really is aiming to make your players gods.

I know this is an old video, but can anyone help me on even findin such items in the world, I know I could ask my dm and set a goal but I feel that's metagaming and stumbling accros them obviouisly is next to impossible
In my first campaign (and one other subsequent campaign) I took so long trying to chose items when we shopped i ended up just writing a list out for my DM of item my PC would be interested in and he yold me if/ when i came across them. This is something I will introduce to my campaigns when i start DMing properly.
Get Ring of Spell Storing as Paladin. fill it with Thunderus Smite.
i like Paladin but i hate how they are shoue Horned in to being a Melee DPS in dnd. i like Pathfinders Paladin which can do eveything except being a spell caster (allthough i play Paladin as a spell caster anyways). i actualy realy enjoy Ranged Paladin in 5e

But the smites all require a melee attack to activate. By RAW, ranged smiting is not possible.

Necklace of Prayer Beads is a good example that Paladins really should be Wisdom casters - not Charisma.

Scimitar of speed. Yes, it's good for every martial class. But its Good for every martial class. ...except the monk really.
Believe scimitar is included in monk weapons, also I think damage will increase as the monk does

Although you say Paladin is your favorite 5e class, that seems to have hurt this video. You wanted to say too much and made the entire thing too vague unlike the other classes lists.
Honestly, that may just be because Paladins basically have everything they need built-in. For instance, a magic weapon might have ranked higher if Paladins weren't able to make their attacks magical anyway.
I had done something similar for the barbarian, stating "a magic weapon", I gave an option of the spell guard shield. I believe I stated mizzium armor for magic armor, while there are a lot of options for each, this could go a lot of different ways. A magic weapon isn't even that necessary cause smite damage is radiant, and will overcome most resistances anyway

As a DM I would not allow a player to put magic horseshoes on a horse conjured by a spell.
Why not? The horse isn't ethereal, it exists in the world and is able to interact with the world around it. Why wouldn't it be able to have horseshoes?
@@NerdImmersion I never interpreted the spell to mean the spell creates an actual mount because of the wording "assumes the form of" also I would assume the stead appears with horseshoes. That being said you do have me rethinking my position since the spell does also say it has the statistics of the chosen mount which implies that it is an actual physical mount. Just seems odd changing horseshoes on a horse you conjured with a spell LOL.
The list is somewhat generic, except for a few items that are restrictive like prayer beads.
Those are good items but realy boaring minmax choices
